i visited chicago steakhouse with 2 friends.

they both ordered some steak and i ordered some pan-fried fish.

the waiter had a hilarious fake accent and took great effort to compliment each of us on our choice of dish. nevertheless, service was amusing and more than friendly.

food came fast enough, but serving sizes were small beyond belief. my fish was mind-blowingly salty, had to drink loads of ice water to neutralize it. overall food was good, though desserts not value for money. we didnt even bother ordering desserts. i reccomend hopping over to burger king for their hershey's sundae pie ($2.40)

word of caution: please be careful while handling the hot plate because both my friends got scalded badly, one after the other. one of my friends developed an instant blister which had him whining throughout dinner, dessert at bk and the cab fare home. yes it hurt that much.

      57. Original Sin

my boss treated me to original sin last friday (:

for those who are iffy about vegetarian food and think its all about anaemic looking rabbit food, think again!!

the wait staff are friendly in a professional way and are appropriately distant.

first dish (starter) : japanese eggplant ($15). this basically consists of a palm-sized brick of fried tofu (chinese-style), with miso paste sandwiched between the tofu and grilled eggplant. accompanying it are the most amazing mushrooms i've ever had, the seasoning and texture were literally a jolt to my tastebuds as they, in an inexplicable way, tasted like meat.

second dish (not on menu, daily special i think): warm salad. pan-fried mushrooms and snow peas, with lettuce and toasted bread. the bread was toasted to the point of being hard, which i didnt really appreciate. but overall it tasted good.

third dish (main): some pizza ($22). cheesy bread with paper-thin crust, topped with generous amounts of capsicum, olives, mushroom. when i brought the leftovers home and re-toasted it the next morning, it still tasted good which is a plus-point for me (:

fourth dish (dessert): chocolate mud cake ($12). a huge wedge of chocolate cake served with a soup of vanilla ice cream served separately in a prissy little dish, chocolate sauce drizzled artistically (in the way i dont like), together with raspberries, blueberries and strawberries sprinkled sparsely around.

my least favourite dish must've been the dessert because
      (a) it wasn't "muddy" enough. dense and rich as the cake may be, i was expecting a fudgy texture.
      (b) i dont like pretentious food presentations. i like my ice cream on top of the cake and the chocolate sauce on top of the ice cream. too much effort and wastage spreading everything out on the plate.
      (c) totally not worth $12. i think i still prefer my home-baked choc brownie.

but overall, a good experience. the food was good, dine alfesco cos there's a good breeze and more conducive atmosphere for long chats (:

i went there with my family, and i find the variety neither pocket-friendly nor appetizing.

nevertheless, i wound up with a curry udon which was surprisingly cheap (arnd $8) and absolutely delicious!!

the other dishes ordered by my family were forgettable, my sister commented that we should've just bought sashimi from carrefour and eaten food court jap food instead. the beef in the beef hot pot my mum ordered had the consistency of chewing gum and she was desperately distributing the tough slices to us (no luck there!) for love of her gums.

service wasnt worth the 10% service charge, with iced water served after our main courses arrived, upon prompting. it doesnt make sense to pay so much more just for (a)someone to carry my food from the kitchen to the table and oh (b) for them to shout "irasshaimase" into my ear.

They used to be very good. But their standard dropped by a lot. The outlet at Esplanade seems to be better

i'm a peanut fan, so this shop's kuehs are good for me!

the peanut ang ku kueh has a very thin and soft red skin with an extremely generous amount of peanut filling. its the ground nut type, not the peanut butter type. more sugar could be added though (:

the durian ang ku kueh is quite good, it actually tastes like durian.

ang ku kuehs are priced arnd $0.50 each, so good for treating people in office!

the only thing about this shop is that the name is very difficult to remember and pronounce. my friends and i call it "ah gong ah ma ang ku kueh" haha (:

Ajisen ramen is what I call comfort japanese food at affordable prices.

Their noodles are one of a kind, pasta-ramen hybrids which i like so much more than all the "authentic" ramen shops elsewhere which taste like glamorized instant noodles.

The soup, esp the spicy miso soup is very rich, i'm not sure with msg or actual herbs and spices but one bowl is not enough!!

The food comes quickly too and the set meals are value for money (:

Different people likes ramen differently. I find Ajisen Ramen noodles oily and a lot of MSG. I always get very thirsty after taking their noodles and soup. Ken Ramen Hse is much better choice for me.
