As you probably know, Goodwood's Deli often has the "Durian Fair" Period that lasts for arounf 7 months? So I was curious and decided to go and try it out, being a self-professed durian fanatic.
I must say the ambience as spectacular.. And the pianist is awesome :D.
I tried the durian swiss roll... Totally good. The durian taste was too mild for me, though. Young kids would probably love it. I also tried the chocolate cake. I frogot what the actual name was. For a small loaf, it costs 10 dolllars. Really affordable. I like the chocolate powder on top.
I wanna get some more! (:

Dropped by the Goodwood Park Hotel Deli after our dinner at Chummeez to pick up some of their famous Durian Puffs. I was hoping to get 50% off as all pastries go for half price after 2000hrs everyday. Alas, it only applied to the cakes and not the Durian Puffs. Nevertheless, I bought a box of 20 at about $35, which roughly works out to be $1.80/puff. Ridiculously expensive if you ask me, especially when the puffs from 717 Cakerie go for only about $0.55 each and they serve a pretty mean Durian Puff.

However, the Durian Puffs are really good and undoubtedly live up to their reputation. The pastry is soft and fluffy, even after being left in the fridge for some time. The durian filling is simply finger licking good. Made from D24 durians, it is smooth and sweet, yet doesn't come on as being too strong or overwhelming. There's quite a huge durian filling between the pastries so you can be sure of a durian overload. Try it to believe!

With so many mooncake makers springing up suddenly, its not difficult to tell that the annual mooncake festival is just round the corner. Ok, frankly speaking, i do not have a fetish on normal mooncakes (those with yolks in lotus paste kind).

Perhaps that is the reason why i will look out for extraordinary mooncakes every year. This year, i highly recommend the golden mooncakes from goodwood park hotel.

These golden mooncakes are entirely different (in both looks and taste) from the traditional mooncakes. Let us first talk about their skin, normal mooncakes are either baked or snowskin, but the golden mooncakes's skin is actually in layered form and its crispy! Can you imagine that?

Crispy golden brown layered skin is the signatory of these mooncakes. Whats more? These layered skin do not seem to drop off when i tasted them. (pretty impressed about that)

There are basically two types of fillings for the golden mooncakes. One is of course the usually seen yam paste and the other is... their famous D24 durian! Yes, you hear it right. Its durian!!!

I have long heard of their durian in puffs and cakes form. However, this is my very first time to have heard of durian mooncakes. Nevertheless, they did not fail to impress me. I simply loved their durian mooncakes.

The fillings in the mooncakes is made of real D24 durian paste. Usually durian paste are mixed with cream to make them into a paste form. But this filling in the mooncakes is durians and only durians (no white colour cream found).

Before i even taste it, the fragent (only if you are a durian lover) durian smell has already surfaced. The combination of smooth durian paste and crispy skin basically just melted in my mouth. Fantastic. Eventually, I polished down 2 mooncakes in one go with getting sick of it. hehe.

This is my highly recommended mooncake for this year. Although prices are slightly at the high range (what you expect when it come from famous hotel?), its really worth to try it. Moreover, mooncake festival only occurs once a year. :P

They have rather limited quantity sold in their outlet everyday. This is to ensure the freshness and quality of their mooncakes. So please be there early if you want to get them. Great offer for uob and hsbc credit card members as they are able to enjoy extra discount on the mooncakes. So why wait anymore? Try them out today.

Deli on the ground floor at Goodwood Park Hotel serves delicious and beautifully presented pastries, homemade cookies, pies and cakes. Perfect for the afternoon tea break, after your retail therapy. Stroll into the Deli and enjoy the fresh pastries and cakes with a cuppa Hot tea or coffee.

Takeaways are also welcome and the familiar crowd would turn up just before 8pm, for a reason..... All cakes, pastries and practically everthing (execpt the Deli itself) goes for 50% off. So if you are going to take advantage of this offer, you need to be there well before 8pm. Make sure that you are at least 4th in the queue, otherwise the person in front of you might well have said "I will take everything"...and there goes your effort. Happily for me, being 4th in the queue, the 3 persons in front of me did not say that....so off I went with 3 bags of cakes and pastries at 1/2 price.
