Nestled right at the top of Bukit Chandu is this museum that provides a glimpse into the past; Especially the battles fought at and around Pasir Panjang.....Ever wondered that battles were fought at Vivo City!!
This was no ordinary battle as it was between the Malay Regiment and the Opposing Japanese forces. They were clearly outnumbered (1400 vs 13000) but their shear grit and courage moved them to defend what was left of Singapore. It was like a do or die situation and many lost their lives defending the "last" holding area before the capture of Singapore. The battle lasted for a short while from 13th to 14th February 1942.
The museum itself is divided into 2 levels. The highlight of the first level is the Battle of Pasir Panjang. Did anyone ever know that a major battle was fought here? Well it was and it seemed like it was the last stronghold. Situated at the top of a small hill called Bukit Chandu (Opium Hill). Being in an elevated location seems to be a strategically sound idea. But in the end being outnumbered 1 to 13 was not a pleasant thing....even in MMORPG
The highlight of level 2 is the Bukit Chandu Theatre. Here is where the battle at Bukit Panjang comes alive. One of the heroes of this battle was Lt. Adnan Saidi. Adnan was entrusted with the defence of Pasir Panjang Ridge, the last British bastion before Alexandra, where their main ammunition and supplies, military hospital and other key installations were located.
They tried their best to frustrate the Japanese effort to take over the Ridge, but the fighting strained Adnan's men and in the end they had to retreat to Opium Hill. They fought until they ran out of ammunition and had to resort to hand to hand combat. At this stage of desperation, together with the sheer force of the Japanese troops, they had to suffer a grisly defeat. Adnan himself suffered a brutal death. The Japanese soldiers angry with him for leading such a brave front that lead to the heavy Japanese casualty, tied him legs up to a tree and bayoneted him repeatedly.....the rest is just too gruesome to describe here....a family friendly site.
Why do humans do such things to one another? We ended up leaving this place with this question. Was it greed, ambition of one man, revenge.. or was it just wild animalistic behaviour that war brings about in people. They are taught to kill in the fastest way and to survive at the expense of others. And yet till today, who remembers Adnan and the battle at Opium hill? There is a plaque at Kent Ridge Park and you can find his memorial at Cemetery No. 385 bearing the words "Lt. Adnan Saidi" in Kranji war memorial.
Although there are many exhibits here which provides a good reflection of the past and our history, one cannot stop but think of the torment and the desperation that war brings about. Of course this also provide an inspiring account of bravery, steadfastness and endurance - which we all hope to show in other ways.
Just next to the musuem is the Canopy walk....but this is a different story.
Well... won't comment on the ice cream since for such ice cream retail, the taste and price are the same every where. Staffs are quite ok though I've encountered better staffs who are friendlier. However the place is real small and cramp. Many of the times I went, there were no seats. Except for once we went when the shop is near closing.
Better to purchase the ice cream and eat walking around rather than wait for seats to be cleared and tables wiped. And due to the low number of staffs at each outlet, this outlet was no exception. The speed of clearing tables wasn't there and a few times, customers have to push away the used cups and spoons or throw the used utensils away to use the tables.
Located near Thomson Plaza. Went there recently though I don't like to eat seafood but I still went as this place also provided "zi2 cha4".
The food tasted good although the variety is limited. We order baby Kai Lan (S$8), sweet sour fish ($10) and Gong1 Bao2 Chicken ($10). Prices are ok as even though we ordered small portions the amount of each dishes are still large (compared to other restaurants) The sweet and sour fish is very well cooked and the baby kai lan fresh and not too oily. Too spicy for the Gong Bao though.
We also ordered Chillied (or some will say Curry) Sri Lanka crabs at 2.8Kg. Heard that the buttered crabs are also nice. The Chilli is quite sweet but also very spicy though the spiciness is just right if you take it with the Fried Bread.
Tried some of the meat of the crabs. Quite nice, chewy and sweet. The crab is very very meaty those who likes to eat crab meat will love it ba.
We also ordered Yam paste with ginko nuts. ($12) The yam paste is not very well done as you still can feel the yam bits but I like it that way as it makes the yam dessert more chewy. The ginko are bitter though as the center stem wasn't removed.
4 of us spent a total of $167.00 the bulk of it went to the crabs which cost about $110.00
Tried out this after hearing from a friend. There are not many flavours when I went. I chose the orange chocolate, kiwi, taiwan, pepper chicken, curry chicken and the normal chocolate.
I would say in order for flavours like orange chocolate and kiwi to taste good, the taste of eggs have to be reduced. So those who love the taste of eggs may not like these flavours.
I would say they are rather well baked with generous amount of filling. Egg filings are well made and the flavours blended well. Curry chicken flavour was also well liked as its the filings of curry puff but in the shape of egg tarts. You can see the potato, onions and chicken inside.
I will buy again but not regularly as they are most likely fattening. They will serve well as gifts though, packed nicely in boxes.
