I have opened bank accounts with different banks and other UOB branches. But the bank officer here really asked some weird questions.
As the main branch of course it looked large and impressive. When I entered, I looked about for directions for account opening, and a officer promptly came to assist me. She was polite and I was asked to take a seat in the seating area which also has a TV.
I didn't have to wait long for my turn.
The officer was polite but she was a little too nosey. Some irrelevant questions she asked was why I wanted to open a saving account. I replied for saving. After doing some paperwork and registration, she looked at the bank draft that I used for account opening. She noted that it was a foreign bank and asked if I had an account with that bank. I said no and added that it was given to me by somebody else. And she asked me if that person was a citizen of that country. I don't think such questions were really necessary as when I opened accounts elsewhere the officers rarely asked such questions.
On a more positive note, she was thoughtful enough to write down the direction for ibanking activation.
