Colleagues and I picked this place for a staff lunch as they were having a 1-4-1 buffet lunch promotion with UOB cards - at $40 per pax with a maximum of 8 diners per card. This works out to be $20 per pax which was a superb value considering that some set lunches out there are a similar range.

Appetitzers - there are plenty of appetizers to choose from eg potato salads, DIY salads, mushroom salads, tomato salads etc which comes with a range of dressings. There is also a cheese board with 4-5 types of cheese and crackers. Most of them are quite nice, including the cheeses. There's also a sushi platter.

Soups & bread - We had 2 choices of soup that day - salted veg duck soup and minestrone. Both were not too bad honestly, and I liked that they thought to have 1 asian and 1 western soup. Didnt try the bread which looked sad.

Seafood - I didnt expect cold seafood for such a promotion but they did have them - prawns, mussels, scallops. I only tried the prawns which were okay but I've tried fresher ones at other places though.

Hot dishes - Mostly asian selections eg. hokkien mee, sotong & fish in dark sauce, assorted roasted meats, crab meats, stir fried veg, and butter prawns with curry sauce. I remember a western dish of potato fritata which were disappointingly soft.

Desserts - Quite nice but not wow. More mini cakes on offer eg. cheesecake, chocolate banana, orange chocolate, walnut maple pie, swiss roll, lychee jello, bread butter pudding, a simple fondue, and asian desserts like pulau hitam.

Service was okay and plates were cleared quickly.

I wouldnt pay the original price of $40 per pax but with the UOB 1-4-1, its worth a shot. And the selection is not too bad too.

(sorry for the bad photos - I never quite know how to take nice buffet pics!)

For my mother-in-law's birthday, we brought her to The Square @ Furama to celebrate. As we hear good reviews from a friend who often went round to test out buffets, we decided to give the place a try.

We need to place advance reservations as we are told that it is often fully booked especially in the weekends and walk-in are seldom entertained due to no available seats. We booked 5 days in advance, and the restaurant called us 1 day before to re-confirm our timing and number of pax, which was quite surprising for us.

The food spread consists of international buffet spread like sushi, chinese cooked food, salad bar and dessert. The spread was limited as compared to other buffet restaurant but the food quality was very good. Even my picky sister-in-laws commented that the food was good and go for 2nd and 3rd rounds. We like the peking duck (crispy n juicy), chilli sotong (soft and tasty, not hard or rubbery due to over cooked), pan-grilled fish, and the 1cm thick n fresh tuna sashima and cooked cold octopus meat at the seafood section. However, we were abit disappointed that chilli crabs and oysters were not on the menu on that day..Friend had recommended these 2 dishes to us :p

The dessert was ok - ice-cream, cakes slices (must try the bread pudding), fruits, ice kacang and aelo vera cocktail. Drinks were limited to free flow iced water, hot coffee or tea (coffee was very good, strong and full of favour). Service was good as they are very attentive and cleared our plate/top up water also immediately.

But we were planning to come back again as the Father-in-law was asking us when we are going back again for Father's Day celebration.
