I did my Lasik operation at the Lasik Surgery Clinic in June this yr. The service there was really excellent. The staff there would first request you to fill up a simple questionnare on your history of your eye's conditions. After which, they would then dilate your eyes using a lotion to check on ur pupils as well as conduct several other tests to determine if you are suitable for undergoing the surgery.

Once you have been ascertained to be suitable, you would then be asked to see if you are willing to undergo the surgery. At no point in time, did they pester you to make a decision on the spot. For me, I made the decision there and then, partly due to the consideration that GST was still at 5% then.

In addition, they would also provide recommendation on the types of Lasik surgery that you would be suied for based on the condition of your eyes. And again, I must say that they will not coerce you into taking up a pricer package, but rather let you decide on your own.

Before the surgery, they would first conduct a talk to share with the patients on teh various aspects of Lasik surgery and what you would expect after the surgery.

As for the surgery and the follow-ups (3 in total), they were very professional as well and made you feel completely at ease. If you have any doubts, you can feel free to check with the doctors or optometrists on the spot. Also, you have the option of choosing your own doctor to perform the surgery for you if you have had recommendations from your friends or relatives. For me, I did not have anyone and was assigned DR. Yap Soo Keong. And I must say that he was a very nice person.

Lastly, I must say that their prices are very competitive and if you are a SAFRA member, you can get a discount of 10%( if i remembered correctly). All in all, I must say that the clinic gave me a very good experience and I would recommend this place for those considering Lasik surgery

    142. Night Safari

    Nemesis Nemesis says:

have been to the night safari a couple of times before. To me, the experiences were quite good. Over there, you can see the nocturnal animals coming out, actually it can be quite a challenge to see them moving around. This is manily attributed to the fact that the entire surroundings are very dim in order not to let the animals be disturbed by the lightings.

For the more adventurous ones, they can take a slow walk and venture around to take a look at the various animals. As for those who have kids or are the lazy type, you can also take the tram ride and enjoy the guide doing the explaining during each stop. For me, i have taken both approaches before and I like to do the trekkng one more. BUt do take note that it can get quite stuffy and I did perspire quite a fair bit.

In addition, there is also a perfomance by the "stars" of the night safari. It was a nice and enjoyable show which both kids and adults will enjoy. As the show times are quite limited, it is recommended that you go for the show before you go for your walk or tram ride.

So do go there for a visit one of these days and enjoy a nice evening at the night safari.

just had my dinner at the new Food JUnction at Bugis Junction. From first glance, it seems much more stylish and trendy as compared to the previous food court at the basement. Instead of those normal plastic seats that you normally find at food courts, now you get more sturdy wooden seats as well as nice sofa-like seats as well.

However, actually these new seats took up a lot more space as well and thus I had to spend a good whole ten minutes gettg my food. So perhaps for those planning to eat there, do be prepared for the slightly longer waiting time for your seats.

Notwithstanding that, there are actually more food stalls now in this revamped food court. The new stalls include a Pepper Lunch Express (where the queue is ever present), aN Omelette Rice stall (where they sell those 蛋包饭 style of food), as well as a couple more stalls which I can't really remember their specialities as I only took a glance.

Therefore, for this new food court, I would say that indeed it is appealing in both the food and asethetics department. The only negative pt would be the lacking of ample seats to cater to the patrons during peak hours

    Another one to the list.

I know everyone's getting a little tired reading about donuts, but hey, the fire is still burning (thou not as strong) for all the donut factories in Singapore.

I tried Missy Donut once, but it was left with only one flavor, which I can't remember. So today I bought some home again to try, since there wasn't a queue when I was there. The selection of donuts aren't as many as some others, but I managed to pick 5 that hopefully will manage to trigger my tastebud.

One bite into the glazed donut ($1.10) and immediately I had to gulp down water to ease the sweetness. The layer of sugar onto was too heavy and the sugar content was too high. The dough was quite good but a little to the oily side.

