this stall has received a lot of publicity, including a tv review on some foodie show. its in the same kopitiam as the famous ang ku kueh stall.

my advice? skip the pasta and go for ang ku kueh.

i ordered the creamy chicken pasta, i didnt like that i wasnt offered a choice of pasta. but they gave me penne so that wasnt so bad. anw the cream sauce was very bland, and the whole dish was just..tasteless. thankfully it wasnt too cloying. i think san remo's instant pasta (carbonara flavor) is nicer.

i dapao-ed vegetarian pasta and carbonara for my colleagues. my boss says that the veg pasta is like..chinese style fried noodle (spaghetti fried with tomato, eggplant chunks). the vongole turned out to be a lasagna (v weird, plus the owner never tell me..) and you know how sometimes cheese smells like vomit? well this was so bad my other colleague threw it out. i always thought that vongole was a white-wine based "dry" pasta with clams..well either im wrong or this stall is weird.

all in all, a very horrible experience. very long wait too, service not too friendly.

i tried vinco's donuts before the craze started, and they were amazing. what struck me was the soft cushy dough used, nothing like the four leaves / neighbourhood bakery rainbow donut we grew up with..

then ytd, a colleague bought a few boxes (now with an adorable new name - dippin' donuts) back and i tried the flavor with white colored spread and coffee powder. unidentifiable flavor, good taste. the choc flavor is so-so and the almond & white spread one was sublime.

i think i'd rather stick with my first impression, when it was still vinco's

everyone who takes the mrt at lot one isnt spared from the wonderful buttery scent coming from pie kia, and i mean it in the best way possible.

however, i think that the smell is waaayy better than the taste. the pies are definitely above average, but nothing like the smell promises..hope i'm making sense here.

i've bought the mushroom chicken and roast chicken pies for my sister, she seems to like it, so..i guess it must be quite good.

one good thing abt this is that if they run out of pies, which happens quite often, you can "pre-order" and then come back later to pick up your freshly baked pies. when it comes to pastries, i think its best to consume it not too long after it comes out of the oven. not immediately, but i really wouldnt want to eat something that's been sitting on the shelf.

visit on: Monday, 7 July 2008, dinner

fried squid with salted egg: i expected the salted egg to be spread onto the squid, then battered and fried. but instead, the salted egg was sprinkled on top of everything. the effect really wasnt there, quite an average dish.

fried tofu (complimentary dish with dbs/posb card, spend more than $30): served with chopped peanuts and sweet thai chilli sauce. everything blended perfectly, the thin, crispy tofu skin and the wobbly tofu, peanut and chilli.

black pepper soft shell crab: soft shell crab with black pepper sauce. crab not oily, and the black pepper gravy had a punch without being too spicy. must try!

green chicken curry: this is only alright. i suggest buying Asian Home Gourmet's green curry, and cooking it with bittergourd, eggplant and chicken. much better, healthier and delicious. comes with rice.

red seafood curry: it was..typical. i havent tried Asian Home Gourmet's red curry so i can't comment. comes with rice.

plus 3 extra plates of rice, total bill came up to $52, which was more than affordable for a meal for 5. service was good enough, was pleasantly surprised to find out that the wait staff seemed like actual thai people.

i tried this when the kiosk was about to close (no queue!), but i wouldnt reccomend this.

it was obvious that the chewy juniors had been left there for long, cos it didnt taste fresh by the time i brought it home.

i tried the oreo one, i have to say its overkill. fried dough cream chocolate topping oreo. i could really feel the calories going down my throat, and not in a good way.

maybe next time i'll get a flavor with minimal topping.
