Initially, I took ANA purely for the fact that the price is cheaper than JAL and have fewer restrictions on flight changes. But after the return trip to Sapporo (Hokkaido) via Tokyo, my impression of ANA is now very good.
On the flight out of Singapore, I was a bit annoyed when I saw a catalog onboard that says that they serve instant noodle and rice balls etc, at a small fee. Later when I saw an air stewardess serve a small bottle of red wine (around 300ml) to another passenger, I thus thought that it would be at a fee. But apparently it is not. For this (the small bottle), I thought it was a better touch to the heart than SQ where they serve from the big bottle. But of course, the small bottles also meant that it is a specially-bottled drink, which may (or may not) be of a lower quality than the big bottles.
On the flight out of Tokyo Narita Airport, I was quite touched when I saw that the dessert was a small cake that says “Merry Christmas” – it was Christmas Eve when I board the plane. And the onboard entertainment displayed “Happy Holidays” at the end, when we were waiting to get off the plane.
But I must say that their onboard entertainment selection list is not as good as SQ, but still better than certain airlines where I am forced to watch through the whole movie without pause, rewind and forward.