My mum had the nutty choc ($1.20) one and she also said it was too sweet. But lucky for her, the nuts managed to balance the sweetness alittle for her.

Haven't tried to other flavors yet, but judging from the glazed one, which was supposed to be the basic donut, I'm not having a good feeling about the rest.

I wanted to try their desserts ever since I saw their poster out at Plaza Singapura. But I kept forgetting about this place when I'm there. But today, I remembered!

Went shopping with Mum at Plaza Singapura and I needed a break so I brought us to Aji Tei for desserts. The display of plastic dishes and yummy looking photos of their menu lured me in fast and furious.

As we weren't that hungry, we just ordered a dessert sampler, fried tofu and chicken skewer. The dessert came first, it looked different from the photo. There were a little too much starch (muah chee) in the 3 samplers. The green tea ice-cream on cornflakes saved this sampler. It was our first time having cornflakes with ice-cream. And we love the blend of the two.

The felt tofu felt very crispy when it was served. I could hear the crunch of the exterior when I moved it with the chopsticks. But the excitement of this dish faded the moment I tasted it. The tofu was tasteless and the sauce that came with it didn't quite help.

And then the chicken came. Didn't get to taste the original taste as my mum sprinkled chilli powder over it before I can take a photo. The chicken (with chili powder) was pretty alright. Not fantastic but better than the fried tofu.

For a die-hard Japanese resturants fan, I continue my search for better ones to add to my list. This one for sure, is not going to be listed in my favorite list.

    147. My Humble House
       11 Oct 2007 at 2:22 pm
    Nemesis Nemesis says:

Well I was one of the Yebbers who went with Claudia and Feizhu and his frens to attend the 5th Anniversary event at Humble House yestereday evening.

Therefore, I shall not have much to say cos it is likely to be a repeat of what Claudia and likely Feizhu's review when he post it by say next week?? LOL.

So yes, I have to agree that the ambience there is really very stylish and unique, having a combination of traditional and modern chinese styles of decoration. And yes, their cutlery was so unique that I was tempted to bring one back as a souvenier as well. haha. But of course I didn't do it lah.

Now comes to the food . Since Claudia had already touched on the Crispy Chickenn Rice, then I shall touch on another dish, the Wangyu Beef. Though this was the first time that I had tasted Wangyu Beef, I didn't find it to be very special thou. To me, it tasted like an ordinary piece of steak. It didn't live up to my expectations of providing that " Oh my god! Its so superb" feeling when I took my first bite. And I think the rest of us there also sorta of shared the same feelings toward this dish. Rite guys and gals?

As for the rest of the dishes, personally I felt that the taste was not up to their expected standard too, taking in consideration that this was Humble House, where exquiste and fine dining is supposedly to be the norm. Like what Claudia had mentioned, it could be attributed to the large turnout which could have caused the food standards to have suffered.

Still, I must agree that it was a good experience and had a good time chattg away with the rest of the Yebbers. So if I do go back to Humble House for a meal, it would likely be on a normal day instead of such an event. But it would also be paying a higher price as well and it definitely won't be that soon before I decide to go there again.

    148. My Humble House

A special evening at Humble House.

It was their 5th birthday and together with couple of Yebbers, we joined in the celebration last night. On this special evening, the place was transformed to a stylish cocktail environment where tables were set-up around the restaurant with their chefs and service staff serving up some of their best modern Chinese cuisine.

Without a doubt, My Humble House is the place to go for their chic and modern dining atmosphere. Experience the art of dining at My Humble House. One thing that we agreed in unison was the beauty of the decor and uniqueness of cutlery used.

The menu served that night includes Lobster Popiah, Foie-grass, Scallops, Wagyu Beef, Peking Duck, Fried Chicken Rice and tantalizing selection of desserts. There were also wine tasting tables spread across the room with 18 different varieties of old & new world wines.

