not sure when it started but a surge of ice cream parlors hv sprouted out everywhere out of a sudden. previously i don't think i even seen much places serving ice cream except for swensens or maybe, haagen dazs. then i started hearing & reading about ben & jerry's, island creamery, tom's palette, udders, icekimo, haato, the ice cream gallery, marvelous cream, azabu sabo hokkaido ice cream etc. just too many! and thats not inclusive of the gelato counters littered all over the malls.

situated at the arcade, sunset way is a quaint little ice cream parlor decked in all-white. its very small and cosy but the ambience didn't looked half as bad! in fact i would hv liked it more if it wasnt so crowded. there were just lotsa youngsters eagerly queuing up for ice creams! the above pic shows a colorful wall mural. i loved it.

since we were really full from dinner, we just ordered 2 flavors to share. the butterscotch & pecan, which is old-fashion butterscotch ice cream sprinkled with freshly toasted pecans was quite good. since i'm crazy over salted caramel-anything, this flavor appealed to me since it has a nice sweet salty & buttery fragrance.

the lychee martini was a disappointment tho'. i could hardly taste any lychee nor vodka in there. i guess when i had the best lychee martini at new asia bar, my benchmark for this drink/dessert has inevitably became much higher. but at least the one from seventh heaven was really good. it has the distinct lychee liqueur taste, so did the modern tarte lychee from coffee club.

while ice cream is something i love having, i won't specially travel to a place just to eat it since its not a dessert that satisfies me (unless it goes atop a nice waffle or served ala japanese parfait style). but i'll definitely go back to try the other funky flavors like wasabi mango, chilli choc and avocado ice cream if i'm nearby.

So they say that Sunset Way is something like Holland Village. It's less packed with people and there aren't that many shops around (or it could be that I was there at night). But snooping further down the road, into what seems to be a rather ulu area, you'll find The Daily Scoop.

Yeah, there's Island Creamery, Ben's & Jerry's and Haagen Daz. What's so different about The Daily Scoop?

The first time we went there, it was about 9ish and they were cleaning and packing up for the day. We didn't think there'd be any ice cream left and were kinda disheartened that our only dessert reprieve was done for the day.

      BUT THEN!

One of the serving crew popped out of their delivery van and took note of our sad puppy-dog-like faces staring into the shop from outside and told us that we could still get ourselves a cone. As long as we weren't dining in.

The two ice-cream monsters each got a Kooky Monster and Strawberry sorbet.

It's heavenly I tell you. I couldn't keep slurping my ice cream. It was chocolatey, gooey and crunchy all mixed in together. The strawberry sorbet was sweet and tart, whatever they had mixed inside, it was a pretty darn good combination.

The next time round when we went there, we had a waffle and a brownie each. Piping hot waffle, you could smell the sweeeeeet sweet mixture as they prepared it and later served it hot and fresh with a dollop of ice cream (which I can't remember since it wasn't me eating it). I had the brownie. Warm and all nicely gooey inside to go with the thick chocolate ice cream I'd requested.

Iced water is free, comes in small cups and you'll have to pour it yourself. The serving crew were really nice, friendly and patient people who handled our childlike curiosity at trying out almost all of the flavours (they have chilli ice cream lor! who eats chilli ice cream?! chilli is like... for sambal prawns and fishball noodles!)!

Thanks a lot guys! You all really rock!

P.S After you're done with your ice cream, go and explore the Cold Storage in the same building. They've got a lot of pretty nifty stuff and especially cereal brands that I can't seem to find in the one that's near my house. Hmm...

Living across the island from the Daily Scoop, its great that they have a free home delivery service every Tuesday, with $50 orders.

Have been ordering from them ever since.

My favourite flavour is the Lychee Martini & the Sunny Strawberry. The Lychee Martini is a mixture of lychee with creamy ice cream. Their ice cream is rather hard and not so sweet. Simply heavenly. $8.80 each tub. :)

Tucked in a remote place in Clementi Arcade, beside the getting-popular Sunset way is The Daily Scoop. Local ice-cream cafe has been on the rise, think Island Creamery, ice cream chef, haato ice cream gallary, scoopz and a few others.

While there is the plain normal ice cream like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookie & cream etc, there is the long list of new creations available at local ice cream parlours

Brandied Figs & honey: Absolute decadence sweet ligs steeped in brandy mixed into a fragrant honey ice cream

Unusually Apple: Chunky pieces of soft spiced apple with a hint of cinnamon in vanilla ice cream

Sensual Tiramisu: prepare to be enamored. captivated. enchanted

Jaffa Choc: orange marmalade ice cream jazzed up with a generous spread of dark citrus chocolate fudge

Lime & Black Pepper: packs a real punch! First with tangy lime then with spicy pepper

Orange Marmalade: tangy orange ice cream with swirled in marmalade

        Hazelnut Haven - a must-have for Nutella© fans

Kahlua® Krunch: coffee ice cream with a more than generous dash of Kahlua®

Arghh.. and the list goes on and on. Go to their website for the whole list

Brandied Figs & honey (left), Hazelnut Haven (right)

Single scoop comes at $2.90, and double scoop at $4.90. So if you do your maths correctly, the double scoop seems a better option. Brandied Figs & honey is a new try for us, not sure if it goes very well with us, but mayb brandy lovers might just get it.

Hazelnut Haven was very good, i simply love Nutella. A must-have everytime i went to ice-cream parlour.

Lime & Black Pepper (left), Orange Marmalade (right)

Lime & Black Pepper may seems a weird combination. On first taste, the lime was rather refreshing, but after a while, the pepper feeling sinks in.

Orange Marmalade was a correct choice, tangy orange ice cream with swirled in marmalade. Try for yourself!

Oh ya, beside Daily Scoop at Clementi Arcade is Bather’s cafe, a place i always wanted to go but no opportunity. Next time then, watch out for it.

I'm surprised this hasn't got a review yet.

If I were to describe it in one word, it'll be 'fantastic'! The flavours are really unique and yet wonderful. By far, I've found the Lime and Black Pepper flavour the most intriguing, but then again I haven't tried all the flavours.

A downside is the remote location. Unless you have your own private transport, it will take quite some time to get to this place since the nearest bus stop is almost 1km away.

Nevertheless, this place offers one of the best variety of ice-cream for its price. I'd choose this place over Island Creamery for the taste any day. (not ambience though)
