If you are looking for excellent, made with non synthetic ingredients that is gentle to your skin, than these passionately handcrafted skincare are just what you need to fight the polluted air of city living.
We were surprised to find such excellently created merchandises on sale at the Mega Flea 11 and was even more thrilled to hear the story of how the idea of whipping up a wholesome and nourishing range of skin protecting creams and lotions came about. It is the desire of one who seemed to have never-ending sensitivity problems with off the rack skin care products that turned frustration into creativity energy and the determination to bring to her friends ultimately good, natural and organic skin nourishing products.
Our favourite, would have to be the scrubs which we didn't manage to try as it might get a little too messy, however the ingredients were fabulous. Natural sugar with grapeseed oil and we even spotted elderberry extracts. Elderberry extracts are one of the rare and expensive ingredients used in skin care products yet its extremely good towards inflammation and we loved the fact that we found it in the scrub that would mean it could go deep underneath those inflamed scabs and treat wounds naturally.
The texture for the body butter is silky smooth with a good dose of shea butter with no water added. Nourishing yet not sticky and slithered on with a light fragrance. We also enjoyed the body lotions and the hand cremes, they are not highly perfumed yet the natural smell of the oils used were pretty pleasant and humbling.
They were priced extremely economically as compared to products on par and had a shelf life of 1 year which is pretty good for a non-synthetic product. We loved the packaging and the passion involved in creation. Lovely range and we hope to see more.
Such products are hardly found anywhere unless you make it yourself.
It was a Saturday afternoon and we wanted some lunch. Pepper Steakhouse seemed to offer a rather decent lunch proposal on a weekend so we settled for it.
Located at a corner of Great World City, Pepper Steakhouse sported a sombre interior with dark leather bound seats and wooden tables. The place was empty when we walked in but started filling up when the clock struck noon.
Soup of The Day - A tad runny but at least the mushroom taste was still apparent. The accompanying slice of toast was bland and the grill marks were apparently just for show.
Pork Loin - The pork loin honestly looked gorgeous but the old adage holds true; Appearances can be deceiving. Spotting a weirdly soft texture (I had expected something tougher with more bite), the pork was topped with a layer of mushroom and melted cheese. All were bland and could do with a little more salt or flavour.
Sirloin - Done medium as per my request, the sirloin was a tad too salty for my liking and a tad soft as well. Having said that, the sweetness of the meat was sufficiently evident and all in all, a pretty decent piece of steak.
Tiramisu - The tiramisu's sponge to mascarpone ratio was largely skewed in favour of the mascarpone and a teetotaler's version at that. The coffee taste was apparent but the mascarpone wasn't rich enough. Still a decent eat.
Sticky Date Pudding - Not many places serve sticky date pudding so I usually make it a point to order one if I spot it on the menu. Topped with chocolate sauce, Pepper's rendition of this classic English dessert was palatable at best; The pudding wasn't spongy enough while coming across as a little too dry and dense and lacking the oomph factor. Maybe a scoop of ice cream would have done it good.
Weekend lunch was relatively cheap for the quantity and variety of food, at about $22/head. However quality of food hovered around the average mark though service was acceptable. I don't suppose I will be back again but I guess it might be a cheaper alternative amongst the higher end options at Great World City.
I didn't know about this car accessories mart until lately when I was searching for a video camera for my car. When I came to this place, I was a little confused because all I see is a car park and a tyre store. Although there are many signboard showing Autobacs company name but I just didn't know where is the main entrance to purchase the camera.
Finally I found the lift that lead to the mart. My first impression was 'big' for a car accessory shop. And it catches my eyes that they also provide car servicing and repairs. The servicing area is big and tidy. Since my car is old so it doesn't make sense for me to go back to the agent, I find this a good place for me to send my car for normal servicing because the price for the service is stated clearly and I don't have to make appointment at all.
I found this place has a large collection of car accessories, engine oil, tyres, camera etc. The people are also quite friendly. I bought a camera and a car seat cover. The salesman offer to carry the goods to my car and fit the seat cover for me. The seat cover was too big and he offer to refund the money to me automatically.
