This golf course in Hua Hin is very new. Trees are young. You will see a huge club house upon arrival, really huge. Serve very good local foods and have extensive drinks listing. Locker room has nice settnig and good amenities.
The course is long at 6502 yard from blue tee. Course design is very challenging and greens are super fast. If you chip in at the wrong angle or putt the wrong line, you may be out of the green or long way to be back close to the hole.
The course provide each golfer a full color booklet, with each hole layout nicely shown, distant to harzards cearly indicated, from the fairway, you can calculate easily the distant needed to the pin.
I must said this is a thinking course, it will be extremely challenging when the course is mature with all trees and plants are grown up.
This course is currently schedule for next year's Asia PGA in March 2008. I am sure the condidtion will be even more challenging. Test your skills now to play at the Black Mountain.
A relatively mature golf course. About 1.5 hours from Pudong Shangri-la. Course designer is Peter Thomson. Its a venue for a few important regional PGA events, including the Johnnie Walker, Volvo Open, etc. Many sand bunkers, especially located to trap your tee-shot (white tee if you can't drive 200m on average). Then many of them guarding the greens. Basic course design is not that difficult actually. For the travelling time required, its not worth going there a second time.
This golf course is about 1 year old and nearly 1 hour from Pudong Shangril-la Hotel. All tress and plants are small and young. However very nice fairways and greens are super fast. You will not enjoy the same as a mature golf course but the basic course design and the quality is excellent. Huge and grand club house with many facilities. The location is actually nearby the seaside and should have more golfers during weekends. Fees include free lunch which is the first I expereinced in China. There are housing development within the compound and some of them are really huge. Membership fees is US$80K for 2 players.
This is a golf course within a residential development. The houses are now in its 8th phase of development. Course designer is Shursuke Kato. Recently hosted the China BMW Open. Basically a challenging course and was recommended by freinds that the course was in excellent condition right after the BMW Open. However I played this week and the course is undergoing some maintenance jobs and it was a bit of dissapoinment. Club house facilities are limited but well designed and looks good. The caddies actually required to hold your score card after the game and submit for record. If you play above 100, you are not allowed to play during weekends. The location is very near to the Shanghai city and is about 20min away from Pudong Shangri-la. One of the closest golf course in Shanghai.
Hilton Hotels has the royalty program that depends on the number of nights and $ you spent. Although other hotel groups have similar program, i find the Hilton one very good. It's so easy to redeem for free nights and each country offers some slightly different gifts for redemption that are unique to the country. I rate them the best in the industry just like PPS (SQ) in the airlines royalty program.
