Verdi’s La Traviata based on the novel, The Lady of the Camelias, by Alexander Dumas, is perhaps one of the most frequently performed and best loved operas today.
Combined with Verdi’s lush and exquisite and unforgettable music, La Traviata is a story of a beautiful Parisian courtesan who gives up a life of luxury when she falls in love with the ardent Alfredo. Violetta later sacrifices her own happiness for the love of her life and for his family. Her heart broke when Alfredo, thought she had betrayed him for pursuit of money and frivolity, humiliates and insults her. Sadly, Alfredo later realised his mistakes and her sacrifice when Violetta was on her dying bed.