Went there for dinner today. Well, its not really a restaurant to recommend but if you like home cooked style of meals and don't really mind paying 2X the price compared to cooking at home then this is the place. In fact when I come to this place, there are a few standard items that can be ordered which I think are good and valued for money.
1. Iced Lychee Tea (this definitely is a must for me) 2. Iced Ying Yong 3. Po Luo Bao 4. Fried rice with pork floss (I tried today and will order it as a standard) 5. Curry chicken with bread
The rest, just try once in a while when you got sick of the standards. But the menu is quite comprehensive, there are so many things in the menu its quite difficult deciding if you haven't been there before. However I will rather choose "Wang Kok " than "Xin Wang" for food though I prefer the tea at Xin Wang.
Its a good location for group outings though, the atmosphere is quite "Re4 Nao4" though the staffs there should learn more on service courtesy

Firstly the "manager" cut in while we were talking among ourselves. Though he is explaining the menu, its real rude to just cut in while we were chatting.
2ndly, my medium well done steak came out medium, and CY's medium steak came out medium rare. (and the auntie waitress was going "too raw AH?" and "cook some more LA?")
3rdly, the waiter delivered the desserts wrongly. When we asked him about it (since we did not ask for it to be served) he insisted that his manager asked him to deliver and proceed to put the desserts on our table. He should have said that he will check and not just listen blindly to his manager.
4th, proceeded to bill us for things not delivered.
Nothing much to commend just that the ambience was quite good and suitable for some family gathering. Can go there if you want value for money portion of food esp the set lunch and dinner.
Read some good reviews and had some good recommendation from friend. We were warned that the place will be damn full and sure enough even when we wanted to make reservations, the reservation was full.
We were greeted by the friendly and sunshine waitress and their very polite manager. We did not had a long wait... at most 15 mins and we were led to our seats.
Ordered steak lunch set, curry udon (with rice), seafood platter and spaghetti bolognaise (don't know how to spell)
After many good reviews and the full reservations, the full house, I was quite disappointed with the place.
Steak: Although they mentioned their sauce is very special etc etc... the portion I ate wasn't that very special. Very salty and tasted like soy sauce to me. The saltiness of the sauce also covered the taste of the beef However the tenderness of the steak is just right and the set is quite valued.
Curry Udon : Came with rice too. This seems to be the best among all the dishes. A tad too sweet for me though most Jap curry are like that.
Seafood Platter: Rice wasn't that great... taste doesn't seem to be there. I feel like I'm just biting something. The person who ordered this mentioned that the combination of the taste of oyster, prawns and the rice is strange.
Not much comments about the spaghetti just that its oily and nothing special.
Atmosphere was rather good and service staffs there friendly, fast and commendable.
Just had our "dessert" here before our movie is dued. We bought Choco and Oreo Mash mellow, I had Strawberry Choco, Chocolate rice, blueberry flavours (Paisei I don't remember their names) Apart from the lack of facial expression crew, we love our yogurts~!
Definitely a change from the normal yogurt, mine was a refreshing and delicious blend of strawberry and chocolate fudge though a little too milky for me.
Dar's chocolate and oreo mash mellow was nice but a bit to the sour side.
Blueberry and chocolate rice are definite must try~!
We were wondering whether the yogurt is the same for all the flavors as I tasted them to be different but Claire said they tasted different because of the sides e.g strawberry sauce.

Went there for lunch after choir. The lunch set meal is really valued for money @ $14.90 with free flow of their famous mushroom soup.
Indeed the soup tasted great. The taste of the mushroom was thick but not too much. Tasted well even without addition of pepper.
Fish and Chip. Feedback was that it was tasteless though I felt that it was alright. But the size of the portion was too big and trying to finish it makes us uncomfortable.
Steak. Asked for the steak in medium well done but it came out medium rare instead. Taste was great if not for the done-ness of the steak.
Salmon (don't know what) Miso Spaget. It's Miso spaghetti was the best. Definitely the best tasting sauce that we've ever had for spaghetti. However, the salmon that came with it doesn't seem fresh and had an odd taste to it.
Service attitude was fine though there were only like 2 waitress for the restaurant, service was prompt because there were only 2 tables to be served.
Will definitely visit again as there are other interesting dishes to try.
Went here after dinner at P.S cafe. The place's deco is the same as the rest of the Party World. The only difference is the usage only and most Party World KTV has got very "used" deco and furnishing. (Except the branch at Taman Jurong).
Songs are also not in the review as we all know Party World has got a great selection of songs though I prefer Neway (Johor)....
Drinks seems rather dilute and of course the tidbits are in small portion (charged ok?). However the service attitude is quite good and crews are rather friendly and polite. Recently there seems to be a trend to have China crews compared to in the past. Still, their service is very good I must say. Just improve on the cleanliness of the toilet k?
