If you're intending to have a meal at Astons, I would advice you to queue up an hour before the appointed dinner time.

The meals are cheap BUT there's a price to pay for it being so cheap.

And here are the negative points:

    - Long waiting time - Noisy environment. Not an ideal first date venue.

    Positive points:

    - Similiar side dishes as Kenny Rogers - Cheap

Great for students or people on a budget that is if you can stand the waiting time.

One of my rare appearances in the East side of Singapore finally brought me to the long awaited Aston Specialities. This Western food eatery started off as a humble hawker stall in a coffee shop a few doors away. Headed by Mr Aston Soon, 34, an ex-Ponderosa chef, this restaurant has already drawn excellent reviews with good steak at affordable prices all over Singapore.

Having heard so many people raving about this establishment, I was very much excited to dine in this place. I opted for the Prime Ribeye XtraCut (Medium Rare) with Potato Salad and Baked Beans as sides, and boy am I captivated! The cut had a slightly higher marbling fat content than the usual Ribeye I have tried, making it juicer and succulent, and the black grill lines produced a charred smoky touch to the tender beef.

It has been a long time since I had such a wonderful piece of steak. The medium rare that I dictated was also well executed giving the meat an extra sweetness and moistness. However, the sides were very much below par – the potatoes were too undercooked for consumption, and the baked beans were just as unappetising. However $34.80 for two slabs of beef and two drinks is definitely worth it, and I would definitely be coming back for their Celebrities Cut – Wagyu Beef priced at $38.90 the next time round!

       Astons Specialties (Katong) - Restaurants

Been working in katong for months and yesterday was our first visit to Astons. Heard alot of good reviews from other of our colleagues and decided to give our bday girl a treat at this western food restaurant.

We went there earlier to avoid the lunch crowd but still it was 3/4 filled and did not have seats to cater for 7 of us. We were split up and at the instance the table beside us was available they shifted us together (GOOD!) Menu was a simple 1-piece laminated paper with choices like chicken, beef, lamp chop, fish and pork. They also serve spaghetti. Hot and cold side dishes to pamper yourself... You can choose 2 side dishes when ordering meat and 1 side dish for spaghetti.

    - Black pepper chicken potato salad & baked beans ($5.90) Fantastic! I am on braces so i cant chew on tough meat but this chicken is tender and juicy, when served i could smell the aroma of the black pepper sauce. Spicyness was just right, a tinge of pepper tase without overpowering the taste of the sauce.

I love baked beans, and i super love the one at Astons! It did not taste like those out from the can, instead it has a slight becon taste. The potato used in the potato salad was 'crunchy' and the dressing which went with it is a tad sour, made a good appetizer :)

Long awaited continuation... haha! Many people giving positive reviews on this restaurant and it live up to its reputation.

2nd visit to this place, i chose: Fish with herb sauce potato salad / bbq beans (yea, same side dish again... haha!) I am very particular on fish, one tinge of that 'muddy' or 'stinky' or 'fishy' taste (whatever you call that) I will leave the rest untouched. The fish in Astons is simply marvellous! I enjoyed every mouthful of the fresh and smooth dory. The sauce will be perfect if it is thicker, the serving i had was too watery but that was fine, considered i am paying a normal hawker centre price to a restaurant standard :D