I came here the second time to do my routine service. Last week I came again to repair my car for a engine 'limping' problem. Unfortunately, we mis-communicated and they diagnose wrongly with a wrong problem. It was not their fault, because they saw the fault indicator but that was not my priority. In the end they replace back my old parts and refund fully for what they have charged.
I really appreciate their friendliness and politeness. They do not argue with customers for the mistake made.
If you are looking for car accessories or normal routine servicing, this might be a good place for you to pay a visit.
Although my car is due for scrap in a year's time, I thought I can make full use of it remaining life. But there are many problems forcing me to look into an early replacement. I tolerated the heat due to air-con leakage, I give it a hard hit before the window can be wound, I use my hand-phone light because all internal lights are off could be due to fuse blow, I top up motor oil every month because of the leak, I am doing all this just to buy time for a replacement because it takes time for car delivery. Unforetunately, just when I was sourcing for a car, my engine suddenly malfunction and turn into a limp mode which means the car cannot travel more than 50kmh. Can you imagine people horn at me on the road.
I sent my car to a regular service company and they diagnose wrongly and quoted me quite a big sum of money to repair. Luckily, I was introduced to this workshop. The owner name Is 'Cashin'. What a smart name. He did a diagnose for me for the entire car and surprisingly he can repair all the fault within a reasonable sum.
What I like about it is his confidence. He can tell me all the faults and the solution on the spot together with the charges. Most other car service workshop will tell me the charges after they done the service which will normally ended up quite a high fee.
Cashin did a good job for me to solve my car 'limping' problem for as low as $485 by changing a 'valvetronic motor and gasket' and he even top up the air-con gas for me FOC. Now no one will horn at me on the road.
I will strongly recommend him to all my friends because of his experience in Performance motor previously.
The Mega Flea series of tradeshow bazaars seemed always to surprise me. It amazes me because what seemed like a repeat of a similar event could have such interesting vendors all the time and merchandises so varied that I was excited because i found some really interesting stuffs.
Location, Environment & Atmosphere Well, the atmosphere was one that is laced with excitement, while coming up from the escalators, you could already spot signs leading you to the flea and as you approach the entrance, be greeted by some partners with booths and contest. Be a winner before you actually enter the flea hall. Globby's instagram contest was one that was fun while you could take a pic with the cute props with the Mapwerkz team at the Gumtree background while enjoying a yummy cup of ice cream with compliments from Gumtree.
The hall was well air-circulated and tables neatly arranged in columns with ample spaces at each lane for shoppers to crowd and move around. The entire atmosphere was filled with excitement, while you could hear one vendor explaining their merchandises and another customer asking for a discount. Haggling and laughters was pretty ample here and vendors were relaxed even when the crowd builds to a traffic jam around some booths.
Merchandises and Vendors I was really surprised to meet a few really interesting booths and as I do not want the review to sound like my grandfather's bedtime story, I would keep my lengthy descriptions to the #TMFM11 Post event article..
I found these exceptionally good handmade skincare products (Passionately Handcrafted) which is made of extremely good ingredients such as a concoction of natural oils (eg. grapeseed) and for the scrub i found elderberry extract which is a pretty rare ingredient to be used and somewhat an expensive one. Another booth across the hall promoted to me handmade soap from Ipoh with a history of more than 3 generations (Sabunim) that are made with pure coconut oil and can laterally rejuvenate your skin. The power of pure coconut oil is simply amazing and friendly to sensitive skin.
(The dorsal effect) is another interesting booth. Passionate with a clear and concise goal in mind, the team offers eco-tours to the island Lombok, off Bali, Indonesia, offering business to laid back fishermans so that they do not need to kill endangered sharks just to make ends meet.
(ISported) a newly designed app also made their debut at this flea, offering free downloads with wristbands for your favourite world cup teams. The app is intelligent enough to tell you where you can go nearby, be it a pub or McDonalds to watch football leagues without causing a fight at home.
Preloved Stores Fashion has always been a big hit for fleas but this time round I spotted more preloved booths with eager and friendly, trendily dressed ladies selling their preloved fashionable stuffs. Love their vibe and the easy going attitudes. What more, i found not only clothes and beautiful dresses and accessories, books and household items were also selling off fast. One such booth is made up of intelligent team of Malay family when their items were lovely and well organised, they even brought along a mic and speaker to boost their presence. Love the teamwork and the fun element they brought to the flea.
