I’ve walked by so many times, but I’ve never been in to eat. Finally, I got my chance.

I was given one of the “cabin” seats. Initially, it felt quite cool to be in there. But later I realize that it was one of the lousy seats. Waiters don’t really seem to look out for that little you cooped up in one of those corners, plus the air-conditioning there isn’t strong enough to counter the effect of the warm orange spot light right over your head.

The food, however, seemed fine. I ordered a seafood platter but they were out of cold crabs, so I had a replacement. The platter turned out to be really huge. Their calamaris and prawn fritters were good. The prawns seemed quite fresh, thus making it rather crunchy to chew on. But the platter was so huge it seemed more like it was for 3 people. I like their fries too. But as with all fries, you’ve got to eat it while it’s hot. Their carbonara wasn’t that good though. I thought the base was too thick. No doubt all cream bases are like that, however this was a tad too thick, it made it unbearable to finish your plate.

Food and service aside, they’ve got a pool table right in the middle which adds on to the already-funky-looking place. $2 a game. Cheap? I don’t know, but I’ve seen more expensive ones. I thought it was quite a good idea as you get to entertain yourself while waiting for your food.

I’d say this place is worth a try. Just don’t get the cool-looking warm seats..

One thing that stands out at New York New York, is the long~ queues that you see outside the branches at CityLink or Ang Mo Kio Hub. Kind of makes you wonder, "what's so attractive about New York New York?", doesn't it?

Personally, I like New York New York for it's ambience and the cushioned seats, where I can chill and just have comfortable and nice talks with my friends while dining there. :)

However, with regards to their food, it was quite okay in my opinion. I had their pastas on the 2 occasions that I went, and they were okay. Nothing very special or extremely good that I'll recommend. Oh, but do note that the portions are in quite large.. x)

Hmm. The only thing that kind of stops me dining at New York New York, is their service.

Most of the staff are young and seemed new to their jobs. I can understand their stand when things get hectic and busy. However, they do provide less than acceptable service even when it wasn't the peak period!

I was at their branch at AMK Hub, and was frustrated when I wanted to get attention for some service. The 2 waitresses were just standing near the counters talking, and after trying for some time, they were still oblivious to our needs. It was disappointing that they were not vigilant, especially after making mistakes with our orders earlier. =/

Maybe New York New York should build up a more friendly and efficient service in the future..

Oh..you can get free cotton-candy there too! :)
