Went to Botak jones for dinner and as always the queue is long. My wife had fish and chips while I order their Botak Burger. And I would say the food was ok. Normal western food but the price was not. For a coffee shop food, its price was definitely not cheap. But its portion is large and I mean... REALLY LARGE. So for those small eater, 2 to 1 main dish should be good enough.

About the food, noththing much hype about that. Just that they serve different sauce in bottle for different food. And the best is for fish and chips, they have this malt vinegar which added a new dimension to the typical fish and chips I have had so far.

Service was so so and of course, ambience is not that condusive for a good dinning experience.

My friends and I went to Botak Jones not long ago.

The location was quite bad, in the sense that it was quite far off the Interchange (you probably need 15 mins to get thr from the Interchange). It's a warm afternoon and after walking under the hot sun, seeing the non-air-conditioned coffeeshop is actually quite a turn off.

We had fish and chips and all of us agreed that Botak Jones is over-rated. The dish tasted like usual ones and there isn't a special reason why we have to come all the way to this coffeeshop to eat their Fish and Chips. The servings were big though and we think it's worth it for the price.

On the whole, all of us think that though the price was ok, we could have a better meal as Aston Katong (because of the ambience) / Aston Bedok (because it's nearer to the Interchange) instead.

It was a normal weekday lunch and my colleagues and boss decided to go out for a simple lunch. I suggested Botak Jones just because it was nearby and i've yet to try the branch in Bedok.

However, that proved to be a big boo boo in many ways.

First of all, my Botak Burger was hilariously small, came with no cheese and minimal fries and basically was a joke to look at. Then the burger itself, meaning the beef patty was mashed badly and cooked badly as well. Resulting in a overly dried, grass like tasting beef patty that simply isn't what i expected. The fries were alright but definitely alot lesser then when i had the same thing in the AMK branch.

My boss and colleagues seperately had cajun chicken and fish and chips which were all the same in one way. They all shrank. I don't know if its a sign of times that they've cut down on fries and ingredients in their food but for me, since i've eaten at the original branch before, this is just not acceptable.

If the boss is reading, this is where you should visit for a re education on what the franchise is about. No offense.

This was my first time trying Botak Jones.

          We had the
          - Fish & Chips
          - Cajun Chicken
          - Beef sausage
          - Cheese Burger

The Fish & Chips came with the fries & the coleslaw. The fish was breaded. Ultra thin slices. They were not even full slices. Feels like regular dory sliced laterally. Too thin to feel the texture or even taste anything. Fries were quite normal.. not exactly hot. The tar tar sauce tasted very rich. Too rich & seems like a lot of garlic in it. Didn't use much of that. Generally a disappointing dish. (I must say that Aston's did a much better job on this)

The Cajun Chicken was huge. The top coat was fully covered with mix of sauce & cheese. When you slice it down, it seems to be 2 slices joined together cos it sort of fell apart. I was surprised that its chicken breast. It wasn't totally dry. But I shd say that its fairly successfully cooked chicken breast.

The Beef sausage was the first dish to arrive. We liked the onions that came with it. Like what it is described, it snaps when you slice it. We ordered this as a whole, on its own (told them not to slice it). However, I had to constantly spit out the skin (pork casing). Not too saltish as a whole.

The Cheese Burger looks pretty good. I tasted the patty, it was quite tasty. My friend asked for more fries.. but the amount of fries looked the same as our other 2 dishes.

I personally do not like the coleslaw from Botak Jones. I think they used way too much mayonaise. Very sick of it after a short while. I much preferred what Astons did.

Think because of the amount we ordered, we were Very Full after the meal. I will not have the Fish & Chips again. Its very disappointing. Ultra thin slices.

When we got there at around 5 pm, there was already quite a number of people eating. Every single table ordered from botak jones. Quite sad really. The rest of the stalls did not have much business other than the drink stall.

            We ordered:
            - caesar salad (the dressing tasted weird. it has this fishy taste that we didn't like)
            - fish and chips (i liked that their tar tar sauce was homemade. different from the normal ones we usually eat)
            - botak burger
            - cajun chicken

I had the botak burger ($5.50) which looked small but after eating half of it, I was already full. The beef patty was rather tasteless so i ate it with chilli sauce. The fries were pretty good though. Not soggy and seasoned well.

I guess the price is worth it for their huge servings but in terms of taste and quality of food, not really...

Saw a couple of people eating the U-CRAZY-WHAT burger and it looked freaking insane. I think it is enough to feed me for the entire day.

Botak Jones (Bedok) - Eating Places

After hearing soooo much about Botak Jones at AMK (yes there are other outlets, which I only knew of TODAY), I was delighted to hear that there's one at Bedok! ie, very near me (; And so, dragging along a food-enthusiast like myself, we headed down as soon as we could, with much anticipation.

It was almost 2pm by the time we got there. All right, face it, I was disappointed because I thought we'd be seeing a little shop instead of that-stall-at-the-food-court-under-that-block. But that seems to be the trend, somehow. If you heard of, there's Blackboard doing that too.

So anyway, we got a menu each and sat down, trying to decide on what to eat. I must say BJ is trying hard to sound/look cool, but they're trying a little too hard. What with the "dawg"s in the menu and short narratives in Comic Sans, font size 14 words, it was really an eye sore for me. All that effort put in to inject that little bit of "humour" into the menu could have been converted to beautifying the menu which reminds my friend of our school's lecture notes, mistreated.

Eventually, I ordered a Cajun Chicken - supposedly the 2nd most popular meal. It came with a generous portion of Spicy Fries and Coleslaw. To be honest, I didn't quite like the idea of eating from a black plate as it felt as though the plate could have been dirty (but you'll never know). The chicken had a layer of melted cheese and cajun sauce. I thought the portion of the meat was reasonable, only that it was a tad too dry. But it went pretty well with the cheese and sauce, only that I thought they could drizzle more sauce on the chicken (isn't that why it's Cajun chicken?). The coleslaw had a weird, bitter after-taste. The fries were not too bad, just that it would have been better if it were tastier. I paid $7.50 for it.

With the price I paid, I'd say it was rather worth it. Large portion, enough to fill your tummy. Not too bad for the price I guess, but don't go with too high expectations in terms of quality of food. What with all the hoo-ha about BJ, some may probably find it over-rated by the time they've gotten down to trying it. Well, at least I did. (Ah, but I think I'd still rate it a 3.5 / 5 for the price and fairly satisfactory service.)

Tried the Cajun Chicken. Firstly, I am happy that despite my many requests(more fries, no coleslaw, more lettuce). they did not get the requests wrong. Service was friendly and unassume-ing. WHile i liked the chicken as it was spicy and cheesy(my two favourites), I found the chicken a tad hard. I guess Im more of a chicken thigh person. But the fries were delish.