It was extremely enjoyable and out of so many fleas, this one got me into the buying mood and most items that I got were such good bargain, i was practically holding on to me cheesy grin the whole time i was shopping. Featuring many trendy and useful stuffs.. this is one of those memorable fleas for me and of course more stuffs to give away to make way for even more beautiful stuffs... LOVED THE EXPERIENCE and WILL COME BACK FOR MORE!
If you enjoy korean style fried chicken you should really pop by Kko Kko Nara at Tanjong Pagar. Walking distance from the MRT and the main road, this outlet is usually packed with diners during dinner hours, so please remember to make your reservations.
We were there on a weekday evening, good thing our friends arrived earlier and chopped us some seats. When i arrived which is slightly before 7pm, there was already a queue outside and well parking is pretty ample by the 2 sides of the road, so if you drive its pretty convenient.
This long restaurant has got pretty nice booth seats for a group size of about 4-6. Well cushioned and ventilated. I spyed our neighbours having Korean BBQ meat, however our good friend suggested a fried chicken party as their Fried Chicken are suppose to be super duper yummilicious. We thus started to order the various flavors and of course some korean wine to go with the meat.
The Original was crispy, tasty and juicy. Our good friend loved it so much that she ate almost half the chicken ($20 for half a chicken).
The garlic and soya sauce is my favourite, love the salty sauce and though my friends commented too savoury, it was just right for me. ($25 for half a chicken)
The spicy was a tad too spicy... I only had a small middle part of the wing and couldn't take it anymore... I was worried my lips would grow to sausage size.
I was surprised they had the lunch menu in which the chicken portions are about 20% cheaper than the dinner prices. Well, take away is the same price with GST and Service Charge but the package was nicely packed with side dishes accompanying salad and cold dish packed separately including a complimentary can of coke, not forgetting forks and serviettes.
We were pleasantly surprised by the number of booths at this flea. Mostly neatly arranged taking up almost half in length of the level 3 concourse in a good chronological order and banners placed at all the right places to direct crowd to the event location. The walkways were spacy and organizers friendly and easy to work with, environment kept calmingly cool with good ventilation and background music that hypnotises "Shop! Shop! Shop!"
It was fun as I browse walk through the many booths, inspecting a varied of merchandises from handy phone accessories, fashionable wear and foot wear, even ladies lingerie, children fashion and also had some rather interesting finds. As i'm a flea hopper, I tend to see pretty similar items being sold in most fleas, items like preloved clothes and accessories, branded make-up or korean skin care, children fashion and shoes.
I managed to find a few very interesting things and am going to name them one by one.
1. i saw fire extinguishers.... No kidding.... for the best protection for your family, your home and your loved ones. Equip yourself with a handy extinguisher for small kitchen fires or accidental electrical fires. Otherwise a fire blanket to snooze it off. Something i learnt, fire blankets have got no expiry date, now how educational is that.
2. Branded imported lingerie and bikinis.... I'm amazed, ecstatic even to find some very farmiliar brands from the USA being sold for $10 a piece.... colours were great and the booth owner was equally sexy as her merchandises.
3. Handphone accessories, something we cannot deny we still need and prices here were super affordable. I am glad a came by this booth.
4. Shoes shoes and more slippers? Yes, i found some really nice shoes for my men, slippers and casual wears.... usually flooded with preloved female footwear, here you get them new and for men...
5. I spotted fighting fish for sale... yes, these little aquatic tigers are for sale as ornamental lifestyle products. You get a nice container and a couple of these shimmering beautiful fishes.
The entire flea was very interesting to shop around made crowded by the nearby exhibitions and other conventions that are going on. I haven't got started on the funky t-shirts, super cheap toys and stationaries, interesting snacks and cakes on sale. Well its a flea with a good array of vendors and products, fit for the young and old.
Plus plus plus my niece got herself a super pretty blouse which she loved and a super cool rubber illuminated watch... Well her brother just go himself a minion t-shirt which is super comfy and thin... The parents.... stopped by almost every booth, lets just not get started about them!!!
