Situated in Joo Chiat, Chilli Padi has its own crowd of followers for Peranakan Food. The Ayam Bua Keluak and Babi Pong Teh are just fantastically homely. Just the right taste and aroma. With the gravy, you just seem to consume plate after plate of rice. Ambience is cosy and can be a bit brighter. Come early to avoid the dinner crowd.

A walk back in time to see how the prisoners of war lived during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore in 1942-1945.

Reminds you of the brevity of life and the folly of war, especially in the way humans treat one another; all because of the ambitions of a single person in power.

If you would like a audio narration/ tour, the fee is S$8.00. You will receive a portable audio set to explain the exhibits as you go along.

Sometimes it is good to reflect on what happened in the past so that you can appreciate the present better. Another sombre thought is that all the men and women who died in the war is now mostly forgotten by many of us today. The well preserved identity cards and letters they wrote makes it all seem like it just happened recently. And to think that it was close to 60 years ago that they faced the ordeal. Much reflection to be done here.

Setup by a Taiwanese family, here is where you can get authentic Taiwanese food like the Taiwan Beef noodle and Chou Tofu (臭豆腐) - Smelly Bean Curd. However, we did not find the Chou Tofu smelly enough. It could have been more smelly!!! But anyway it was tasty. The fried pork chop rice is also a good try.

Location : On Joo Chiat Road, the parking might present a problem. Can park at the huge car park about 10 min walk away. Do not ever try to park at the private car park just opposite the stall. Might just have to pay $100 to get the wheel clamp removed. Weekday crowd is not to huge so you can enjoy a relaxing meal there.

There are some shops where you feel like you are invisible, it seems like no one notices your presence. At John 3:16, you know you exist! Getting the attention of the staff there is easy as just walking up to them with your enquiries, no matter how busy they are. They seem to be able to multi task well.

Price wise, it is not the lowest around but at least they have stock. Been to a shop nearby and was quoted a hard to resist price, but they have no stock, so it was as good as that.

Their sales staffs are also not intimidating. You can take your time to look around and decide on what suits you best. No worries if you do decide to think about it and come back again to make the purchase. They will be on hand to serve you. At least that was my experience.

Their huge paper selection just makes you want to buy all the paper they have. With their wide selection of paper, you can really take a long time to decide which fits best to what you need. Your creative juices just keep flowing, and all of a sudden you have so many ideas with the different designs that you see. So I ended up buying more than I originally planned.

Would certainly go back to get more paper for my backdrops and gifts packaging.
