I've been patronising this old-school Hainanese establishment for as long as I can remember. They do the best chicken-soup based steamboat ever. No numbing MSG after-taste. Just clean, pure and good soup base. Prices are calculated according to the number of diners and how much the set is. No reservations allowed, but turnover is very high so even impatient persons like me will be willing to wait it out. Big plus point, the place is air-conditioned.

    1) Steamboat (all inclusive set): Consists of pig liver, cockles, squid, sea cucumber, fish balls, fish maw, sliced pork, sliced fish, vegetables and eggs. You can add and delete items as you like. All the food is served a la carte. Not buffet style. Everything's amazingly fresh, sweet and succulent.

    2) Additional Beef and Tripe: You can opt to have this additionally. Beef is tender, juicy without the artificial tenderiser taste.

    3) Sweet and Sour Pork: Pork is crispy yet tender and succulent, and the piquant tomato-based sauce was tangy, sweet and savoury all at the same time

    4) Poached Chicken. silky smooth, moist and packed with flavour

    5) Chicken rice is served in lieu of white rice, although you can request white rice instead. The rice is cooked the traditional way, whereby the rice is first fried and coated evenly in oil and spices before adding the stock to boil. This makes the rice very flavourful and one that you can eat on its own without any chicken and/or ingredients

NB. I gave 8 stars out of 10 for service because I've known the people here since I was a little girl so they are extra sweet.

We frequent a few times as well as we find it convenient to eat here.

You get to eat steamboat with chicken rice and other chinese dishes at one place. and of course satay as well.

The chicken is tender and satay is grilled just nice. Just that the steamboat at $20 is a bit miserable as the quantity is not worth the value.

With 2 adults and 2 kids, we spend around $40-$50 which is a bit expensive for a normal dinner.

The place can be quite crowded especially at dinner time and weekends even though they have taken over almost the half of the basement.

This is our family's restaurant because we are Hainanese. I agree that the steamboat ingredients are nothing fantastic. But their soup stock is very delicious and seem to be devoid of MSG, which is very rare nowadays.

Their pork satay is done the old fashioned way, with pieces of fat in between the meat. If done well, it is very yummy !!!

The restaurant tends to fill up during dinner times. But it is manageable for lunch crowds.

If you do not mind eating at this crappy shopping centre, this is a good place! Be careful of the car park , very narrow and dirty !

Went to Golden Mile with my parents last night for steamboat at Thien Kee Steamboat, which was supposedly one of THE places to go for good steamboat. Thien Kee has been around at the basement of Golden Mile Complex for ages and the fading façade is testament to that. When we got there at about 1930hrs, the whole place was packed to the brim with people, with tables being set up in the isles and literally anywhere where there was an empty space, even right up to the lift and stair doors! With a little luck, we managed to get a good seat in the main restaurant itself near the aircon vent. We had the small steamboat order for 3 pax @ $23, 10 sticks of pork Satay, Hainanese Chicken @$8, drinks and chicken rice.

The ingredients for the steamboat were pretty miserable quantity wise. 2 small platters of meat mixed with liver, cockles, fish and fishballs with another 2 platters of vegetables and 2 eggs. Upon cooking, the food tasted normal, nothing fantastic. The Hainanese chicken was a little too cold and bloody for my liking and the chicken rice was a little cold as well. However, it wasn’t very oily which is a plus point to me. The Satay was the highlight, with hardly any visible charred parts, fat and juicy. The gravy was also good, with lots of crushed nuts in it and no visible layer of oil. Comparable to the wonderful Satay gravy that I had in Karjang, (Not sure about the spelling, but its in Malaysia and famous for its Satay) just that the one at Karjang is very much thicker.

Very filling dinner, but at about $42 for 3 pax, not exactly very cheap considering the quantity and quality of food. But then again, it’s not terribly expensive as well. The air conditioning is a good thing, as things tend to get sweaty during steamboats and service is fast and snappy. Although I feel that its way over hyped, I do recommend trying it before it goes the way of the Dodo. And oh yes, listen out for the cries of “Ma Pi Po”, something which I haven’t heard in a while. ;)

        See all my pictures here.

I am recommending a stall in Whampoa Hawker Centre which is now under renovation, but presently relocated at somewhere near the renovating hawker centre. The stall name is LoyKee Chicken Rice which also sells steamboat and at a cheaper price. The large steamboat costs only $20 and small one $15 with more ingredients than the Golden Mile which costs $32 for 4 persons. Even the whole chicken costs only $20 and half chicken costs $10 at LoyKee. Golden Mile whole chicken costs $28 and half costs $14. Golden Mile service is fast, in fact they are so fast that I had been charged $1 more which I did not pursuit. I considered it as a tip for the fast service. I also witnessed another table arguing over the bill amount. I think they are not honest when come to billing customers.
If you happen to be at Whampoa, please try the stall and you will never visit Golden Mile Thien Kee again.
The LoyKee's chicken is cooked just right, very smooth and tender. The chicken rice is very fragrant, their chilli and ginger are just wonderful.
I think you saw so many people at the Golden Mile means the food must be good, typical Singaporean style of viewing.
LoyKee Chicken Rice is not only tastes better they are also cheaper.

If you like SteamBoat and Chicken Rice, This is the place to be. They have been in business since before i was born and till today, business is still thriving. You can Imagine how yummy.

Located at a not so glamourous shopping mall. This steamboat restaurant serves one of the best chicken rice I had ever tasted. The chicken meat is soft and tender but not too oily. Steamboat is about the same but the ingredients are pretty standard with veg, fishballs, a little meat, sea cucumber, fish skin..etc...

When both combined... Everything just went crazily YUMMY... The chicken rice went so well with the steamboat. With a nice cup of freshly squeezed orange juice, it is completely appetizing, especially on a rainy day. Seeping the hot hot soup with a half cooked egg is simply a dream come through.

On some evenings, they also serve Pork Satay. Can you find another Satay Stall in a fully air conditioned shopping mall? There is also roast pork and if you like hor fun and other kinds of noodle dishes. They are cooked OLD STYLE and very yummy.

Remember to call to book your sits, sometimes its rather difficult as it is pretty popular.

Traditional SteamBoat with CHICKY Rice...... YUM YUM......