Found this little treasure while I was browsing the flea market. Love the colours, collection, brands and varieties available and what more... they are very affordable :) *shivers with joy*
Its a humble looking stall neatly stacked with boxes and some standing shelves loaded with eye shadows with colours so many, you wish you had brought along a larger bag to hide your purchases from that bewildered look your hubby is gonna give you... So while i loaded up on the NYX eye shadows and not forgetting beautiful eye liners in multiple hues of black, brown and grays, and aimlessly drifted to the next section.
Lipsticks in all sorts of eye-popping colours that simply jump out at you. Yes. boxes of them neatly bundled with the colour number facing up. Yes... affordably priced, you can get a few of the fluorescent plump looking lip glosses to go with your equally loud lipsticks.
Besides NYX, they do also carry a few other brands and service is well... super friendly. Blushes, brushes, foundations of all textures and whatever that makes you pretty is also available. They do appear mostly in fleas otherwise you would have to catch them online via their online shops.
I had a wonderful time browsing their merchandises which has an amazing variety, prices are very economical (you know what i mean), products are real good quality and mostly sealed.. Now don't get me started on that multiple blush palette that contained 3 colours of blushers or many combinations of eye colours in one box.... I just couldn't stop....
Your nails can't look more valuable until you've got yourself foiled at Value Nails. Yes, they retail nail foils aka sticker for your nails yet must more lasting and with more a fashionable taste in design, texture and application.
Spotted them at one of the flea market and got a free trial on my fore finger... I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the application was and how perfect it looked post application. All she did was choose an appropriate size, stick it on and file the excess off with a filing stick and TADAH..... your nail is dressed in style... Smooth and perfect prints on my nails... with that i took a closer look at the hundreds of designs placed in front of me.
5 for $10, made me wanna buy more than 5.... with designs so pretty.. i don't know where to start... So i started with geometrical prints, then to the polka dots and stripes, floral designs, lace looking prints, characters and lastly 3D designs that pops out with a texture....
I took a long time selecting for the right print, yet all seemed to look right for me... coz its so simple to apply, i could change my designs everyday or every other day.... Just think about how hip my nails will look.... So i scratched my head and went into the agony of controlling myself not to buy every one design that i get my eyes on.. i guess maybe about 500 stacks of designs on the table.
Good thing the helpful staff was there to save the day. Though a tall, strong looking gentleman, he's pretty much an expert in these nail prints. He could intro me the special designs and the ones he held up are looking pretty amazing, such I took almost all he recommended and was in a happy frenzy mood afterwards.
When i got home, i started the sticking regime, its simple, just stick on and file off, however its not really easy to do it single handedly, so i would propose a friendly girl pal to do it with you. A good tip i got from the staff, always stick straight and make sure no bubbles, then the nail foil will last for the longest time.. Most importantly, no aggressive scratching or trying to pick staples off your documents... no nail art can take these punishing drills..... love yourself, look beautiful and buy some nail foils :)
For sure this is one of my favourite tee-shirt shop... Love the thin and durable material, love the cool prints and the one of the kind designs. I can confidently say that the merchandises Urban Street Culture carries invoked my long lost love for tee-shirts and I'm loving to wear them much more than ever.
I met them in a few flea events but as unpredictable flea events these days are, everytime when i see the shop I will make sure i get at least one top for myself. Its the surprise factor that added to the interesting prints you can find in the racks and racks of neatly stacked bubble tees. Like meeting with a long lost friend, Mike the owner could always remember what I bought previously and he's also been an inspiration to me.
The Tees are very reasonably priced, material durable with plenty of nice smooth prints. Yes, the prints are good for machine wash and tees not drool colours during wash. Thin and very comfy to wear with a good range of sizes that fits most asian men and women.
They do carry a good range of rock and roll metal band branded tees, cartoon characters with a funny twist as well as famous brands and our childhood logos. Good thing they do have a permanent store at Orchard Central so if you really wants some tees you could find them there otherwise online, try to email mike or try your luck at fleas :)
Super love their lovely tees :)
