4 Reviews for “Ya Kun Kaya Toast (Lot 1)” - Food and Beverages
The usual toast, coffee or tea. And it cost $
more than $3 per set. Some may find the price quite high for a normal breakfast.
The kaya toast tastes like the usual ones you can find in coffee shop, just that at ya kun, you get to enjoy it air-conditioned.
But i must say the half-boiled egg at ya kun is a lot nicer than those you eat in coffee shop. For one, you don't have to crack it yourself - they do it for you. And it is done to near perfection.
One thing in particular i like is the barley drink with fu shou(silkyz barley). Trust me, it's a must try.

I remember going to Ya Kun at Takashimaya and seriously, I am a coffee addict by nature. So imagine my surprise when my special order of kopi di lo (coffee straight, no water added) actually taste like coffee. How should I put it? If you are a true coffee drinker, you can tell by the taste of the coffee whether any water has been added to it or not. Wang Jiao on the other hand SUCK BALLS! It's as if the older folk pretended not to understand kopi lingo when I ordered my coffee from them. Ya Kun is definitely my choice when it comes to coffee!!

Ya Kun Kaya Toast has always been me and my mother's favourite place to have a cup of hot brewed coffee and toast. Luckily for us, especially for my mum, there is 1 yakun franchise outlet located at lot 1. She would always, without fail, have a cup of coffee before heading to her work place.
Normally, I would order a cheezy french toast set which comprises of piping hot, aromatic Hainanese coffee, crispy cheezy french toast and 2 soft-boiled eggs. My mum would just order 1 cup of coffee and we would share the food together.
I would say, the Hainanese coffee is definitely nice. It is not too sweet. When it is hotly served to us, we could smell the aroma which diffused into the air. As I am a cheese-lover, the cheezy french toast tastes just great to me. As the toast is charcoal grilled, it is rather crispy.
The outlet is air-conditioned with traditional tables and chairs and displayed pictures which are hanged onto the wall. A comfortable place to have a sip of coffee. Of course, during peak hours, the place is rather packed and one may have to wait for empty seats available.
The prices there are definitely slightly higher compared to those sold in coffee shops and hawker centres. The staff over there are rather friendly and polite too.

But really pissed with price hike
First of all, I really like the food from the Ya Kun fanchise. It is probably the only franchise that is consistent in the quality of food. Set A always makes my day with the soft-boiled eggs always done up perfectly by the server along with the crispy, wafer-thin toast and the aromatic Hainanese coffee.
And I want to share the way I have them. Though it may irk some readers, I find that I enjoy Set A the best this way.
Step 1:
Break one yolk of the sof-boiled eggs and mix with the rest of the egg whites.
Add pepper and dark soy sauce to taste.
Step 2:
Dip the kaya toast in the soft-boiled eggs before eating.
Step 3:
Sip some coffee. Then have the items on their own.
Step 4:
Add some coffee to the second egg yolk to rinse the saucer of the egg clinging to the surface.
Step 5:
Slurp the coffee and egg yolk down in one fluid motion.
But to end this entry, I must complain!
The price hike just sucks and the press release just looked like a templated write-up with vague excuses. And now that Set A costs 20 cents more, I will patronize it less often.
