The xx were formed in 2005 in London, United Kingdom and signed to Young Turks. The band members are Romy Madley Croft (vocals, lead guitar), Oliver Sim (vocals, bass guitar), and Jamie Smith, known as Jamie xx (beats, MPC sampler).
On 17 August 2009, the group released their debut album xx on Young Turks label. The album was recorded in a small garage and produced by the band. It garnered critical acclaim and has been extremely well-received across the globe. it ranked high on many “best of the year” lists with The Guardian placing it at #1 and NME placing it at #2.The group won the 2010 Mercury Prize for their album on 7th September 2010.
Their second album, Coexist, was released on 10 September 2012 and charted in the Top 10 of more than twenty countries worldwide.
