Dine here once with my friends during dinner. The interior here is quite nice as it looks quite hip and modern and atmosphere/ambience was quite good. The service was alright.
The food was not bad as well. The Mango Chicken was really nice and I was quite surprised when I was eating it as I didn't expect there to be mango stuffed in between the chicken. It was quite special and taste quite good. Worth a try.
Another special thing is that they serve their plain water in a big glass bottle. They'll put one big glass bottle at your table and you can just pour from it if you need a refill.
The thing that caught me and 3 other friend's attention to head into White Dog Cafe and Vivocity was the price of the beers that they were offering for all day long. $3.50 for a Tiger, $5 for Heineken and $6 for Kilkenny's. We headed in and stayed for 5 rounds of beer. In addition to that, we had lots of side dishes to go along the way. Wedges, Garlic bread, sauteed mushrooms, pizza, mexican wings and a few others. I have to say the food was actually better than I expected. Bill chalked up to about $50 per pax but it was well worth it for the amount of drinks and food.
Last Saturday I brought my family for lunch at White Dog Cafe. We must have visited the Cafe not less than 7-8 times in a year. It seemed that the popular set lunch menu had been changed, and that the price had also gone up than before.
Instead of my family favourite of marinated chicken which was not longer available, we opted for breaded cutlet chicken instead, and what a disaster.
The bread crumb covering the tiny slice of chicken was triple the thickness and you are eating nothing but flour. Also te special chili dip was a lot more spicier than before. One of the Philipino waitress (Juvy) was not having a good night as she seemed and completely emotionless on her job, nor any sense of humour, and robotic.
Bottomline for the set menu :
1) price gone up
2) portion reduced
3) service downgraded
4) inconsistent chili dip
After the lunch, my family unanimously concluded that it would be our last visit to White Dog Cafe. We will stick to Jack's Place at Ang Mo Kio instead.
I know it sounds a little funny on why the cafe is name that way. I know no history of the origin of this white dog, but then its just the name of this cafe that I feast at. And I must say its not that bad, judging from the outlook of the place and food.
In conjunction to celebrate our 6 years and 4 months together, my girl and I end up at White Dog Cafe at Vivocity, which she introduced me to. Serving mainly western dishes, we gazed at the menu for a while before ordering our food. So I ordered a plate of Baked Mussels, together with my A La Carbonara for my main course and a Clam Chowder for soup of the day. She ordered some Viennece Sausages. Sounds Italian.
Amazingly the Clam Chowder is literally clam in soup, which was what normally restaurants and cafes that I ate DON’T serve. Normal cafes like Cedele only serve clam chowder as if its just an ordinary Campbell’s soup. This one’s different. Fantastic stuff. So came the Baked Mussels. Well, I’m not sure if my taste buds were wrong, but I could hardly taste the mussels. But its not that bad, given that its baked with spaghetti sauce and cheese.
Was waiting anxiously for the main course - the A La Carbonara. I must say that it serves one of the finest carbonara I have eaten in years. Creamy and tasty, its cooked with pork bacon and onions. Rarely have I seen carbonara cooked with Onions. And this one’s a dish that doesn’t disappoint. Every mouth I swallowed with greatness. Superb and fantastic. Enough to fight with Pasta Fresca’s.
Then I tried the Viennece Sausage that darling ordered. The sausage was good, just that the sauce that the mash potato was poured onto tasted like petrol (It's my taste buds that day, oh well, I'm not dead yet. LOL!). Its not that I tasted petrol before, but then my taste bud may have gone weird, but I couldnt taste wrongly. Maybe its the way its cooked. But I don’t like it though. Hmmm..
Price was alright, like almost every other restaurant. Ambience was cool, judging that I saw at the window area, facing Sentosa. But judging from the noise level just now, I believe that this restaurant is also a place for families to have their meals there as well. Friendly staff with good service. I suggest you could give this restaurant a go ahead if you wish to have a decent meal. =).
