I have been there couple of times on a weekend lazing sipping teh tarik after my massage at nearby Wayan Retreat.

My husband happened to be friends with the owner and hence we always get good service :)

I love their nasi goreng ikan bilis.. Really good and I always request mine to be super duper spicy. It's basically simple fried rice with egg topped with fried crunchy ikan bilis/anchovies and sunny side up.

You should also try their kacang pool - a dish where the beans are soaked and cooked well into a gravy topped with sunny side up and to be eaten with toasted french loaf. Its a special dish which cant be found widely in Singapore.

They also serve Malay traditional desserts for tea.

Parking can be difficult here - you can park along the roadside if you are lucky. Otherwise, there are one or two public carpark two blocks away.

Nasi padang - Malay's staple food. Even before you reach the outlet at Jalan Pisang, you can probably smell the goodness of their spread.

They have an excellent variety of traditional Malay food from fish (either bakar or grilled, fried, gravy type), rendang, curry, sambal goreng, vegetable (raw or cooked), prawns, squids, eggs... I nearly salivated while writing this.. hahah..

Top on my list has always been:
      a) sambal goreng (mixture of tahu, tempeh, beans)
      b) Bargedil (potato mashed into balls)
      c) Ikan bakar (grilled fish which comes with their sambal belacan)
      d) Ulam (raw vege with fried coconut)
      e) Asam pedas
      f) Prawn sambal

A hearty meal of two will probably reach less than 15 bucks and we are talking about real hearty where you can barely move after eating!

There's always a long queue especially lunch hour; even on weekends. SO suggest, you come slightly early than 12 to get a good table.

If you like a taste of Malay traditional food, this is a place to go!

My favourite Ayam Penyet restaurant. So far, I have tried couple in Lucky Plaza, but this restaurant in Marine Parade is still the best.

Their chicken is huge with crunchy batter, tempeh, tahu and cabbage. Delicious, really.

What i like most besides the chicken is their signature sambal! SUper duper spicy and hot. I likee.... For those who cant take hot stuff, you can opt for sambal which is not so hot. Jus ask the waiter and they will get it for you.

Their sup buntut (ox tail soup) - meat is huge and tender that comes with carrot and potato. You can share this soup with frens.

They also serve Teh Sosro, Indonesia famous teh that is served in bottle.. :)

If you buy take away, the dish will come in a box (not plastic tupperware) that can be heated in microwave. Less hassle.

I have been there upteen number of times. I like their service and their food. Will continue to patronise this place.

          14. Resto Surabaya

Had dinner there yesterday. Tried their famous Ayam Penyet which is basically Chicken (thigh or breast) which has been marinated with their special spices and fried. The Ayam Penyet comes either fried or grilled. I tried their fried version.

The dish came with of cos the chicken, tempeh and tahu and cucumber and famous sambal belacan. Their sambal is not as spicy as another joint called Waroeng Penyet. And their portion is pretty small compared to Waroeng Penyet. Their tahu is not fresh and soft.

As usual I ordered Sup Buntut (Ox tail soup) for my daughter. Again, I was disappointed cos their portion for the soup is also small and their meat is not as tender :(

We ordered Tahu telur - its basically tahu and egg fried dish. NOt bad, you should try this. Can share with your friends.

In terms of hte price which is pretty similar to Waroeng Penyet, I dont see value for money. I would prefer to go to Waroeng Penyet than to Resto Surabaya in future.

Escargots   Fresh Oysters   Main course - Fried Dory Fish Fillet
Had lunch there today with group of girlfrens from my previous company. All of us had the Executive Lunch set meal which comes with soup of the day, main course, dessert and coffee. They have specific specials for every day of the week and also a couple of main courses which are available everyday of the week.

We all with the same preference settled for Fried Dory Fish! The fish is great. :) The meal cost 11.70 per person

Our soup of the day was cream of mushroom soup and garlic bread. I love their garlic bread - soft!

            We ordered starters:
            a) fresh oysters but it was a let down cos its not juicy and plump.
            b) escargots with garlic - was ok. But I have tasted better ones elsewhere.

Deserts are fruit cocktail with nata de coco. Better than cocktail jelly.

If you like juices, there is a promotion "buy one get one free" which costs $3.

They have recently renovated their restaurant giving it a different ambience. It used to exude homely feeling with dim lights. Now, its bigger (Guess the way they arranged the tables/ chairs) and rather bright.

Food is fair.. may go back but not often.
