This place is recommended by one of my relatives.

This places serves the best Crab Bee Hoon I ever tasted. In order to eat their famous crab bee hoon. You need to have luck and patience! Lots of it! The dinner crowd will start to come in ard 5 plus 6 and it will contiune until 9 plus. You need to find your own table, unless you are in a big group. However you are able to make reservation for table and crabs too.

The crab bee hoon comes in a large size crab (Remember to ask for a female crab ok!) and milky soup base. The crab is tender and sweet of cos fresh as well. The soup is sweet from the crab and yet has a flavour on its own. This dish is worth for the wait. Hee...

There is of cos other crab dishes like their creamy crab, chili crab, pepper crab also worth a try. Other dishes like their rojak chicken and seafood tofu!

The price is within reasonable range and it is the only place in a coffeeshop that accepts payment by credit card. Haa....

One thing, the auntie might be grouchy when she gets busy. Be careful. Haa....

    Updated @ 17 Oct 07,

Went to have dinner with a grp of colleagues after taling about it for 3 months.

The queue still as long as ever, lucky we reach there early, no need to wait that long.

The total damage for the day is $190 ($130 on the crabs).

    1. Crab Bee Hoon. There are 2 crabs inside, fairly large sized. Everything atill taste as good. One thing disappointing was the crabs are males and not females, therefore the soup might not be as sweet as it could be.

    2. Creamy crab. Still taste as good. Jz loved the sauce!

    3. Crispy Tofu. Light and crispy. Not to mention hot!

    4. Rojak Chicken. Sweet and sour, with the rojak sauce. It is jz done the way I liked it!

Still order Thai chicken and samba kangkong, but I did not get to taste it as they finished it before I arrived.

Overall, all of us are very happy customers and not to mention FULL! It is definitely worth the wait and the money.

By the time we finished, there is still a steady and long queue of people waiting to be seated. Totally crazy!

This is my favourite place for crab instead of Jumbo or Long Beach Seafood Restaurant. They served better crab than elsewhere....

Patience and aggressiveness are necessary virtues

Damage done: $130 for a meal for six, but it was worth it!

Stuff ordered: Crab Bee Hoon Pork Ribs in Lotus Leaf Cereal Prawns Crispy Seafood Tofu Sambal Kang Kong

Patience and aggressiveness are necessary virtues if you want to eat here. First you need to queue up for a table, which is about half an hour's wait. During that time, need to be vocal about the unfair allocation of tables. Once you get a table, you need to wait for another half an hour for your crab. Plus, the service we experienced took rather long between the first and second dish. We thought it was a banquet style dining, one dish after another. But such is the joy of dining at the kopitiam.

You probably can't go wrong ordering anything here so we ordered by recommendation of the wise Girlfriend. That's of course, provided that the usual robust tze-cha palette is to your liking.

So the thing I do want to talk about is the main event of that meal, the crab bee hoon. I would personally prefer to call it the mutant crab bee hoon since the crab's pincer was the size of a Milo can while its top shell was the size of a man's palm. I think it fed on dead cows.

The dish is much like fish head bee hoon. I liken it to Ka Soh's fish bee hoon at Amoy Street or XO fish head bee hoon somewhere in Buena Vista, except here, they use crab instead of fish. The condensed milk laced soup base is exceptionally rich in taste and it was a perfect combination with the thick bee hoon. I would recommend eating clearing up the crab first while the bee hoon soaks in the broth. Once the crab has been cleared, leisurely wash everything down with the bee hoon soup. But then again, who cares? It's a neighbourhood kopitiam, not a fine-dining restaurant.

So anyone wants to join me on the next trip to Mellben Seafood?
