You can't miss this outlet, It seemed to be there forever. This Jack's Place outlet has been there since my childhood days and it kinda became a good meeting spot for me and my friends.

Its usually a quieter place to dine in town, you could almost always find a space and I simply enjoy the cosiness of the booth like sittings. Yup, its old skool, you get the splinted worn out wooden seats and ugly plastic laminated menu, but its alright because everything goes well together and thats including the elderly looking waiter and waitresses (I admire their courage to take up a job as waiting on others is not a simple feat who suffers from back aches and knee pains *SALUTE*). The boring green checked table clothes and antique looking hanging lights, it really brings back very fond young memories and the sweet smiles from the staff, I feel completely at home.

The lunch sets are a good steal. The best I must say would be the Sirloin Steak lunch set for $13.90 that comes complete with the soup of the day, garlic bread, dessert of the day and coffee/tea. I simply love the soup of the day, coffee of the day because it kinda made my day :) Well, you can have the option to upsize and add on with a smaller additional fee, like the every so yummy, snapshot of the ocean without a mouthful of sand, the LOBSTER BRISKET soup has always been a signature of Jack's Place and we also love the seafood salad.

Water was served with a smile and a quick placement of cutleries and shortly the soup and garlic bread arrived. Its a creamy tomato based soup and tasted pretty balanced and homely while shortly afterwards, our steaks arrived. Medium for me and meat is tender with some juiciness still retained inside. The portion was good for an asian diner and I simply loved the sides which is a blanched vegetables that still retained is fresh green appearance and some fried potato chips (french fries). I am not quite a beef lover but i finished it all. It was yummy portion was just right, thickness of the slab just good, easy to cut through, fresh and yummy, (the ancient way).

Dessert was served of a generous portion. An apple crumbly looking slice of pie (full portion) drizzled with a slightly foggy transparent sauce that tasted sweet. While I had my tea "o" (without milk), i drizzled my pot of evaporate milk (aka creamer) onto the pie to add on to the mushiness and creamy texture. Heavenly.

Love the environment, the service, the homely feel and I hope Jack's Place will be around for the longest time possible.

Location: 4/5 (Bras Besah Complex) Service: 4/5 (nothing fancy just smiles and homely gestures) Food: 4/5 (nothing prize worthy, yet the nearest healthy and home cooked food- western style you can find) Ambiance: 3.5/5 (needs a little simple renovation but its good as its own- like an old time diner) Price: 4/5 (Reasonable especially the lunch sets are really eventful)

    Will I return: YES

Will I bring my friends: YES

It is strange to find a Jack's Place right in this place. The crowd flow isn't that much as most people will be heading there to buy books, stationeries and art materials.

Anyhow, I've decided to try it out after getting my materials. Tried out the student meal, which was the chicken and mushroom spaghetti that day. Not really tasty, quite sticky I should say. That's why it is advisable for them to stick to their trade as a steakhouse.

Coming here, of course we had to try the steak there. Ordered a plate of black pepper steak and it wasn't that bad. But I expected more from them, especially when they are a steakhouse.

Ambience wise, it is kind of strange to have a meal in a restaurant situated in the HDB block. The lightings are not well-lighted. The whole decor of the place is really dark. Candles don't really make much of a difference. I was placed in a section which only had us. No other customers were in sight. I don’t think I’ll be back for a second time as I’m more obsessed with the ambience. But if you are heading there, try nothing else but the steak to avoid any disappointment.

Oh, this outlet has been there for ages, if I am not mistaken, it is probably the flagship outlet of Jack's Place. My dad used to bring the whole family there for dinner when I was in Primary school.
