I have always been a bit skeptical to visit Crystal Jade because the dim sums are quite expensive and I thought that they were not worth the price. However, I changed my view after visiting last friday with my family.

The Suan La Mian was great! There was a nice blend of spicyness and sourness, with neither too overpowering. The noodles was 'Q'. The fried tofu that I ate was crispy outside and soft and tender on the inside. The main highlight is of course the xiao long bao. When I bite, the juice inside just burst out. Simply delightful!

The service was also good. Very friendly. Had some good recommendation by this lady staff too.

Crystal Jade's Xiao Long Bao has got to be my favourite dish there. I love how sweet and tasty the soup inside in and the skin is not too thick.
Other dishes like their la mian are not bad as well.

If you're visiting this branch, expect to wait for half hour or so to be seated on weekends evening. The queue is always very long. Service is slow and orders take quite a while to serve.

Went to La Mian & Xiao Long Bao from Crystal Jade @ Jurong Point last weekend with my parents!

Was surprised that they had renovated, although it appeared too dark upon entering, very much different to its past bright concept!

Order the Saliva Chicken La Mian for myself, surprisingly it has the Chinese taste, very original taste. Despite being cold noodles, I'll give it a thumbs up! very tasty.

As usual, the xiao long bao was ordered, reached the usual standards!

Customer service was good as whenever my cup of chinese tea is emptied, the waitress will come to fill it up!

Had dinner at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Jurong Point with my gf as we were too lazy to go anywhere far for dinner.

There are actually many Crystal Jade variations around with La Mian Xiao Long Bao being one of them. The Jurong Point outlet was packed to the brim when we dropped by, just like all of the food outlets in the mall (whats new?). We had the set menu for 2, which included a side dish, a rice/noodle, a dim sum item and a cooked dish, all of which must be selected from a preset menu.

Crispy Beancurd Skin Roll - This dish was actually quite decent, with the beancurd skin crispy and not too oily. The filling of flour was a little chewy, tasting and looking very much like small cubes of mushroom. But beware, consuming too much of it will make you sick really fast because of the starch. This dish is best consumed with the accompanying zesty soya sauce.

Fried Rice with Prawn, Chicken & Ham - I would say that the fried rice was surprisingly quite good. Homogeneously fried with a generous serving of prawns, chicken and ham. The only thing that was lacking was the "Wok Hei" taste which was a pity really.

Sauteed Egg White with Fish Meat & Conpoy - As mentioned in a few of my earlier reviews, Prima serves a kick *** rendition of this dish and unfortunately, Crystal Jade's offering is nowhere in sight. Sure, its eggy from all that egg white and a little raw from the fish meat, but it just didn't manage to gel the flavours together like the one from Prima. However, this is still one very palatable dish and I will not hesitate to order it if I do go to Crystal Jade again.

Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling - A forte of Crystal Jade, the Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings or Xiao Long Baos (XLBs) were just a wee bit short of fantastic, owing to the minimally thicker than usual skin. Everything else was the same though, nice lean meat with lots of juice encapsuled within the skin and gushing out as the skin was breached.

          Souffle Egg White Ball -
The only other place that I know that sells such a dessert is Cheng Li Yuan, which also happens to do up a meaner version of it. Crystal Jade's rendition utilises a lot of icing sugar to make it sweet and the pastry is comparatively not as tasty or fluffy. But then again, Crystal Jade is closer to home.

A hearty meal for 2 stood at about $37, which isn't really too expensive. I must say that of all the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao outlets I've tried in Singapore (I believe I've tried all of them), Jurong Point's outlet is comparatively better than the rest in terms of food quality. You can read my writeup on the Takashimaya outlet here. However, service is another matter altogether. Though not rude or unfriendly , service was slow and spotty and I could spot quite a few aggrieved customers.

I am a big fan of La Mian & Xiao Long Bao from Crystal Jade. Once I feel like eating them, I will always think of Crystal Jade first. I have been to the Jurong Point outlet a few times and always find it crowded with people same as other outlets as well but to me the wait is worth it.

The few usual dishes that I like are

            1. Xiao Long Bao. Their star. Big and Juicy. The skin is not too thick or thin. The soup inside is sweet. The meat is tender.

            2. They offer a lot of la mian but my fav will be always La Mian with Fried Pork Cutlets. (Wonder I got it right?) The pork slices are fried but not oily, tender and juicy.

            3. Fried rice. Their fried rice are ok with me but I fine them a bit on the oily side at times.

            4. Side dishes like chicken in wine, their vegetatrian goose meat, I like, especially the last one. Although it is not the crispy type but it is full of flavour.

            5. Dishes. I like their huge kailan. It is really good and crunchy. They got a dish crabmeat with egg white then add a raw egg yolk on top. I like it as well.

            6. Dessert. I loved their mango pudding so much that I can have 2 servings at one go. Haa... Nice mango taste with real mango meat inside, mixed with a lot of condense milk. Yum Yum! It is always good to end the meal with one.

Most of the outlets I went to, find that their service are up to par and swift. Friendly most of the times.

Find the place always a bit too cramped and they try to squeeze in as many tables in as possible. Not able to hold a private conversation, but good to see what other people are eating though. Haa....

The place is always like those Hong Kong eateries noisy at time as well.

Overall, I like the food too much and able to overlook all the small little flaws they have. At time, they do have certain credit card promotions, so always ask before ordering.

            Enjoy!

Personally... I love Crystal Jade... But out of all the different outlets... La Mian & Xiao Long Bao, no matter which branch, is definately a no-no for me...

And the branch at JP, the food is juz so-so... And the service... SUXs....

Food served in Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao is not bad. However, would suggest them some suggestions for them to improve their customer service.

                1. Always clear the table clean before servicing the next new customer,

                2. For table arrangement, it would be good if the tables are placed spacious enough to allow customers and the staff to access the way in and out of the restaurant comfortably.

                3. Always served customers with drinks when customers are seated and not after customer have ordered their food and food are served.

                4. A good manager and supervisor should set a correct attitude to serve their customers rather then making so much unpleasant noise that disturb customers' dinning moods.
