    21. Courts Megastore

I had high expectations when I heard that Courts opened up their megastore in Tampines. (just right beside Ikea and Giant). So, bugged my hubby to check it out.

Lo and behold was I utterly disappointed. Although it's few storey high, I find that the selection is still limited especially the furniture section. Ok, electronics were still not that bad. They had computer and digicams which I was there to check out. But the furniture section was simply a letdown.

I was expecting since it was their largest megastore and couple of storey highs, they could do better in terms of variety like their neighbour IKEA.

At the lowest level, they had the bargain section where the items are going at good price - ok, this is positive cos I got my eletric kettle at haf the price :)

Overall, to me, the megastore is jus another courts store that we get in other places like in Causeway point. Well, I may be wrong but that's the feeling I got.

Went there recently in celebration of my last day at work with a group of colleagues during lunch.

Most of us had the Executive Lunch which comprises of :
      a) soup of the day - tat day it was cream of corn which was rather diluted. Didnt enjoy it

      b) Main course - we had fish and chips, baked rice, pasta.
I personally shared a set lunch (macaroni cream cheese) and ordered another ala carte dish THe sourdough chicken sandwich. The macaroni cream cheese was yummy.... but to eat alone may be too jelak. So, thats why I shared it with my colleague. And I love the sourdough chicken too.. juicy. Thumbs up to these two dishes.

      c) Desserts - so called their signature desserts errr which was rather disappointing that day cos I was expecting a scoop of ice cream with a flaky pastry. I had that the other time I went to Swensen's Bishan. This time round it was merely ice cream mooncake (pandan). The size is not exactly like our typical mooncake, but much smaller. And even worse, I felt that they were miserly by giving us only HALF.

      d) Drinks - soft drinks or coffee/tea. For ice lemon tea, have to top up 2 bucks.

All these for the price of the main course. WEll, alright, it was still value for money.

THey just revamped their menu and now carrying with more variety.

But I still like their old specialties.

      a) Tom yam seafood with glass noodles.
-Looks clear but they are really spicy to my liking. Remeber to quickly savour it cos once it turns cold, its not that nice.

      b) Basil beef

      c) Coconut ice-cream with fried banana fritter

      d) Thai pineapple rice

      e) Thai Fried squid

      f) Thai stuffed chicken wings

      g) Black pepper cray fish glass noodles.

SErvice is good and we never fail to patronise the place at least once every month.

Been to few Sushi Teis, I find the one in Thomson Plaza most inviting with cosy ambience, quiet and good service.

Food wise - its really yummy!

        My recommendations always:

        - Golden roll (sushi with eel and avacado)
        - Fried Salmon skin
        - Garlic Fried rice
        - Sashimi platter (i took the one with sea urchin) - really fresh!
        - Fried salmon with cheese
        - Seasonal pasta (black squid)
        - Seasonal pasta (crayfish cream)

        Desserts
        - Coffee Balls
        - Sesame Ice cream

        Overall - a restaurant that I recommend.

This place cries out Beads! Ha ha..

I am into jewellery making recently so a friend of mine recommended this place to buy the raw materials ie crystal beads.

They have a wide selection of Swaroski crystals of various sizes and cut and colors. Besides that, they also sells the other items like the wire, glass beads, jewelry making accessories (board, clippers, pliers, etc). and books. Anyway, a place to go to if you are thinking of making crystal accessories on your own.

Their service staff is very friendly and if you are keen to know how to do certain jewelry on display - they are always happy to help you with it.

They have this card stamp system; where you can accumulate stamp and redeem for gifts.
