Initially, I was just searching for a place with a nice ambience and good food to chill out and spend time with my friends. But it turned out to be a rather nice experience.
As we went there slightly before the peak hours, we did not have to queue long before we got a seat. We were seated on cushioned sofas which were very comfortable and quickly ordered our meals!
The first dish that arrived was the grilled chicken which my friend ordered. The dish consisted of half a chicken and also came with rice and spices. It was a rather filling meal but my friend commented that the chicken was a little overcooked thus the meat was quite dry and a little tough. However she still finished the dish so i guess it was alright.
Then the pastas arrived. My friends ordered "Waterworld" which was seafood pasta, and black pepper chicken pasta. Both dishes were quite well-liked although one of my friends commented that the black pepper was a little too spicy.
Finally my meal came! I tried the cheese chicken, which also came with thick mango slices and nachos. The sweetness of the mango blended well with the cheese on the chicken and the nachos was a good choice as a sidedish.
Overall, the food came in adequate portions and was quite tasty but the staff took quite some time to top up the water.
On my second visit, I went after a day of shopping to try the one-for-one waffle promotion on fridays and saturdays after 10. As it was on promotion, we could only choose from 3 flavours, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry but we could order 2 scoops each. The taste of the icecream waffle was normal but for it's price it was rather worthwhile. So if you are around the suntec/marina area at about 10, feel free to go there to get a refreshing dessert!

So on one of the afternoons that I was free and was passing by Balestier Road, I decided to just walk down the street and get some. Indeed there were quite a number of shops along the whole stretch, but the one that caught my attention was 603 tau sar piahs. Theirs was the first shop I saw after turning the corner and they had a large red signboard outside the shop, so oncoming cars could see it and stop by to get some snacks. Furthermore, I could already smell the tantalising aroma of the tau sar piahs from afar.
First time in a tau sar piah shop, so i just stood in front of the counter staring at the rows of different flavours of tau sar piahs in front of me. To my delight, apart from different flavours of tau sar piahs like durian, yam, red bean, pineapple, salted, black sesame, coffee, lian rong, they also sold pastries like currypuffs, tuna puffs, chicken pies, baked char siew buns and some other breads. Really a large variety for us to choose from. =)
In the end, I could not resist the aromas, and decided to try one of each of the different flavours of tau sar piahs as they were sold at a cheap and affordable price of 50 cents and I also ordered the chicken pie, tuna puff and baked char siew bun. Too bad the famous currypuffs were sold out already, if not I would have tried it as well.
Upon reaching home, I let my family try out these unique flavours. My mum tried out the durian flavoured one and found it refreshing as the taste was not too strong but still left a lingering taste in the mouth after eating it. It also had a really nice aroma. My dad tried the coffee flavoured one and was also raving about it's nice taste. I myself tried the tuna puff and found it to have abundant tuna fillings and the crust was crisp but flakey. =)
I bought too many so the rest were kept for tea breaks or suppers. At first I was worried that the tau sar piahs and pastries might not turn out as good if kept for long but when I tasted them the next day, they still tasted as good. So my family and I had wonderful tea breaks for those few days.
I particularly liked the pastries especially the chicken pie as the crust was just nice and there were large chicken cubes and potatoes within, which made a very substantial meal. My family liked the tau sar piahs as it not only catered to the traditional tastes and also provided new experiences.
In all, I recommend this tau sar piah shop as it sells a large variety of tau sar piahs and pastries and the aunties at the stall are very friendly and will even make recommendations of the bestsellers. Most importantly, it caters to the tastes of the entire family =) Good place to go to if you are looking for nice and cheap snacks!

Both of us ordered the Gloria Jean's ice chocolate. First time there, so we tried out the in house-specialty which was thought to be the safest and presumably best beverage in the shop. It was only after we ordered that we realised that there was a promotion going on that entitles each person to 2 dollars off our drinks. What a pleasant surprise! Not to forget the polite and friendly service at the counter.
So in the end, we got a nice and cold medium-sized beverage with loads of whipped cream for only 3 plus each! Furthermore, there was quite a big area for us to sit down and chat. There was also wireless connection there. Nice beverages and pleasant atmosphere to spend our afternoon.
Additional point for those who have heard about the famous donut store at raffles city and want to try it but haven't had the time to queue up : the queue ends beside gloria jean's so you can have a drink or even surf the net or finish up some work before joining the queue! A good time-saver!

Other pastries that I tried from Polar which are also worthy of recommendation are the chicken pies and the hot dog rolls. Furthermore, the stores often have discounts selling 2 of the selected pastries for a offer price, making it an even more worthwhile deal!
So next time you walk pass a Polar store, stop and try some of the pastries there! You won't regret it! =)
Sidenote: Although most Polar outlets only do takeaways, however if you want to have a chat over tea, you can try the outlet at the end of citylink. It' s quite a cosy small corner and you won't face much disturbance.

When we went for our meal some time after, there was an offer going on, selling the satire fillet with fries (which was previously priced higher) at the same price as the usual cream dory fish and chips. All at $6.50. So 3 of us decided to try the satire fillet instead of the usual dory fish and chips (thinking that it would be a better deal and perhaps try a new type of fish).
When the food arrived, it looked pretty appetising, with a large portion of fries. However when we tried the fillet, the meat was rather tough and not as smooth as the usual fish and chips sold at other restaurants. We were rather amused as this set was supposed to be priced higher and thus should garner more plattery satisfaction? On the whole it was "edible", but we were thankful that we paid a discount price for it, not very worth the usual price.
Service was acceptable and ambience ok as we went during the afternoon and there were not many people around. Another good place to sit around for a chat during meals but perhaps the next time i visit, I will stick to the cream dory fillet!
