I really like the smell of the waffles when I passed by Gelare outlets.
It is as good as the smell from Famous Amos Cookie Stores.
So one Tuesday, out of pure curiosity, I decided to try the waffles.. I was pleasently surprised to learn that on Tuesdays, Gelare has half price offers. So, unsurprisingly, it was quite packed.
I really do not regret this decision.
The waffle was warm and crispy... and it smelt super good!
I ordered it with Chocolate sauce, being a chocoholic.. but I didnt realised that it would cost a bit more. Disappointed.
Also, it does not provide any water, unlike it's competitors like Venezia. This is not a good idea. I was quite shocked to see that.
Overall, the service was more or less okay, but the EXPERIENCE there was not too good....

I havent tried the waffles but my very 1st visit to Gelare was at this outlet with another friend.

We ordered the chicken chop & sausage pesto for main course & banana split for dessert.

My pesto came 1st, 1st look, it was mold green which shocked me as I expected the pesto to come as a dip & not all over the spaghetti, would anyone eat a plate of pesto?

Anyway, the pesto was average with only a few chunks of sausage that tasted like it can be bought from NTUC.

My friend's chicken chop looks promising but the taste proved otherwise. It was tough to chew & wasnt succulent & I dun remember any sauce to go with it.... It was a disaster...

We quickly gobbled the food , not wanting to saviour it & awaited our dessert. Fortunately, the banana split was the main reason we went to Gelare.

Dessert arrived & it looks nice with the usual toppings & all. We took a mouthful of the ice cream, it was not bad. It has a smooth feel & the flavour was rich enough for me BUT it melts faster than i expected.

Thus I'd only recommend ice cream at Gelare, their main courses are out of the qestion. I'll try out their waffles next round after settling my main dinner elsewhere....

The infamous Gelare Tuesdays, the only time of the week when you get waffles at half price. Sounds good doesn't it? Except you can expect to wait for eons for your waffles to be served.

We waited for a good 40 minutes before our simple waffle with two scoops of ice-cream got served.

If they couldn't keep up with the service standard, or to train their staffs to politely inform us of a possible long wait, they might as well not try stunts like this. It only serves to stain their brand name.

And I totally agree with Polarbear above, no free water is a bad move. It's the little perks that keep customers coming back, and the little irks that keep them away.

Likle the waffles there and I always go there on Tuesday. Seem like evey outlet is usually very packed on Tuesday due to their Waffles Day's Promotion.

There got a few different types of waffles and my fav has to be chocolate waffle where they mixed chocolate chip into the waffle. Together with the chocolate waffle, I will add in a scoop of ice creams, a lot of flavours to choose from, my fav is macadiam nut ice cream (paradon for the spelling).

Eat their waffles with jz maple syrup is also good enough. They used to have free flow of plain water, however now got to buy the small bottle of water from them. Bad move. Hmm....

They cheat, on Tuesdays at least

I'm very unhappy about the way they trick you into paying for extras that you don't want.

On Tuesdays, you get waffles at half price. So being the bargain hunter, the girlfriend and I went to this branch for a large waffle. We wanted ice-cream with that. Then, the guy taking the order asked, "Would you like strawberry or chocolate sauce on top?"

It felt odd, the question. But I didn't give it too much thought. So I replied, "Chocolate sauce."

I only realized after my order was served that the chocolate sauce didn't taste very good with the waffles. I then checked the receipt only to see that I have been charged and extra 50 cents for chocolate sauce.
What pisses me off is that they used that common sales tactic to trick customers.
What pisses me off even more is that a cafe/restaurant like Gelaré would stoop to this level.
The correct answer to that question should have been, "I would like to have the maple syrup that best suits the waffles and by my recollection, free. Thank you."

It is just like the unscrupulous trick question Long John Silvers' used to ask their customers, "Medium or large drink?" when the set meal you ordered only has a small drink.

The quality of the waffles and ice-cream is still good, but be sharp when you order waffles on Tuesdays.

And I hope the management fires that guy who asked, "Strawberry or chocolate sauce?"

Wahaha! That's so funny genesis! For me, I usually take just the waffle and add a scope of ice-cream. Plain and simple is yummy!

when you see the bill, you should try asking: "You mean the sauce isn't for free? I have to pay for it?" maybe, they won't charge if you ask like that..
