Since it was a long weekend, we decided to take an impromptu day trip to Batam. Upon scanning the shop directory at Harbour Front, we managed to change some rupiah at very good rate. With passport in hand, we checked the various ferry rates over the counters and decided to try Wave Master as it has newer ferries and even offered their in-house VIP lounge should we need a rest.

Our first half hour journey to Batam was quite smooth with sunny weather. But it turned quite bumpy when the skies became dark and suddenly it rained so heavily. Our thoughts went wild when we saw sea water splashing on the windows. For a moment, the ferry stalled and started to sail at a slower speed. When we finally reached Batam terminal, we heaved a sign of relief.

We made our way to Customs and once immigration was cleared, headed straight to the restaurant for our lunch. The place was quite crowded but we managed to get a table. We removed our shoes and sat on the cleaned wooden floor. We ordered their famous fried fish but in two different style cooking. Their set meal consisting of grilled chicken was also delicious with soup and desserts included. Side dishes of fried tempeh ( dried fermented beans ) and tahu ( bean curb) were equally shiok. The staff also recommended their avocado and sour soup fruit juices which were freshly peeled, juiced and with minimal ice so that it will be cold but not diluted.

All in all, we spent about S$50 for 5 of us with each ordering 2 different types of fruit juices to try out.

We are always attracted by new products launched from OSIM but unfortunately not their price. It may be affordable if you spread the payment by 24 or 36 instalments, thus it looks cheaper and within the budget provided there is a need to use that product.

Usqueez Air was one of the new items that we saw at Best Denki last week. Although we are sceptical on the effectiveness, nevertheless, the staff encouraged us to try without any obligations. My elderly aunt volunteered because she has been complaining about sore calves and tired feet.

Basically, it is a leg massager but uses air bags to pressurise the calves and feet. With in-built bottom rollers, it massages the reflex points of the soles similar to foot reflexology. There are 5 programs that you could choose to target specific areas from the calves to feet especially one unique option for ladies wearing high heel shoes.

As the staff explained the usage, my aunt kept nodding her head in agreement as she gave her feedback. The whole demo lasted about half an hour and we thanked the staff for her explanation as we are not prepared to buy yet. We have two issues, mainly hygiene as anybody using it may spread germs or bacteria to one another. Secondly, not so suitable for males who have bigger feet size as it felt tight because we are unable to move our toes at all.

After walking away, my aunt told us that she felt good as her legs are no longer aching and in fact, she felt more energized. We may consider buying it later hopefully when there are freebies thrown in for every purchase.

Their restaurant was featured in local newspapers and magazines. What we noticed is that it serves Indian-Chinese cuisine, somehow like fusion food. We were curious to find out how a typical Indian outlet can cook our Chinese food which can be sweet, sour, salty or bitter.

When we walked into the restaurant, we noticed that it was only half-filled with diners. Happily we thought we do not have to wait but then, the staff told us that they are fully booked. He ushered us out to the only table at the outdoor courtyard which looked more like a parking lot.

As we sat under dimly lighted table, we were quite impressed by their menu as almost all of the items are Chinese oriented dishes. Their prices were printed so small below each dish that we did not notice initially.

Stir Fried Baby Kailan ( $14.00 ) – A bit expensive for vegetables. Unfortunately, the texture was not crunchy and we have a hard time chewing them. Guess the chef may have overcooked this dish.

Cantonese Prawns With Garlic Sauce ( $22.00 ) – This is one of the best considering the prawns were big and succulent. We could taste the sweetness of each prawn. The garlic gravy also goes well with the rice.

Five Spiced Chicken ( $14.00 ) – Stir fried boneless chicken pieces which was marinated with five spices. Surprisingly, the meat was soft with mild spice aroma. Good skill.

Loong Foong Soup or better known as Dragon & Phoenix Soup ( $9.00 ) – A refreshing creamy broth consisting of bits of vegetables, minced prawns, whisked eggs and diced tofu.

Szechuan Fried Rice ( $14.00 ) – Instead of usual fried rice, we ordered this interesting dish which was fried in Szechuan sauce. It was not as spicy as we thought. Generous amount of diced chicken, eggs and vegetables seem to over-ride the rice.

Overall, we were quite satisfied with the food and service. The staff was helpful to introduce their popular dishes and kept reminding us that they also served vegetarian dishes. The only setback is lack of car park lots.

Catchy signboard "Made With Love " caught our attention while we were shopping for gifts.

It is an art & craft supplies outlet where you could find almost anything that you need to make a card, a 3D present, unique scrapbook, photo album, etc. They also have educators who conduct workshops to guide beginners who are interested to create their own DIY present.

As we browsed through the rows of shelves, we were excited to see interesting items like cute buttons/stickers, templates, die-cut 3D paper embellishments, pattern-design punchers, colourful ribbons, little trinkets and paint markers.

We decided to buy some of the unique items to try out ourselves after looking at the finished products on display at one of the shelves. The staff was friendly to give some ideas on creativity techniques. She has also encouraged us to refer to their website for new products or classes being uploaded regularly.

This is one place worth checking out if you intend to give your loved ones a present made specially by you ( with love ) and will be one and only one in this world...

Eastpoint Mall was re-opened in Dec 14 after major upgrading works. Unfortunately, it has attracted a lot of feedback regarding issues like the main passenger lifts are always full with customers and trolleys. Some questioned the logic of locating this supermarket at Level 5 which shoppers waiting at lower levels are not able to use especially those in baby prams and wheel-chaired.

As there is only 1 set of escalators, all shoppers are being made to walk one big round on each floor and that is where we saw this new food outlet.

There is only one family waiting in front of us. When we glanced around, we saw a few empty tables but leftover food was not cleared. It looked like this outlet is understaffed. The family of 4 decided to make their own way to one of the tables after waiting for 10 mins without any single staff attending to the queue. We also walked to another table and signalled the staff to clean it for us while we quickly ordered our food.

We ordered those usual items that Penang is well known but unfortunately, it was the wrong choice.

Penang Char Kway Teow ( $8.80 ) - Thin strips of noodles with countable bean sprouts that is very bland except for medium-sized prawns.

Chicken Rendang ( $10.80 ) - The most expensive and disappointing dish as it looked more like curry chicken with diluted gravy.

Cuttlefish with KangKong ( $7.80 ) - Again, diluted sauce and vegetables are overcooked and soggy.

Bubur Cha Cha ( $4.80 ) - Only 1 spoonful of ingredients. Both the yam and sweet potatoe cubes are tasteless and every spoon stir caused them to break into pieces.

      Steamed Rice ( $2.00 ) - Small bowl of half-cooked rice

We are very disappointed with the dishes and more upset when we saw the bill. 10% service charge for not ushering to table, no staff available to attend to order and walking to counter to pay? Now we truly understand why we should support tipping instead of being slapped with service service when there is clearly none being offered to us.