Personally, my favorite from that night were the Peking Duck, Wagyu Beef and the Fried Chicken Rice. Let me elaborate a little about the Fried Chicken Rice...

Served in miniature cups, this is not just any usual chicken rice nor how the name suggested. When one hears the dish Fried Chicken Rice, one will imagine having crunch chicken bits with steamed chicken rice. However, their version was the total opposite. With the chicken rice fried and topped with steamed shredded chicken. And before you eat, they add in the chicken soup. The combination was unique and out of the norm. Bite into the spoonful of rice with soup, and feel the crispiness of the chicken rice.

Overall the food from the night was average. This may be due to the buffet style dinner, mass production of food, and hence the quality of the food is not up to their usual standard. Perhaps it'll be much better to go dine and try the regular menu. But then, that'll also mean paying a lot more for that.

    149. Bento Box

Had eaten at this place a couple of times with colleagues during lunch time. Bscially this eatery is more of a family makan place, whereby you can alway see families with young kids having their meals here. This place is a open concept with no walls other than this wooden partition in the middle, so be prepared to be within view of other shoppers. But still, the seats are comfy and shouldn't pose a problem to most people.

There is no service charge here cos it's pretty much self service. It can be liken to that of MOS Burger whereby you order and the food will be brought to you. And although the name suggests it is selling Japanese food, they do have pasta, pizzas and western food too. All of which are of a fairly decent standard. The Bentos can come with up to 3 sides and a miso soup. Personally I quite like their Teriyaki set with salmon sashimi set.

The prices are quite reasonable ranging abt $12 bucks or so for a set and if u are there before 12 pm( if I rem correct), you are entitled to like 10-15% discount on ur order!! So if you can make it before the stipulated timing, you are really gettg a very good deal for ur money!!

And the food is served quite promptly and is definitely up to the mark. So do drop by there and have a go at the bentos and perhaps a pizza. To me, this is really a place worth eating at for the quantity, quality and pricing.

Passed by this place one day sometime back while doing some shopping at Suntec City. As it was near meal time and seeing that there wasn't a queue, my gf and I decided to give it a try.

The restaurant itself was quite spacious and the seats were quite comfy. We were given seats near the entrance and we then proceeded to take a look at the menu.

As the name implies, their main specialities are the seafood and steak. Here, diners can enjoy the best of both worlds with their fantastic Surf & Turf Combos- featuring nine scrumptious combinations of steaks, chicken, salmon, prawns, and crayfish. We were quite impressed by the number of combinations made available to the patrons indeed.

Premium tenderloin steaks are prepared in a choice of 3 different styles – the classic New York, Fillet Mignon wrapped with bacon or Carpetbagger stuffed with oysters. All are served with grilled corn, steamed vegetables and your choice of baked potato or fries. The sirloin steaks are equally impressive, have it in “Bordeaux” red wine style or “Bourbon” marinated.

As for the seafood , there is the garlic or grilled Jumbo Prawns, which you can try. As for the soups, besides traditional Clam Chowder, another house specialty is the Oyster Chowder – a delicious, creamy broth cooked with fresh oysters. Other highly recommended starters include Prawn Quesadillas and the original Surf ‘n’ Turf Salad.

As my gf and I are not really fans of prawns or oysters, we didn't order the Jumbo prawns or oyster chowder. So we decided to order a classic New York tenderloin steak, as well as the Clam Chowder and a half seafood platter for starters.

I must say that the steak was quite succulent and very tender. The chowder soup was nice and thick and not diluted like some places, whereby they used Campbell's soup and the clams were quite chewy too. As for the seafood platter, the quanity was just nice for two ppl and the variety was quite good too (Sorry I can't rememebr thou what the exact spread was).

However, one thing that was slightly disappointing was the service there. You had to call a couple of times before the waiter would come over to check out ur requests.

As for the pricing, I guess it was reasonable enough. So do give it a try if you happen to be in Suntec and can't decide what to eat.
