I've been to the Toastbox at Vivocity once, and it also happens to be the first time i actually tried the food.

My friend dragged me here, and she ordered the 'mee siam', claiming that it was one-of-a-kind and its their specialty.

I however, ordered one of the bread with a set (coffee or tea, with 2 half boiled eggs).

We got the drinks first, while the rest of the food came a few minutes after.

The mee-siam was really good (though i eat mee-siam only once every year or so, not a big fan), and i would definitely not mind eating it again.

Strangely enough (or maybe not), my eggs came first and i'm disappointed to say that they were kind of cold. That put quite a damper on things as i thought this was the simplest thing to do. Ah well.

The bread came next. Basically its a really thick toast sliced into 9 pieces, with generous servings of (insert ingredient chosen here). From peanut better to otah, there are a total of 4-5 flavours for you to choose.

The bread was crispy, and the peanut butter was just nice. Be careful not to order too much though, bread is pretty filling stuff.

The drinks were normal enough so there's nothing much to comment, same with the service.

Nice place to eat if you're in the mood for bread or mee siam~ And i believe the prices are cheaper than Ya Kun, so its all worth it~

This place looks really nice, and its located on the 2nd floor of Jurongpoint.

Its been open for quite a few months now, though it was only a while back that i tried one of their crepes.

Did i mention that this place looks nice and colourful? They have a listing of all their crepes, and some 'real' samples on display.
If i could use a few words to describe them, it would be 'colourful', 'bright' and 'happy'.

There are many many types of crepes to choose from, from the normal 'meaty' ones to dessert crepes.

Unlike fellow yebber Great Sage, i did manage to see how they made the crepe. They just poured some sauce, evened it out on the pan and flipped it less than a minute later, and there you have it, a crepe!

Another lady would then add your chosen ingredients into the crepe, and voila! Crepe for you sir?

The only drawback is the crepes are pretty small, and at prices from $4.50-$7, its a really expensive dessert.

There are no seating areas for you as well, so you're stuck on eating it as you walk, and i finished it in a few minutes.

I must say, the anticipation must be worth more than the tasting itself, cause it didn't strike me as anything more than normal.

Its worth a try, if you feel like you have a few bucks to burn and happen to walk by Jurongpoint :)

I like Ben & Jerry's ice cream in general, but i won't be touching on the ice cream since it tastes pretty much the same everywhere.

This particular outlet at Suntec City is really small, and i would guess it can seat at most 20 people, if they're close to each other that is.

Anyone else notice that most B&J places are small?

The staff here aren't particularly friendly, and it takes a bit of time before the tables are wiped (sometimes it still feels a bit sticky after wiping.. bleh).

But all in all, its a good place if you want to finish off some ice-cream, bad place to stay for long. If you're opting for the latter, try coffeebean or starbucks instead.

      4. Island Creamery
         09 Apr 2008 at 9:20 am
Island Creamery is a nice place to go and chill, especially on a lazy afternoon or weekend when you've got nothing to do, and just feel like eating some ice-cream.

The ice-cream really isn't too bad, and they've got some original flavours like Nutella, ReversO, Burnt Caramel and Teh Tarik.

Some of these ice-cream are really sweet though, and just be prepared to drink lots of water.

One thing i like about this place is their friendly staff. With a smile on their face and prompt service, this place is quite a hit with students~

Another thing of note is the walls, if you haven't already noticed, they're filled with pictures of past customers, most of them in a group (though some are in pairs) in various poses inside the restaurant itself.

A good place to leave memories by, who knows, you may see your picture still there after a year or two :)

Overall, i like the ambiance and cosyness of this place, and there's ice-cream and friendly staff to boot! Perhaps that's the charm of this place, though i would say the ice-cream may be a bit over-rated~

Fish & Chips   You crazy what?!
Ah Botak Jones, the place i go when i have a craving for western food.

The nearest one for me (i'm living in Jurong), is Clementi, so i frequent this outlet alot.

Need i explain about Botak Jones? They're basically a western food stall, which can be found in coffeeshops with well, coffeeshop prices.

They don't have GST or service charge, and their portions are pretty big.

They offer a variety of food types from giant sausages, lamb chops, chicken, to your traditional fish & chips, wings and so forth.

As I mentioned before, i've eaten Botak Jones so many times i've lost count, yet i still have to comment on my favourite dishes.

        1) Swanky Franky - Your choice of a chicken or beef giant hot dog, wrapped up in cheese and bacon in a sausage bun with tomatoes and onions, and comes with fries as well. This dish costs $10 and comes as a set only, but everyone whom i recommended this to can either never finish their food, or finish it with a grin on their faces! 2 thumbs up for this!

        2) Botak Burger - A burger with beef patty and fries if you order the set. The specialty is that you can have up to 3 patties (its called the you-crazy-what), and there are quite a number of add-ons you can have in the burger, like shitake mushroom, cheese, bacon, egg, and so forth.

Personally, i tried the you-crazy-what 'challenge' and i couldn't finish it Its just too overwhelming! Too much beef!

        3) Fish & Chips - For the person who doesn't think he/she can eat too much, a small fish & chips is enough to fill you up. Their tartar sauce is really great, and their serving is more than adequate. $5.50 (i think)for small (2 big pieces of fish), and $9.50 (pretty sure)for another piece of fish. This beats Long John's Silver's anytime!

One sad thing about Botak Jones is that wastages can often be seen, and that's why they've reduced the fries portion to half of what they used to give. Worry not however, for you can always request for the 'original' portion.

If you're coming here in a large group, do come earlier to book seats. This place gets really crowded on lunch and dinner times, and not to mention weekends too.

If you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for?
