went for the student's buffet, paid $56 for 3 people (:
some hits and misses, mostly hits! i'll just share some things that i enjoyed.
1. salmon sashimi. ok this was obviously frozen before it arrived, but came in thick slabs and once it thawed properly, was yummy (:
2. takoyaki. i love the batter for this!
3. tempura squid. i usually dont like squid, but this is really good.
4. ebi fry. this is slightly above average. feel like im eating a fishcake-prawn mix rather than just prawn.
5. grilled shisamo! dip into wasabi-soy sauce and its heavenly!
6. fried salmon skin (conveyer belt), super crispy and great with mayo!
7. potato croquette, cant go wrong!
8. chuka hotate (seasoned scallop) and seasoned jellyfish. came with shredded cucumber which makes for a great appetizer. they forgot our seasoned seaweed though ):
9. grilled mushrooms. juicy shitake mushrooms with teriyaki sauce squirting out with each bite!!
came with dessert (ice cream) and drinks (wide variety!), i enjoyed this buffet v much, except that the waiters kept on forgetting our orders. and they didnt have prawn sashimi ):
I must say the marketing department of Nihon Mura did a great job for coming up with the 99 cents sushi. This is the very reason we tried this place. We can go to different Japanese restaurants but we were intrigued with their 99 cents sushi so even though we live quite far from Revenue House, we felt the urge to come and visit this place.
The place is busy and we have to wait for a little while. The staff are friendly although most of them were busy and we can see them walking around bringing orders and all to everyone. I felt a little dizzy. So if you're planning to eat here and you hate people walking around you, you may want to request a secluded place away from the walkway near the conveyor belt.
I love california maki so I took three plates from the conveyor belt. They are not excatly nicer than the makis I tried before but it's just 99cents/plate, so no need to worry.
My personal favourites from Nihon Mura are the grilled cherry tomatoes wrapped in bacon and iced green tea.
The tomatoes burst in your mouth which adds some excitement to the grilled bacon. The sweet iced green tea is served in a tall glass. Nice.
Went to try Nihon Mura - one of the newest sushi conveyer belt player in Singapore - Nihon Mura which happens to be a subsidiary of Suki Sushi!
I find the decoration is rather nice. It is rather spacious too as one would not have problem walking in the wide walking space. We were directed to a lucky table number, table number 88!! As it was our first visit to Nihon Mura, the waiter took some time to explain how Nihon Mura functions, there is no menu but one can walk around the restaurant and look at the display photos and price of the food, if interested you could take one of the marked ice-cream stick from the respective food and return to your table.
Placing the ice-cream sticks into the ice-cream stick holder, the waiters or waitresses will take your orders by taking over the marked ice-cream sticks. When your order is ready, the food would be served to your table by the waiters or waitresses. Quite innovative and troublesome to walk around. Nevertheless, you could still take your favorite sushi from the conveyer belt at $0.99 each! Woah, cheap but it seems that these sushi had been on the conveyer belt for quite some time, thus they are not really fresh but they do taste good!
When come to the food that we ordered via the ice-cream sticks, they were not bad lor, comparable to Sakae Sushi and Yuki Sushi, prices are close too but some item's price can be quite a huge difference.
It was yet another fulfilling dinner ..... sashimi yummy, wasabi shiok shiok!
I was introduced to this Japanese restaurant, Nihon Mura at Revenue House.
Part of the sister chain to Suki Group, who brought in Suki Sushi and Sakura, this new entrant is offering sushi dishes at 99 cents each.
It is made possible, according to their director, Mr Kelvin Ong, because their business strategy is to avoid malls, which are overflowing with other chains, and opt for less expensive venues in suburban areas to keep prices low.
However, despite offering cheap conveyor-belt sushi, the peeve is that none of the tables are located next to it; hence you have to walk over to help yourself to the sushi.
The restaurant also comprises of various sections including: Grills, Tempura, and Noodles, other than the Sushi - which is ready-made - all the other dishes are represented in placards placed in front of the stations, beside a batch of ice lolly sticks etched with the name of the dish.
Interestingly, to order, you collect the sticks of the dishes you want and hand them to a waiter with your table number, or simply drop these lolly sticks into a cup placed at your tables, and the waiter will collect it and take order.
With the amount of variety to choose from, the standard of the dishes were unexpectedly of a high standard.
Even the Sashimi were surprisingly fresh, so much so that we had a second order of the Akagai, or the Red Shell Fish, which is bigger version of what we commonly known as Cockles. The meat was so sweet and the texture was firm.
The other dish I enjoyed was the Salmon Belly Soup. A bowl of piping hot soup served in a ceramic pot with generous serving of vegetables and chunky pieces of Salmon Belly Meat was such a delight that we ordered a second serving as well.
For a lunch of 7 adults and 1 child, the whole meal was $220, which worked out to be slightly over $30 per person. My overall verdict is that for the price we are paying, all the dishes are pretty good. The only regret is that as most dishes are served at one go, such that some of the turned cold before we could have a chance to sample it. Nevertheless, this is definitely a good place to go for family gatherings and friends reunion dinner.

This place sells sushi for 99 cents per plate. The taste is not fantastic but ITS CHEAP.
There are also a wide variety of food. Their raw salmon are very fresh and very big piece too. The way of ordering are very interesting. There are no menu, and you have to go to the counter and take "ice-cream" sticks and place your orders.
