tofu waterfall   special pocky 1   special pocky 2   giant crabs
saiko. sugoi. suteki. subarashii!! (all mean wonderful)

i love meidi-ya. i call it japanland2. (japanland1 being isetan shaw, but only because its in a more convenient location)

the japanese careful attention to detail is most prominent here, with great effort put into..everything. i ooh-ed and aah-ed at everything like a great big suaku when i was in there. :p

im utterly fascinated by the tofu waterfall. im sure theres some complicated reason behind the continuous flow of water to cool the tofu blocks, other than for aesthetic purposes.

oh and the POCKY! anata mo watashi no pocky! (jap pocky tagline - you too are my pocky!) there are one million varieties of pocky..ranging from brazilian pudding, mikan (orange) to sharksfin.

and the giant crab in its little aquarium. a bit scary but very cool. and yummy looking haha.

the best part has got to be the prepared food section, but when i got there after dinner there wasnt much so no pics. gomen ne!

    all in all, a wonderful experience (: (: (:

      never go there.

for one, the mediterranean (vegetarian) spaghetti is quite bad. i liked the crunch of the generous serving of veggies in the pasta, but the sauce was watery and tasteless. by the time i was halfway through the meal, the pasta turned limp and cold, which made me suspect that it was a microwaved affair.

plus when i asked for my pasta to be cooked longer (i dont like al dente after getting braces.), she said that it wasnt possible which is another hint that its microwaved, since if its cooked on the spot there wouldnt be any problems with cooking the noodles longer.

my friend got the grilled chicken with mushroom sauce, with rice and "salad". i quote salad because it was a few limp leaves of lettuce and onion. rice was a sad excuse for chicken rice. but it smelt great so..might want to go with that.

maybe the cakes are better? but its a waste of $13. go to the kenny rogers next door better.

no pictures. awful food cannot take picture.

prawns in spicy coconut gravy   chicken satay   fried fish in spicy sweet sauce
        GOOD STUFF.

ate on 29 dec 2008, was $14.80 for lunch. looking at fellow yebbers comments above, obviously inflation hasnt hit the Rice Table. yeah!

        things you'd want to re-order:

        1. the prawns. fresh, crunchy (but not chemically altered.) and juicy prawns in savory coconut gravy. really really oishii.

        2. chicken satay. its really indescribable, the satay gravy is nothing like you've seen before, its not the usual coarse peanut (and rather gross looking) affair. rather you get a dark, luscious gravy dripping off thick chunks of juicy chicken, bearing only the slighest hint of peanut.

        3. beef rendang. fat-marbled beef tears apart easily and melts in the mouth (:

        4. crispy fish with..some sauce. this one, others might find serviceable, but i quite like it.

        5. indonesian fruit salad. ok this is a stupid, waste money thing to order at a buffet, but the tart green apple-and-orange mix is a nice ending to the rich, coconut-laden meal.

the best thing i like abt the rice table is the chill, laid-back feel of the place. somehow i didnt feel like 'chionging' like at other buffets, which meant i wasnt over-stuffed at the end of the meal.

my only grouse is that desserts arent included :p

very value for money set lunches (:

set lunches go for $10.90, $13.90 and $15.90, comes with the usual soup and coffee.

the mussel guys always do fish wonderfully, so i ordered the pan-grilled dory fish with aromatic rice. well, butter rice essentially. it came with GORGEOUS buttter sauce, which made the entire dish perfect.

the lamb-and-dory dish (same dory) was good too, the lamb decently done with nice accompanying mint sauce.

soup was the usual mushroom soup, with a fragrant, soft piece of garlic bread which i rather liked.

service was good, with friendly filipino waitstaff (im biased toward filipino waitstaff, but i think its completely justified) clearing our plates and..somehow each course came at PERFECT timings. a bit freaky but much appreciated (:

lastly, the view of the place is fantastic. really nice for a long lunchtime chat with friends.

            an average experience.

for one, they have friendly, joking bouncers which i think starts the experience on a right note.

            the drinks are a bit diluted, had 2 fruity mixes which was light on the alcohol (alright for me) but sweet enough (: no menus which i dont like. bartenders claim that its all in their heads.;

the music was bad. members only area played helicopter music and button-pinging noises for eternity, with some 'throw your hands up in the air' song played continuously. the other dance area had r&b, songs werent very nice to dance to..the only ones i liked being milkshake and teriyaki boys. which are supposed to be annoying. and the dance area is FREEZING.

overall quite an ok experience if you're there to drink and mingle and not to dance.
