This shop basically sells roadside snacks that, from the name, I assume are popular snacks in Taiwan. They have things like fried chicken, oyster mee sua and some other snacks. It’s not bad and the price could be said to be just a little above average, if not just right. The only bad thing is that there are not many seats available at the various outlets other than the one at Cathey Cineplex and Cineleisure.

This shop can be found at various places such as Cathay Cineplex, Cineleisure, Far East Plaza and Hougang Mall (I think).

Taiwan Shihlin Snacks offers a range of snacks like their XXL Crispy Chicken, Crispy Floss Egg Crepe and Handmade Oyster Mee Sua which are popular snacks sold on the streets of Taiwan.

Hmm..for my part, I found the snacks a little too ’strong-flavoured’. The XXL Crispy Chicken was probably a little too oily, but the portion is definitely XXL and worth every cent that you paid. And as for the Oyster Mee Sua, similarly..it was too strong-flavoured as well at the beginning. However, I must say that it’s not bad once you eat a few mouthfulls of it, and the oysters were really big~

Yeah, but I do agree that it’s a pity that the seats available at the various outlets are really kind of pathetic. It usually seats around 3 to 4 people max, and it’s really not a comfortable place to enjoy your food/snack.

Yet..that’s what Taiwan Shihlin Snacks is all about. Eating along the streets, like the locals do in Taiwan! I guess we just have to do it our way. “Ta-bao” and enjoy it in the comforts of our homes.. =P

By the way, it’s located at Marina Square, Suntec City, Bishan Junction 8, Hougang Mall, Tiong Bahru Plaza, Harbourfront Centre, Century Square and IMM as well. =)

Taiwan Shihlin Snacks offers a few variety of snacks (:

agree that the it is a bit pricey. all snacks cost ard $3.20. and also of the SPACE !!! haha . not too comfortable for ppl who wants to sit and relax (: there will be lots of ppl waiting for yr space before you have even finish your food .

but love the Handmade Oyster Mee Sua. a definite “must try” yumm... the Crispy Floss Egg Crepe is great too . haha .

the IMM one is clase for the moment .
think the one at habourfront is the best of all ! (:

          Only dry chicken from here

This is a franchise I love to hate.

It is supposed to carry the best of Shih Lin in Taiwan, but all I got was dry, stale and powdery chicken.
          I hate it.

Here’s a tip to the Shih Lin Franchise:
Go and see how those chicken chops are sold in the pasar malams.

The one that I frequent is the outlet at Century Square *Tampines*. All as all franchise chains go, the food do taste different at each outlet....

I only buy the XXXL Chicken Cutlet. I like the overall taste really. But it can be very oily. The last bits are inedible usually as it’s soaked in oil at the bottom of the bag.

I’m a small eater so one serving is sufficient as a meal but it’s not cheap at $3 so not really what you would call value for money.

Good as an occasional snack but not if your throat’s already suffering.

I too tried their XXXL Chicken Cutlet. It tastes pretty good, but it is really oily! Just looking at them preparing it makes you feel really guilty for eating such unhealthy food.

At $3 a pop, it is not exactly cheap too. I guess it’s good if you got a friend to share the serving with.

Its been awhile since I had the XXL Chicken nor the Tempura. I used to be a fan of Shihlin’s snack, everytime I passed by an outlet, I’ll want to buy either of my favorite (and many times, both at the same time *sin sin*). Ever since I started dieting, I’ve stopped eating both of them.

I’ve to agree that it’s oily and unhealthy, and yes, there’s slight difference in the taste/texture from different outlets. Guess for me, as long as there’s lots and lots of chilli and pepper powder, I don’t really care. *LOL*

Shihlin’s Tempura is yummy! Although its like chewing on flour or whatever it is, but I like the taste and texture when you chew on them. Just thinking of it now, makes my mouth itch for some hot and spicy Tempura!

It is a very poor copy of the Shihlin’s snack. So much different from the orginal one back in Taiwan.

The XXL chicken is tough, tastless, salty and oily. For the rest of the snacks they are selling, is also a far cry from the real thing.

Dun think I will buy from them again, unless they bring the orginal receipe back here again.

Tried their XXL chicken and I felt that its so different compared to those from Taiwan. Not really original but it would be good if one is looking for snacks.

                    Beware~ oily and unhealthy. =)

I do agree if you are getting it to share with friends etc.

Depends on the period. If its peak, they don’t even bother to drain the oil much but I do like that they will only fried the required amount that is needed and it came fresh from the oil.

Love this shop! I frequent the one in The Cathay.

Tried it the first time because my friend forced me to buy the meesua. It was very nice! I don’t like oyster though so I didn’t eat the oyster. My boyfriend likes the crispy xxl chicken. However he (and I) are not allowed to eat deep fried food so often anymore so we don’t buy it so often. I like the crepes! I always order the crepes. It’s not too expensive but tastes really good.

Overall, I think it’s nice ;) although can be sinful sometimes.. Find out how much calories are inside that crispy xxxxxl chicken. =P
