5 Reviews for “Kinokuniya (Bugis Junction)” - Shopping
I came to the Kinokuniya at Bugis Junction, looking for some interesting self-improvement or non-fiction books since I have some vouchers for Kinokuniya which I could use, but I didn't find anything to my liking at this outlet. The Kinokuniya outlet at Bugis Junction is quite small compared to the one at Ngee Ann City/ Takashimaya, so the selection and variety is quite limited too. Also the place is quite crammed and the shelves are quite close together, so if people want to go pass you, you'll have to make way for them. But even though it does not have that wide variety of books compared to the Ngee Ann City outlet, I think you'll be able to get some best sellers or comics or magazines you need here. So if you need to grab some popular books, you should still be able to get them here. If not, the Ngee Ann City outlet is a better choice.

Frankly, i would prefer Ngee Ann City's Kinokuniya as compared to this on at bugis.
This branch is not as well-stocked and the major thing i don't like about thisbook store is that it is seriously too crammed. Especially between the shelves, when i am browsing through some books and another person wants to get pass me, i'll have to lean against the side and let him/her squeeze through. The best-seller section is also quite messy as well with all the books stacked up all together.
I feel that they should improve on their organisation of the store as well as make it more spacious.

I think this bookstore is a bit too cramped for people(during peak hour) to stand there and read the materials. The shelves are located too close to each other. Hence, one may need to edge and squeeze when going fro one place to another. However, there is a large variety of books available there. though not as huge as that at orchard road. The staff there can be unfriendly and curt at times especially during peak hours and when they are busy.

Please answer the following questions.
Do you look for a relatively small bookshop in the midst of a huge shopping complex that carries much more entertainment such as eating, shopping and watching movies? Yes / No
Do you actually feel happy when you see the bookshop? Yes / No
Do you feel that it is important to have a bookshop in a midst of a youth-orientated mall? Yes / No
If you answered "Yes" to all the questions above, congratulations, you are a certified nerd!
Oh no! I answered yes to all three questions!(Okay, I know this is lame.) The truth is I do really like the existence of Kinokuniya in Bugis Junction despite it not being comparable to its bigger counterparts, especially the one in Takashimaya. I feel that it is refreshing to find a bookstore in a shopping mall that cater specifically to the younger generation.
And despite its small size, Kinokuniya did not think of it as simply just a constraint, instead it used it to its advantage. Located in a youth-orientated mall, its books are also more youth-orientated. We can easily find Japanese manga and idol magazine; Mandarin idol books and magazines and English bestsellers which are placed in more conspicuous places that would attract youngsters.
The plus factor of Kinokuniya staff being always polite and eager to help find a book also enhanced the experience of shopping at Kinokuniya!
Hence, in spite of its smaller scale and lesser books, I think it is enough to cater to the youngsters who perhaps would have lesser usage for the reference books and it would also inspire the youngsters to read more for leisure instead of just for school.
I believe it is at the right place in the right size!

Compared to Taka's Kino, this place is pretty small. The things you can find there are limited to only reading materials, unlike those at Kino. It's good enough for someone who's out looking for just books to read during your leisure time. But if you're looking for more reference materials on interior designing and such, Kinokuniya at Takashimaya is better.
