HERITAGE IN THE WRITING
Book Launch: Heritage Hawker, a commemorative book Chamber | THU 18 JULY | 5PM
Over the past two years, Sinma DaShow and his documentary team have visited every hawker centre in Singapore to interview and document the life and work of the people they call “Singapore’s true local street food heroes” – the generation of hawkers that Singaporeans have fondly grown up with. This book is the culmination of their efforts.
Come and hear from the team on how they tracked down these hawkers and the many stories they elicited from them. Some heritage hawkers and their children will also be present at the launch. For more information, please visit The Arts House site.
NINE HUNDRED DAYS(九百天的人事物): HERITAGE HAWKER AUDITORY ART INSTALLATION AND EXHIBITION
Foyer and Film Gallery | Wed , 10 Jul – wed , 31 Jul | 10AM–10PM
Featuring artefacts and audio recordings from the Heritage Hawker book project, this installation and exhibition will focus on the vanishing craft of hand-made hawker food as a celebration of who we are, and how we eat and socialise as Singaporeans. It is also a tribute to the resilience and contributions of a generation of street food vendors to our culture.
The auditory art installation Of A Trillion Bites (心在听) features rare first-hand accounts from Singapore’s beloved hawkers about their experiences. The live interview recordings will be accompanied by a montage of images and interview footage from the project.
