A great place to get your Chinese food fix in Sunset Way.

Cafe d'Orient has great food to match with its beautiful decor. I especially like their Bamboo Chicken rice which is moist and fragrant and in a appropriate portion. Their set meals are also another good for value choice. Do try out their Set C which consists of :

    -Salad Prawns
(Prawns with Mayo, Mango & Honeydew, light and yummy!)
-Fish Fillet in Garlic Sauce (Great serving, fish was crispy and gravy was light and fragrant)
    - Ee Fu Noodles
(Moist and generous in crabmee and egg)
-Ice Cream (Vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup)
    - Drinks

Total cost only $26.80 and portion are good enough to keep you full till and satisified.

Service is also great and I love the Cantonese songs they play, gets you in the whole HongKong eatery mood....

Kia Hiang is featured in MakanSutra and had quite some good reviews over the internet. So, when I was looking to pick a place for my colleague's farewell dinner, I chose this place with expectations.

Booked a table for 8 at their Kim Tian branch yesterday night. Here are my reviews of the place :

      Location
Quite near to Tiong Bahru Plaza, apparently, many of my colleagues had went there before and had so we didnt had a hard time getting to the place.

      Decor/Layout
The restaurant looks more like a storeroom than a restaurant with boxes, chairs stacked up at the corner and whole place looks rather neglected. As they were busy making mooncakes for the festival, mooncake boxes can be seen laying around at the corner of the restaurant. It was a painful sight to see.

      Food
We took the Super Value Ala-Carte Set at $29.80 for each pax and for the group of 8, we get to order 10 dishes off the menu and ordered:
      1. Shark's Fin (didnt try, can't comment)
      2. Fried Prawns in Mango Cream ( this was crispy and not overly sweet)
      3. Garoupa Fillet with Wasabi (Normal, fish was rather hard due to being fried)
      4. Claypot Chicken (This is their speciality, didnt dissapoint - chicken was tender and gravy was great!)
5.Suckling Pig Platter (Normal average Suckling pig, Roasted Duck and Braised Chicken)
      6. Peking Duck ( not great, Egg crepe was a little too thick and skin was a little dry. Duck meat was later cooked in Black Pepper and was very hard to chew)
      7. Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Oatmeal (Great at the beginning but gets tired of it towards the end)
      8. Gui Fei Beancurd (Another speciality-Was soft and Mushroom which goes along was also not too chewy)
      9. Wolfberries with Kailan (Normal, Kailan was abit bitter)
      10. Dessert- Yam Paste (not a fan of Yam, so didnt really enjoy it. It was not smooth enough)

I heard my colleagues saying that the standard has dropped. But they commented that their Dim Sum is worth a try. So if you're looking for somewhere for your Cantonese-fix, you might like to try the branch at International Plaza instead, maybe they'll be better, in terms of food and decor.

Decided to check out this place after seeing so many positive reviews.

I was there with 2 of my friends for a makan and chill-out session and this place didnt dissapoint. Location-wise : It was very near to Bugis Junction and easy to get there. When we reached there at about 8pm, the place was quiet with only 1 or 2 other customers.

We took the "floor seats" on the upper level and the place was cozy & comfy. Perhaps it was a Wed night with not many customers, the whole place was quiet and peaceful and made us really felt at ease and we can chat to our hearts and laugh out loud without having to worry about people staring at us. There was also games, magazines and nice music to keep you entertained. We played scrabble and had lotsa fun there! Service was also good and the staff there leaves you alone most of the time, which is perfect when you just wanted to chit chat with your pals without having to worry that you must exit immediately after finishing your meal like some other cafes/restaurants.

Food-wise, my friends and I tried the 3 Chef Recommended main courses : Honey Citrus Chicken, Tangy BBQ Chicken and Fish & Chips. I personally like the Honey chicken for it's crisp and sweetness. Tangy BBQ Chix was a little too "wet" for my liking and the F&C was a bit bland and could do better with a little more flavour. We also had the Choc Lava Cake with vanilla ice-cream and Apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream. Like candice mentioned in the first review, Lava cake will do better if it's warmer and "oozier", it was a little hard and sweet for my liking. Apple crumble was not too bad, but I m not a fan of Apple Crumble but my friend totally loves it.

Drinks-wise, we ordered the Choconana Frappe, Cappucino Borgia Milkshake and pot of camomile tea. My Frappe was a fine, but perhaps I was having too much chocolate that night, I was having a hard time digesting all of the chocolate.

Total bill came up to $83.15, $27 each for the 3 pax of us. And we sat there till their closing at about 11.30pm. Definitely a great place to check out ! They also offer free WiFi and also a great place for organization of parties and events!

This shop is located right next to the toilet in Basement 1 of Anchorpoint. It's a small shop but if you're willing to go in and check it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find alot of interesting and new books available.

From the look from outside the shop, I had expected the prices for the books to be high. However, it was surprising to find that their rental rates are comparable to popular bookshops, and the prices for the sale of books are even cheaper than what's offered outside. I simply love the fact that new books arrived every weekend, and true enough, you can find most of the newer books available in here. I rented my first book, How Starbucks changed my Life for $6-$8 (I can't remember) and bought my second book, Dewey at $16 where Popular and Kino is selling at >$20. The rental basis works exactly like the existing bookstores and the period is 1 month. Books are all in excellent condition and staff are mostly friendly. A good place to check out when you're hit by a reading bug the next time!

I first came across this shop earlier this year. It was a small shop well hidden at a corner in Central Mall.. I was attracted to the cute shirt top the mannequin was wearing and went in to check out the items.. It was a shop selling adorable prints shirts. I bought a Peter-pan white shirt with mini flowers all over. I received alot of praises for the top and I went back to get another 2 more shirts with diff designs.
The shirts are very unique pieces, which is very important now that almost any other person on the road could be wearing " the same top or dress you bought from this blogshop". The owner is a lovely and friendly lady. The prices are also considered reasonable, about $29.90 per piece, and the material is good.
Great place to check out the next time you're getting bored from the usual Orchard..
