Was introduced to this cool ice-cream hangout by a close friend after lunch on a very hot day.
Ambience Simple set-up, in nice white and purple tones and an eclectic mix of stools, chairs and unusual tables. Great place for hanging out on a hot day, and we saw quite a few groups of young people chilling out here.
Menu On my first visit, I obviously did not have chance to try everything here (but I wish I had) which seems to revolve around ice-creams and ice-cream milkshakes. So tempted by the creative names and cutesy icons:
Agent Strawberry - tangy real strawberries Spooky Mocha - aromatic coffee beans with chocolate Pirate Queen Peach - juicy real peaches Litchi Otokonoko - refreshing lychee flavour Chocolate Truffle Castle - chocolate with chocolate bits Cerious Maple - maple syrup with crunchy maple cereals Vainilla Pot - simple & rich vanilla Grumbling Raisins - alcoholic rum with rum-soaked raisins Nutty Peanut Butler - smooth & creamy peanut butter with crunchy peanuts Sir Cookies & Cream - rich vanilla with good ole Oreo cookies
So thoughtful of them to have a smaller sampling size, so that you can try as many as your heart desires in one visit. Milkshakes come in mini ($3.60) and regular ($5.70) while ice-creams come in single scoop ($2.90) double ($5.10) triple ($7.20) pint ($10.50). Create your own sundae with toppings at 70 cents each!
Second outlet now open at *Scape. Visit website for more details!
Ambience Bustling restaurant although it's been open only recently. Staff were overwhelmed and unable to keep up with the crowds milling in. Service however when provided, was with an apologetic smile. Score points!
Food Interesting mix of Indian and Chinese seafood dishes, but we opted for the Chinese menu. Food was tasty, well-presented and in comfortable portions.
Braised Fish Head ($20) was a good sized portion, with snow peas, carrots, tofu, assorted mushrooms. Fish was fresh and meaty.
Mongolian Chicken ($10) tasted alright, was tender, but small portion for the price, and had an anaemic colour.
Broccoli with Mushrooms ($6) crunchy broccoli was well-paired with the texture of the Shiitake mushrooms.
Fish Maw Soup with Crabmeat ($8) per personal serve. Nice texture, not too runny or thick. Especially nice to eat cos it was very hot. A lot of ingredients.
Prawns Fried with Cereal ($18) about eight pieces of deshelled prawns tossed in very flavourful cereal with just the right amount of dried curry leaves and chilli padi. Prawns were fresh and firm to the bite.
Sri Lankan Crab with Salted Eggyolk ($40 per crab). Large, meaty crab which was a joy to tear apart and eat. The salted egg yolk gave the fleshy crab an added flavour without being overpowering.
We took advantage of the 50% food discount on weekdays (ala carte menu) which ends 30 June. But we'll be back soon for more!
I just discovered that this is one of the very very few fast food outlets open during a weekend at the Raffles Place area (the other is McDonalds at Boat Quay). Unfortunately, on the weekends (like today), it seems to be staffed by one counter staff - who takes orders, collects money, dishes fries, serves orders and cleans tables, all by himself - and one kitchen staff. Waited a long time to be served!
BK is great for the current Af4able meals which features single patty burgers with small fries and drink for $4.95 (with free Taro Pie). For a $1.50 upgrade, you can get the double patty version.
If, like me, you don't really need the fries, then you can order the Ham & Cheese Croissanwich with small Milo for only $3.95. The light fluffy croissant bun is so tasty and buttery, and the thin slice of ham adds just enough flavour to the burger. The Milo fills up whatever corner of your stomach is still hungry. Great value for low price!
Tonight, our family dinner was at Swenson's at Toa Payoh Entertainment Centre. To get there, we strolled from the bus interchange through TP Central, enjoying a pre-dinner walk in the cool evening.
Ambience One of the harder Swensons outlets to find, cos it's tucked away on the second floor of a building that doesn't have much foot traffic (most of the people are heading to the cinemas upstairs). So, it's not a very crowded outlet, and you have a sense of spaciousness.
Staff Swensons staff are generally younger adults and teens, so they are quite fresh and fun-loving. The staff here were very attentive, helpful and accommodating of our requests. Very good!
Food To be safe, we chose some familiar, some new dishes to try out tonight:
Mum wanted a light meal, so she opted for the Clam Chowder Soup ($7.90), a creamy soup with pieces of baby clams and vegetables, served in a sourdough breadbowl. Quite filling.
Dad wanted a healthy salad, so he ordered the Caesar Salad with Breaded Fish ($11.20) which had the crunch of fresh lettuces, and the flavour from the sliced fish pieces.
Meiz was adventurous and tried the Beef Goulash with Potato ($15.90) which unfortunately turned out to be bland and uninteresting. The beef had an overpowering spice taste and the mashed potato tasted a bit weird. Fortunately, she picked at Dad and Mum's choices.
I had the safest (tested and proven) meal, which was also the most unusual dinner choice. The All-Day Hearty Breakfast Set comprises a sunny-side egg, herb sausage, grilled tomato, chicken ham and hash brown, accompanied by creamy mushroom sauce and two thick French toasts. Included are a cup of juice (apple or orange) and a hot beverage (coffee or tea).
Noticed a Wagyu Beef promotion going on, perhaps we'd come back for it another time. We did get a scratch-and-win card and won a free 1-for-1 sundae for our next visit!
Stumbled across this outlet while we were driving around Geylang around midnight looking for a late-night supper.
Location Conveniently located 5 mins walk from Aljunied MRT Station (EW9) and if you are driving, there is a large carpark located just before the restaurant.
Ambience and Staff Nice large coffeeshop which resembles a HongKong coffeeshop, with staff bustling around, and large steamers puffing just inside the entrance. Authentic dimsum environment. Could see families, couples and friends sitting down enjoying their food and chatting.
Mainly older aunties working, very cheerful, helpful, eager to please. Good to see them employing older workers.
Food Good range of dimsum faves at reasonable prices and pretty generous portions. For a light supper, we had:
Har Gao (虾饺) $3.00 Century Egg Porridge (皮蛋粥) $3.50 Charsiew Chee Cheong Fun (猪肠粉) $3.50 Beancurd Skin Rolls (腐皮卷) $3.00
Seems like their soya milk is quite popular, although we opted for hot tea instead.
