Description
Richard Armstrong, conductor Chloë Hanslip, violin
ELGAR Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61 (48’) intermission R.STRAUSS Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 (33’)
“I have written out my soul in the concerto…” Elgar said in 1912, of the work that he composed – at the height of the fame – at the behest of famed violinist Fritz Kreisler. In this last subscription concert of the season, Chloë Hanslip takes on this passionate, gorgeous work which has become one of his best-loved compositions. Also Sprach Zarathustra has become possibly Strauss’ most popular tone poem, thanks in part to its having been featured in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
