Jing is the second joint venture of Chef Yong Bing Ngen (Majestic Restaurant) and and Loh Lik Peng (Hotel 1929, New Majestic Hotel). It serves contemporary Chinese cuisine using top internationally sourced seasonal ingredients, in a rarified atmosphere.

A dim sum selection is offered for weekday lunch, with a wider range offered for weekends.

Heard that this place serves weekend ala carte brunch buffet but we are not able to make reservations as it seem to be fully booked most of the times.

We managed to secure a table on a weekday dinner and surprisingly there were only a few diners. When we flipped through the menu, we have difficulty in deciding what to order as the menu do not classify under general headings like meat, vegetables, soups, etc. But credit must be given to them for their brief description of each dish so that diners will know what they are expecting.

We only ordered two dishes : a. Homemade Tofu ( Beancurd ) with Scallops & Bacon ( $28 ) The pan-fried tofu has soft silky texture and were well soaked in the sweet and sour spicy sauce. Big pieces of cut scallops and few strips of bacon enhanced the unique flavour of this dish.

    b. Stirred Fried Beef Cubes with Mushrooms ( $37 ) Though the name sounded ordinary, we decide to try as most beef are either fried in garlic, black pepper sauce or spicy ( sambal ) sauce. We were very impressed when we took the first bite of the chunky beef cubes. Each cube was well cooked on the outside but juicy inside. As the beef seem to be sprinkled with salt and pepper only, we get to taste the freshness as we chewed happily. The mushrooms played a complimentary role as the smooth and crunchy taste of it goes well with the rice.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the alfresco dining ambience coupled with nearby Marina Sands displaying their colourful laser lights shows

Another weekend, another Sunday brunch. But its the first time I'm having Chinese ala carte buffet for brunch and expectations were relatively high as Jing @ One Fullerton is under the same management as Majestic Restaurant, which has won top accolades for its Chinese food.

      Ambience

Typical modern Chinese restaurant but what sets it apart is the huge glass windows that allow plenty of sunlight in as well as views of the partially constructed IR just across the river. The booth seats look comfortable for a party of 3 or 4 but unfortunately we were relegated to the center tables. There is the problem of weak air conditioning too.

      Variety

You get about 20 odd different types of dim sum , a tiny self service buffet station with duck, fruits and minimal desserts and the standard 4-5 items each of seafood, meat, vegetables, rice, noodles and the likes. There are certain restrictions on certain items. Ie. you get to choose 1 serving of either Chilli Crab or Soon Hock and soups are limited to 2 servings per table. If you are keen on the more premium items like boston lobster or shark's fin soup, be prepared to top up at least $10++ to $18++ more per pax for 1 portion. Drinks are chargable and the only things that are free flow are the Chinese tea and sky juice.

      Quality

The quality is merely average in my humble opinion. Nothing quite stands out but nothing really sucked terribly either. If I had to choose, the best dish would probably be the crispy duck from the carving station. All in all, the dishes were palatable but honestly, don't expect too much. Think Crystal Jade La Mian XLB standard.

      Service

Average service from wait staff that didn't seem very keen on serving. When I called to make a reservation, the lady on the other end of the phone wasn't particularly friendly either. No big boo boos but could be a lot better.

      Value for money

At $36++/pax ($42.40 nett), I honestly thought that it was a little over the top. Food quality was generally average, the spread not exactly the most extensive and service, forgettable. I fail to see how Jing could have made a name for itself with such standards.

      See all my pictures here.

I think by now many people know about Jing's weekend brunch (S$36 per person, S$18 per child, see full menu here). It was nearly full when we made our reservations (we got the second last table) on Sunday. It's a really generous menu (inclusive of Chinese green or jasmine tea), and made us wonder how they manage to eke out any profits. Nonetheless, the brunch is a lovely way for the whole family to sample Chef Yong Bing Ngen's culinary prowess without breaking the bank. They even have special items for kids.

Highlights include * chili crab (single serving) * steamed chilean seabass with preserved mustard leaves (mei cai) * sweet and sour pork * lovely fluffy char siew baos * delicious flaky mini egg tarts

I can only upload five photos here, whereas I have nearly 30 at my blog. Feel free to check it out.

Service was a bit harried, as the restaurant was filled to capacity. Chef Yong himself popped out of the kitchen several times to speak with customers. That was a nice touch.
