5 Reviews for “California Fitness (Bugis) ” - Beauty and Wellness

I used to be a member of this gym for 2 years, but have recently switched to another gym after my contract expired. I have hence tried several fitness centres, and would base my review on my experiences with these fitness centres.
It is known that the sales staff at california fitness tend to be more sales-driven, hence making them appear pushy. Despite this, I personally find that the gym has its merits as well. The receptionists at the bugis outlet are quite friendly, and can help to brighten up one's day. Also, most of the outlets are located close to the MRT, and are more accessible as compared to other commercial gyms. Besides this, the instructors for the various gym classes appear to be more qualified as compared to some instructors in other gyms.
However, over the 2 years, there are some disappointing things about the gym that made me decide to leave for another gym. The equipment has not been properly maintained, and some personal trainers do not appear to be very qualified. Also, the management's cost cutting measures such as shortening the gym hours have made the it less enjoyable.
With regards to the membership fees, after being with a few gyms, I feel that there is always room for negotiation for a lower membership fee. We (consumers) are the ones with the bargaining power, so it's important not to succumb to the tactics of sales staff.
All in all, California Fitness is not a bad gym, and I certainly did enjoy my 2 years there. Should the management improve on the maintenance of their equipment and facilities, I would not mind rejoining as a member again:)

I was approached by some California fitness trainers on my way home at bugis. they we very persuasive and forced my to follow them up to their center. once at the center they were very pushy on signing for a 2 year contract where i would have to pay more then 150 SGD a month! and i am only a student who is 18 this year!.the most surprising part was he told me that they only allow people who are 21 and above but he could bring me in!. what are they trying to do here!forcing young people to commit even if they don't want to!and i am only a student! if approached i would strongly advice to aviod.this is my opinion. thank you