White Dog Cafe-- Indeed a catchy name to recall. With its funky artistically designed Interior Deco. One cannot help but want to explore this place a bit...
Situated in a not so crowded corner of our really vivo VIVOCITY, is another fun restaurant which serves excellently priced set lunches for all our dear lunch yuppies out there..
The setting is great.. with long tables for your big group of colleagues and nice cosy couches for the shopping break tai tais..... This cafe provides a great view of the viewing deck outside as well as the reconstructing Sentosa.. Our Only NEARBY, CHIC and Most Funnest GETAWAY.. With Beach Hunks and that Ooh so sexy low hanging Board Shorts.. Oops.. Don't get me started on that man..... Well the view is great... and whats better to ease up the mood then a nice cute jug of iccy.... coool... Water with slices of Lemons... I just can't Get Enough Of That.. Healthy and No CALORIES.. BEST OF ALL.... ITS FREE
The set lunches are priced pretty seductively.. with much choices to offer... You've got Pizza.. Sandwiches.. Pasta.. Baked Rice.... Chicken Chops and much much more..
Though the soup of the day didn't really make my day, the Pizza did the job. Thinned Crispy crust with a good deal of ingredients.. Its not to die for but acceptably good for a slim lunch... The baked rice taste Normal however.. the rice beneath the chunky cheese Cover is full of sauce and flavour.. which is what i like....
Interesting place.... Must go at least once in your lifetime.... if not Dog will become Elephant.... White Elephant... heehee!!!
The opening of Vivo City has seen many new restaurants/cafes popping up to capitalize on the crowds that throng Vivo City daily. One such new restaurant/cafe is White Dog Cafe.
Located just a few doors away from the much talked about Kim Gary, White Dog Cafe hosts its own steady stream of customers in its simple yet cosy interior with a view of Sentosa to boot. The menu is interestingly done up to mimic the spots of the Dalmatian. Other than that, nothing else seems to suggest why the outfit is named White Dog Cafe.
Soup of the day - This was plain lousy. The soup was way too salty and tasted like cabbage soup with some small balls of meat in it. The accompanying garlic bread was equally bad, coming across as slip shod and bland.
Deep Fried Breaded Beef with Japanese Mayo -
This was recommended to me by the waiter and it sort of blew me away with its quality (this is not a compliment in case you are wondering). The bread coating was way too thick and the beef was tasteless. It was no different from eating deep fried crispy bread. Probably the only thing that was still okay was the rice. Ironical isn't it?
Etoile - My dessert of a specialty cake, the Etoile, which is essentially a dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. Sadly, it didn't meet expectations. The outer layer of dark chocolate did look like dark chocolate, but certainly didn't taste like it. I couldn't detect any bitterness or strong chocolate taste for that matter. The chocolate mousse was bland and the cake wasn't spongy. Terribly done if you ask me and I'm very sure the cakes aren't made in house. If they are, its time to change a new pastry chef.
A disappointing lunch for 2 pax cost $28.40. Not really expensive price wise, but factor in the quality of food and you have a no brainer conclusion. I will not be back. I guess that pretty much sums it all up doesn't it?
A definitely must go restaurant for food lovers :)
attractive and cosy design, good ambience and not too much customers.
it was quite awhile the last time i went there so i couldnt really remember all the details but me and my bf both think that they serve the best mushroom soup in Singapore! (or maybe of those we tried) it was really thick and creamy and delicious!
i ordered the wagyu beef burger with foie gras. i really enjoyed my burger! the beef was tender and somehow i think they toasted the bread slightly, with butter, making the bread rather crispy, and it really goes well with the beef! my bf ate the foie gras as i do not take it, but he said that its not very perfectly done and it tasted abit like pig liver? hah! i do not understand as i do not eat livers so i couldnt really understand what he was talking about.
oh yes, the service indeed took quite long given the fact that there werent much customers at that time. but well, we werent that hungry so its okay as the food compensated for the long wait.
however.... it was quite costly id say. we spent about 70 dollars for 2 person. but well, at least we enjoyed ourselves.
