I love Wasabi Tei as well. The food comes in a good portion with tasty appertiser and sides. Its quite authentic and with the barside seats all round, I cannot help but feel a little japanese.

It is constantly crowded. Mainly because of the very yummy food and value for money prices. However behaving well with good courtesy and being considerate is an important virtue when u dine in this restaurant.

Don't come in Big Groups... There might not be sufficient seat for you and your friends, less you want to take turns to eat on the table.

Do not change your mind after your ordered your food. Less your ears will bleed from grumbling.

Do no ask for this and demand for that as quality food does not necesary comes with quality service.

If you happen to sit by the corners, please make sure you allow ample space for that poor diner inside who wants to get out.

Always put a smiling face even if the stern looking chef stares at you for playing with his cutleries. If you K-L, he will unleash the tiger within.

VERY SUPERB YUMMY QUALITY FOOD and AFFORDABLE Prices.. This Place is FAB.....but NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED.......

this must be the best Japanese food I've had in Singapore so far.

a realllyyy small restaurant tucked away up on the 5th floor of bustling far east plaza, Wasabi Tei has no fancy decor (what decor?) to speak of, and is in fact so unimpressive on the exterior i bet you could have walked past its doors multiple doors without quite knowing it's an awesome Japanese eatery within.

with only 16 seats packed in the tiny shop front, i had to wait for almost 40min before i even stepped foot into the eatery. once inside, prepare to order EVERYTHING that you feel like eating AT ONE GO, because they do not allow a second order so as to ensure a faster turnover.

The chef took his time to prepare the food, but it was definitely well worth the wait. The salmon sashimi was thick, fatty and fresh! Yummss! Blissful... The chawanmushi which was generously filled with mushrooms and prawns was surprisingly good too. All our dishes were well prepared and delicious, so it was certainly a highly satisfying meal at a reasonable $15 per person after we split the bill.

Beware though, of the temperament of the chef himself. His wife is slightly milder, but don't expect smiles and a warm attitude when you dine here. It's best to ask friends who've been here before to bring you, so you can be spared the lecture for not knowing the "unspoken rules". Otherwise, it's an excellent place for yummy Jap food and I will definitely be back again!

Wasabi, known as Japanese Horseradish, must be very finely grated before use and has an extremely strong flavour. Its hotness is more akin to that of Hot English Mustard.

However, on the 5th floor of Far East Plaza, lies a small cosy Japanese restaurant run by a couple of Food Nazis – the chef with the lady boss are notorious for their temperament – said to be fierier than the wasabi they dished out, we soon experienced it when she told us in a not so friendly tone, “Don’t bend the laminated menu or else it would spoil”. However, like the short-lived spiciness of the wasabi, the bad attitude and service is soon forgotten the moment the food arrived.

Seated in a small U-shaped counter for 16 pax, the Salmon Belly Sashimi is to die for – it is the most generous serving I had ever seen! The fish was very thick and the fatty meat was very smooth and fresh.

The Uni Sushi, or the Sea Urchin, is not the Roe, but rather the Gonads, or organs that produce the roe. The serving was once again very liberal and I must say it was very satisfying. The Seaweed was crisply fresh and the gonads were equally faultless.

The California Roll was also very well presented with Ebi Roe nicely coated all over the Mat Sushi, and the Avocado and Crabsticks were plentiful with each mouthful.

The Unagi-Don was also expectedly filled with chunks of Grilled Eel and the wait was worthwhile. Nicely grilled to produce the charred tang, this dish comes seemingly close to the one I had when I was in Japan.

In fact, the food was so good that we wanted to go for a 2nd round of sashimi, but we were promptly refuted by the lady boss who commented, “The chef is too busy and you probably need to wait very long.” Oh, and do go early because of the limited space, and be expected to queue after 6.30pm.
