their ramen is really good (: the soup is robust, tasty and doesnt feel too oily. noodles springy, and comes with loads of crunchy bamboo shoots, rutan, jap fishcake and snow peas. ordered the ebi wanton ramen set, comes with five fried ebi wanton that is insanely good..but also unbelievably sinful. although there are visible little pools of oil on the wanton, cant really taste it. haha denial.
must order their mixed mushroom soup! its at teh hot plate katsu/meats stall (beside oden stall), it has about 3 types of mushrooms in a soup. the most interesting part is that it comes with a small wedge of lemon, and if you try the soup before and after adding lemon in, its an amazing world of a difference (:
their pork katsu rice (on hot plate) is not bad, but gets dreary after a few bites. for a vegan-wannabe like me, one bite is more than enough
all in all, good food..at rather exorbitant prices, i feel.
Had been to the outlet at Heeren and the experience was so-so but the food was quite good.
Thus, yesterday, my wife and I decided to grab some food to go to the outlet at Raffles City/City Hall and treat the family for the weekend.
I must say that we were very disappointed by the experience. There were mainly Chinese staff who did not speak English. Our orders were not taken correctly. For example, we ordered a soba for takeaway and wanted to add tempura. The chap gave us TWO sobas, one cold soba for takeway and the other hot soba with tempura for dine-in! No receipt was provided and thus, the confusion. After I explained to him the situation that I only needed one cold soba with tempura, he proceeded to pour the hot soba in a takeaway dish. I was baffled. I tried to explain to him that we only wanted one soba and whether we could cancel the hot one, there was an awkward silence as he looked at me. Feeling sorry that he would probably have to pay for the hot soba, we took the hot soba and ate it before going off.
The staff did not provide accurate expected times for the preparation of food. We thought that since most of the food would take 10 min or so to prepare, we would be out of their quickly. No way, the whole process took over 30min.
At the cashier, I was shooed to move to another cashier as two of the cashiers were chatting!
Bad bad experience both on the service staff as well as the speed of the food delivery.
Will we go back? Probably not and rest assured, our friends will hear of this.
I went to Shokudo to meet friends there and I must say that the food there is affodable and good enough for me.
Im not too sure about what the name of my main course was, but it was Unagi with Rice. It cost me less than $5, which is around the same price as a normal Food court, except that it tasted better.
For dessert, I had waffles. It was better than Venezia's or Gelare's, to my surprise. It was aromatic and crispy, and not too sweet, something that, in my opinion, is an achievement. I really liked the ambience here and I don't mind coming back for more again. I heard that the Cineleisure outlet had good Spaghetti!
The main thing which i love about shokudo would be the ambiance. it's a wonderful place to hang out with friends. The food was pretty affordable as well except for the grilled skewers which were pretty pricey.
This time round, i had the wasabi prawn omelette. it was very worth it due to the amount of prawns used. During my previous visits, I tried the omu-rice with chicken chop, mushroom pizza and of course, their desserts.
i can never skip their desserts especially waffles with gelato. It's really good that they have uncommon flavours of gelato like rock melon ice cream, yuzu and many others. my favourites has got to be green tea, rock melon and strawberry yogurt. The waffles are thick, fluffy and very filling. so i would advise you not to eat such a heavy main course if you want dessert.
In total, i have visited shokudo for about 7 times and i would definitely go back for more.
I went during lunch and during dinner. Though the concept of food ordering was similar to Marche and they had a lot more choices than Marche, their restaurant layout was rather messy (nothing comparable to the relax environment that Marche offers). Its quite hard to find the stall that you want, since they were not arranged in a straight-line or circular basis. Instead, they were positioned to make full use of the space, while creating natural bordering to the seats. No matter where you sit, you wouldn’t feel that the restaurant could occupy a lot of people, but whenever you step out to move around the stalls, you would find yourself easily bumping into another person.
When I went during lunch, I ordered a curry noodle, and I could see their cooking staff working rather slow, when there wasn’t much orders in front of mine.
The negatives aside, this place was a perfect outlet for me!! From my favourite omu-rice & curry rice/noodle, to the others like Japanese pizza, teppanyaki, yakitori, sashimi, dessert, it combined a lot of Japanese food in 1 location. They also had a few soup choices and I ordered a bowl of ready-in-pot miso soup with white radish. Their omu-rice had various choices of meat to go with it, but the main focus (egg) only got a 70 over 100 from me. It’s only half way between a Chinese-style omelette-on-rice and a wet Japanese-style omu-rice. Their Japanese pizza was really thin but just that I am not a fan of Japanese pizza.
Saw the long queue at Shokudo Raffles City and decided not to go in. But passed by Heeren just the other day they had another Shokudo at the heeren basement.
No queue, so decided to go in to have a look since i nv had a chance to step into the one at Raffles City. The abience was good, there were playing pop jap music and the staff were very nice. They greet you when you enter the restaurant and as you walk past the various food counters.
There were alot to choose from but we settled on rosti, omelette, salmon sashimi, omu rice and a dessert. The food is good, with huge sharing portions. They also have rather unique drinks imported from japan (a counter staff told me).
Overall, I'm rather happy with the dining experience and would definitely bring more friends to Shokudo.
Been to this Japanese Food Bazzar a couple of times, Basically I would say that this place's concept is quite similar and in some ways identical to that of Marche's. Only difference would be that this places serves mostly Japanese food instead of Western, which suits me fine.
I have tried the egg omelette, seafood pizza, sashimi, grilled food ( squid, bacon and asparagus on skewer, beef on skewer, fried vegetable, etc). And I must say that they taste much much better than those I have eaten before at Marche's. It is likely due to the sauces that they used in teh grilling. As for the sashimi, it is fresh and melts in your mouth. But the price is a bit steep for only a few slices of the sashimi. But I personally feel that it is worth the money.
It can get quite crowded on weekends and as such the waiting time for your fo dcan get a bit long as well as the queuing up time to get into the restaurant. Therefore do be prepared to wait. All in all, this is a great place to eat when you are with a big group of friends. But do watch your orders to avoid racking up a hefty bill.
