Beginning in 1998, Awfully Chocolate brought a concept and slowly but surely, turned a simple idea into a region spanning franchise. One of its founders, Stella Huang, is a resident Singaporean celebrity who sang and acted in various sitcoms during her university days earn "some" pocket money. The result of a simple concept and limited selection of items is what you get from Awfully Chocolate.

I guess this franchise is proof that a simple idea can blossom and spread with a good amount of financial backing and some really tasty chocolate.

Ice Cream: This is the first time i tried their ice cream and it was smooth. Despite the extremely thick chocolate its made of, the bitterness was mild. It also had just the right amount of sweetness to push you towards the next mouthful. However, i can't help noticing that the ice cream has a taste very much familiar to extremely thick Milo concentrate. Not to say its a bad thing, but its an observation.
My two cents? Reasonably good enough to stand on its own, but more then a few mouthfuls and be prepared to call in sick the next day.

Cake: I've tried a slice of their cake before and its rich, slightly fluffy and easily messy to enjoy. The fudge is smooth and moderately sweet which once again, gives it a balanced taste. I felt it was pretty similar to 3 other cakes i've had before though. Lana's cake shop, Choc-a-bloc and even Secret recipe. I think its a fair comparison since they all belong to the moist chocolate fudge category. The difference is mostly on the ratio of chocolate to sponge and Awfully Chocolate's version has most in common with Lana's version, albeit having a thicker fudge layer in the middle and on its coverings. Whether you like it or not depends on how much you like chocolate.

I like chocolate and this is definitely pretty good for both the ice cream and the chocolate cake. I also like the attitude of the founders for their arrogance and daring in sticking to this concept but honestly, there are lots of chocolate cakes around. And when the differentiation factor is not as apparent, its less of a draw to return. Still, give this a try if you have not tried it yet.

As it was one of my lunch partner Catherine's birthday, the rest of us were thinking what flavour of cake to buy for her? So, we decide to buy her Awfully Chocolate cake and heading down to Katong Mall along the east coast road.

The shop is open by Stella Huang Xiang Yi a singer from Singapore.

The shop desgin is all in white colour, with a few simple white tables and chairs. even the staff also dress in white too. It is a typical store. You weren't get to see the cakes at the counter, just let the staff know which are the flavour you want and they will bring out for you and they don't sell cake in slices too.

There is only 3 flavours of cakes for you to choose. The 3 flavours are All Chocolate, Banana Chocolate and Chocolate Rum & Cherry. We choose All chocolate cake $25.80, size 6"

The chocolate cake is fill with original dark chocolate and dark chocolate fudge. The cake is soft and not too sweet, it was just nice, overall it was a good choice as all of us love the cake. Awfully chocolate sell chocolate ice-cream too. Do check out from their store to try their premium dark chcolate ice-cream.

I am a self declared chocolate addict, so whatever food that has chocolate in it, i will defintely love that, including milo. ha. With me so into chocolate, how can i miss this shop?

Awfully Chocolate may sound like the chocolate cake that they are selling are awful. ha. But one will never know unless they have tried it themselves. Yeah. So one fine day, i decide to just give it a try.

My very first step into the shop makes me wonder if im really in the correct place. This place has not big fridge with all the fancy cakes in it as you will find it in those typical cake shop. Funny.

Initially, i want to test out one slice of the cake, since its my first time visiting their cake shop. To my surprise, they actually do not sell their cake in slices. Instead, you have to buy the entire round cake before you can try out the taste.

There are basically 3 different flavours to choose from -- all chocolate, chocolate banana and chocolate rum and raisin. The appearance of their cakes is simple. No beautiful decoration. What you get to see its chocolate and chocolate among the layers of chocolate sponge cake.

Having seen soo much chocolate on the cake, i wonder if it will make one feel sick of chocolate. To my surprise, i did not feel sick after eating 2 slices of it. In fact, i can eat more if theres any left for me. ha.

Overall, it is a chocolate with quality. They use really good and whole lots of chocolates in their cakes which i think its really worth the price paid. Go on try it and one cake is definitely not enough.
