Being tucked in the secluded top of Dempsey Road, I finally found my way to PS Café for a dinner. A café it might be, it is housed in a standalone pretty colonial bungalow away from the main thoroughfare.

PS, which stands for Project Shop - a local mid-market casual clothing chain, attracts a surprisingly upmarket crowd. It is perhaps the glass façade and high ceiling that adds a touch of grandeur to the already nice ambience you get whilst sitting inside the restaurant. The staffs were also friendly and approachable.

However, the food did not seek to impress me that very night. The starter of salad was merely greens and some roasted eggplants that were zealously drizzled in olive oil – straightforward, nothing fanciful, nothing captivating.

The Thick Fries were surprisingly the best dish for the night. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, it went well with the 2 dips that came with it – a BBQ flavour and the other, I perceived to be Sour Cream based.

The Tubular Pasta though was the letdown of the night. It seriously lacked flavour and was under-cooked – a couple more minutes would have achieved the Al-dente texture. However I would admit that I am beginning to like the idea of having snow peas in my pasta dish.

The dessert was also tortuously too rich for me. Profiteroles, or Small Cream Puffs filled with Ice Cream; served with Thick, Dark, Chocolate Syrup, is just not my kind of dessert after a heavy dinner.

Overall, a nice place to go for a first date, but skipped the pasta if you have to and go for the seafood and their famous brownie for dessert instead.

Unlike spindoctor, I've been there for only their desserts and drinks. Their chocolate cakes are really chocolatey and nice! Great place to hang out with my friends for relaxing conversations.

What stopped me from giving PS Cafe a 5-star is its location. Driving there is almost a must.

Situated in Harding Road, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, PS Cafe is the perfect place for a romantic or quiet dinner for 2 or a place to get together with friends for a meal and chatty conversation. There are 3 sections, the indoor restaurant, outdoor alfreso dining and the lounge area, where you can get warmed up with drinks and cakes before embarking on the real deal.

The selection of food is varied and unique. We had the Beef Ragout and the Steak Sandwich. The portions are huge and can be shared by 2 persons, at least for the steak sandwich.

There are daily specials that are handwritten on the wall. So just look at the wall and place your orders. This is not your average eating place so it is best to make a reservation before coming by to dine.

Nice environment and ambience. There is also a huge selection of wines ranging from $79 to more than $100 per bottle.

Price : Entree about $24 to about $50

Location : Away from the city. Best to get there by 6:30pm, by night it is pitch darkness.

Staff : Friendly and accomodating. We did not make a reservation but since we were early (about 6:30pm), they tried to locate a seat for us (outdoor). When we indicated our preference for indoors, they obliged and led us to a good spot indoors.

Specialties : Try the cakes. Come by during tea time on weekends and you can practically spend the entire afternoon chatting and eating with your pals. Cakes are fresh and delicious.
