This place is a little tricky to find. Say... if you are coming from the direction of Katong Mall, cross the road (towards the Mary tau gua bao) and follow the traffic flow. It is a few shops down. For those who know where is Astons Prime, Obolo is right opposite.

Nice little cheesecakes and entremets displayed in this small shop well hidden by the sidelane. The look of them made me wanna try them all! We selected four different flavours and shared among ourselves.

    - Noisette
Dark chocolate mousse, caramelised toasted hazelnuts, crunchy praline feullitine, chocolate genoise enrobed in a shiny chocolate glacage

Its gloss attracted me and my other friend. As told by the SA this piece was rich in flavour and those people without sweet tooth may not like it. Suprisingly it wasnt as sweet as we though, and the mousse was smooth... hhhmmm....

    - Blueberry
Luscious baked cheesecake topped with blueberry fruit filling on a fragrant biscuit crust

    - Strawberries n' cream
A refreshing & silky-smooth cheesecake infused with pureed strawberries baked on a fragrant biscuit crust

I love these! You know, some cheesecakes made you feel 'jelak' after eating a few mouths but these 2 i could finish them up by myself (if only my friends are not eating too :P)!

    - Mango passion
Mango and passionfruit-infused baked cheesecake on a biscuit crust

Did not get to try this out though. I concentrated to attack the rest :D

black pepper chicken + bbq beans / potato salad
Been working in katong for months and yesterday was our first visit to Astons. Heard alot of good reviews from other of our colleagues and decided to give our bday girl a treat at this western food restaurant.

We went there earlier to avoid the lunch crowd but still it was 3/4 filled and did not have seats to cater for 7 of us. We were split up and at the instance the table beside us was available they shifted us together (GOOD!) Menu was a simple 1-piece laminated paper with choices like chicken, beef, lamp chop, fish and pork. They also serve spaghetti. Hot and cold side dishes to pamper yourself... You can choose 2 side dishes when ordering meat and 1 side dish for spaghetti.

    - Black pepper chicken potato salad & baked beans ($5.90)
Fantastic! I am on braces so i cant chew on tough meat but this chicken is tender and juicy, when served i could smell the aroma of the black pepper sauce. Spicyness was just right, a tinge of pepper tase without overpowering the taste of the sauce.

I love baked beans, and i super love the one at Astons! It did not taste like those out from the can, instead it has a slight becon taste. The potato used in the potato salad was 'crunchy' and the dressing which went with it is a tad sour, made a good appetizer :)

Long awaited continuation... haha! Many people giving positive reviews on this restaurant and it live up to its reputation.

2nd visit to this place, i chose:
Fish with herb sauce potato salad / bbq beans (yea, same side dish again... haha!)
I am very particular on fish, one tinge of that 'muddy' or 'stinky' or 'fishy' taste (whatever you call that) I will leave the rest untouched. The fish in Astons is simply marvellous! I enjoyed every mouthful of the fresh and smooth dory. The sauce will be perfect if it is thicker, the serving i had was too watery but that was fine, considered i am paying a normal hawker centre price to a restaurant standard :D

    8. Phase Hairdressing

    Category: Hair Salons
I was a regular in Phase Hairdressing when it started out in Tampines and now with its expansion and convenient location, I am sure it will benefit many regular clients with is much larger area.

The salon is opposite Bugis Junction, in fact it is very close to the bus stop when you alight to cross over to BJ. I was sitted at the side, by the glass wall. At first i felt awkward coz it seemed i was been showcased to the public. But as time went, i enjoyed the view and could people watch to past time.

The salon was brightly lited with red seats and feet rest. The washing hair area was 'one level up' and you would enter a different world. Over there the seats were black and with the dim lights, i almost fell asleep when the stylist was doing light massage for me. One great thing of the bench was that there is this extension for short legged (like me) so you are practically lying down while your hair is being washed. I love this idea :)

Ivy was my stylist all the time but she was in Tampines that day, I opt for whichever stylist available. Steven served me with smiles. He was attentive and tried to break the ice by making small talks. I was still receovering from my flu attack and was coughing every now and then. He was nice enough to request hot water for me. Personal touch isnt it.

My total wallet damage is $183. Which includes the following: -
    - color (shoulder length)
    - highlight
    - protein treatment
    - color saver (helps in making the color stay longer)
    - hair cut wash

Overall my experience in Phase was a very pleasant one and i will not hesitate to revisit the place when i need a fresh look again.

The canteen which Botak Jones (toa payoh) is located   Botak Chez set   Cajun Chix   Beef Hotdog
it was a blessing in disguise. I was surfing its website trying to find out the address of the AMK branch and it said they are relocating to another block. Scolled down alittle further and realised, hey! There was one in toa payoh! So much convenient for me and my SO as he stayed in toa payoh.

The place was in a 'canteen' of the JTC light industrial estate. Though a sunday, you can see a crowd going there for their lunch. The high ceiling canteen was airy, no problem for not being an aircon place :) Okay, Botak Jones is the fourth stall from the front, you will not miss its signature blue signage. Place your order with the cashier, tell her where will you be sitting, sit back and wait for your order to arrive. Pay only when all your food was served.

Botak Chez Set ($8) - This is a burger set that comes with 1" thick of beef patty topped with cheese, coleslaw and fries. The fries was served hot and crispy, and coated with a thin layer of chilli powder. i love it! Beef patty was soft and easy to chew, good for my braced teeth.

Cajun Chix ($7.50) - Served with coleslaw and fries, the cajun chix was a little disappointment. Meat was dry to our liking.

Beef hotdog ($6) - Though it said beef, i felt i was eating pork. Hmm... Nevertheless, the hotdog was tasty with the mustard on top. It was served with lotsa onions and veges. Good for the health concieous

They have actually reduced the fries portion (a notice at the cashier point stated) but you can request for the larger portion at no additional charge. I would advise not to go for it as the normal portion can fill you to the brim :)

Photos will be added later tonite.

A nice eating place, overlooking Sentosa and PSA. While waiting for our food to be served, we got a good view to enjoy and the waiting time didnt seem that long afterall. Its service is definitely better than usual Swensens outlets, and the seatings are well spaced out, so diners would not feel cramped or 'invaded'. The salad bar was placed in the middle of the restaurant, hence it is convenient for all diners (unless you are seated near to the entrance).

Soup of the day: Ours was the garlic soup. The squarish white bowl was on this long white plate with 3 slices of bread neatly laid against one another. The visual effect was pretty good. Soup was served warm and you could see little sprinkles of garlic on top. The aroma of the garlic made you wanna finish the soup at one go, but we managed to refrain ourselves and slowly savour its flavour.

Fried chicken (main course): The serving was kinda small for its price ($18.90). But the chicken was fried to perfection, not oily and the meat is tender and juicy. It served with fries, and suprisingly, (though cold) the fries were still crispy after abt 1/2hr later. Thumbs up!

Salad bar: Attractive palette of greens and orange and yellow and many others. It may look simple but you can be filled up by juz going for its salad bar buffet. They have staple food like the egg noodles and thai glass noodles (on the day we went). Of coz, with healthy greens which you can dress them up with over 5 different salad dressings. The salad bar is $10.80 per person, but comes free if you order main course. (1-for-1).

We would not hesitate to visit Earle Swensen again.
