i feel a bit weird adding a new biz onto yebber. but im surprised no one has reviewed Magic Wok yet! the food rocks!

pandan chicken. served with coleslaw (shredded raw cabbage, no mayo) which cuts the almost negligible amt of oil in the chicken perfectly. the skin of the chicken is crispy and flesh is juicy and moist (:

sambal kangkong is SPICY!! really got kick, would go wonderfully with a steaming bowl of rice.

the pineapple fried rice was so-so, was slightly amused by the pineapple it was served in, but other than that there was nothing memorable abt the dish.

phad thai wasnt too great too, the kway teow stuck tgt and quite a chewy gluey affair.

black pepper beef was nice though. wish we ordered rice.

all in all quite value for money, paid $9 each for 7 people..great for after-school dinners (:

i love asian kitchen chinese salad: sounded sketchy; with rather unappetizing looking pictures. we warned my friend not to order, and she did, with the prior knowledge that she might end up eating a mouthful of confused culture. but anw it was awesome (: simply seasoned seaweed with julienned..stuff. cant rmb what it is. but very yummy!

xiao long bao a bit floury on top. can literally see the dough. but other than that, the pork and prawn dumplings are nice, the skin is thin enough, broth not oily (v impt) and the prawns were (chemically?) crunchy.

chilli soft shell crab!! ordering chilli crab at seafood restaurants is alw a messy affair. this is the spoilt brat's version - pile the eggy, spicy gravy onto the soft shell crab, open wide and moan obscenely. a definite must-try, though a bit pricey.

moonlight horfun the name is a bit tacky, but other than that, there's nothing obiang abt this dish. in fact, i rename it "The Best Char Kway Teow in Singapore". u have a choice of having the egg cracked raw or cooked with the horfun (choose raw!), and..its really indescribable. brown slivers of smooth horfun/kway teow..oishikatta!

zha jiang mian er. average. save your stomach and wallets for another plate of either moonlight horfun / chilli soft shell crab.

bill came up to $42 for 3 people, 100% value for money (: among the nyny-shokudo-thai express family, this one's the best.

usually i never bother ordering ipoh hor fun when i go out, cos i think my maid's is good enough.

but this one is really..not bad. for $4, i got 3-4 generously stuffed dumplings, silky hor fun and a lot a lot of sauce. the sauce though, is the cheater's kind (cornstarch) which becomes watery after a while. but the accompanying chilli is good (:

we also ordered sambal kangkong which was fragrant, and got wok hei! cost abt $6. i never understand why veggies cost more in chinese restaurants.

anw visit this place for class(ier) dining on a budget. a meal shouldnt set u back more than $10 per person.

i think ben & jerry's is a colossal ripoff. (please dont sue me)

i paid $13.80 for a (puny) double belgian waffle with 2 really small scoops of ice cream. realllyyy small. we got strawberry cheesecake and one cheesecake brownie which were quite good, my only grouse being the stingy portions.

background: double belgian waffle comes with (a) choice of 2 ice creams - my advice, choose the ultra chocolatey ones (b) choice of topping (choc cereal, m&m, choc rice, chopped peanuts and some rainbow sprinkly things) (c) choice of caramel or hot fudge (don't kill yourself thinking, they give u so little of this that you cant really taste it anw)

well what i was extremely unhappy abt is their presentation. im actually not a fussy person, i dont like pretentious, prissy foods which masquerade as pieces of art. but plastic plates, plastic fork and knives and disposable napkins are really pushing it. if i want to feel like im eating a waffle&ice cream combo in a fun-fair, i will go to one (and pay infinitely less for it).

but other than that, the atmosphere is quite hip (ok a bit act cool, but still) and i did like the friends re-runs they were showing. the table set up is obviously to discourage muggers from camping out, but who can study with phoebe singing songs to kids abt chastity??

to end off my extremely whiny and rather b****y story abt b&j, i'll just remind everyone not to go there again. maybe just take a sample, smirk and skip away, cos they can afford it (plastic cutlery v cheap. save on water bill and dishwashing staff)

        nihon mura rocks (:

cheaper than subway, and much more satisfying!

the 99 cent plates are extremely value for money, and if you think about it, more worth it than picking individual sushi pieces at supermarkets. it also tastes much better! i had the seafood salad, seasoned scallop (hotate) x2, jellyfish (a bit stingy on the jellyfish serving), salmon and edamane (soy beans). honestly for a sushi plebian such as myself, the quality far exceeded the price.

we also ordered the prawn cutlet ($4) which remained piping hot and crispy for quite a while. suggestion: request for mayo. the pairing is just heavenly.

definitely give the grilled shitake mushrooms ($2) a miss. i wont elaborate cos im biased toward nihon mura and id prefer to skip over their bad points heh heh.

        meal for 2 cost $12 (:
