One of my favourite hangout. services are usually fast and portions are definitely not stingy.
cafe cartel serves a wide variety of food, from sirloin steak, beef stew to the more localized version like pan fried macaroni with sambal chilli.
The pan fried macaroni is my favorite dish in cafe cartel. the macaroni is served in al dante style, slightly sweet and spicy, fried with tender chicken meat and some mushrooms. and you can top up $2 for a bigger portion if you're very hungry! and trust me, when you top up $2, it makes alot of difference! haha.
my favorite drink id say shld be the mocha frappe. its blended with some chocolate chips you can taste it, sometimes stuck between your teeth haha. so better be careful about that.
but one drink ill definitely not recommend is their pina colada. the real pina colada should have the coconut milk fragrance with pineapple juice. their pina colada doesnt have the coconut milk taste at all, instead, the milky taste is being substituted by vanilla ice cream. their pina colada is like vanilla ice cream in pineapple juce. so yeah, im pretty disappointed with that when i first ordered it. (well there wasnt a second time anyway)
affordable prices, slightly above average services and food.
but recently they just started to charge service charge :(

Nicnicsaid: In cooking, the adjective al dente (pronounced /%u0251%u02D0l%u02C8d%u025Bnte%u026A/) describes pasta and (less commonly) rice that has been cooked so as to be firm but not hard 11 Jun 2008 at 12:27 pm
feizhusaid: so was the macaroni u had firm but not hard? 11 Jun 2008 at 2:12 pm

feizhusaid: I see. Its the first time I'm seeing people use al dente on Cafe Cartel's macaroni so its a little amusing. :P 12 Jun 2008 at 10:10 am
Hmm i think my comments about Astons are pretty much similar with Bobo.
Ive heard of much ravings about Astons, and have always seen the long queue whenever i drove past. So one day after work, i decided to bring my family there for dinner.
Surprisingly, I dont have to wait long for my turn (it was abt 630pm). Just about 4 person in front of us, and we were served in about 5-10mins?
But the waiting time to order food is the torturing part. Yep i think they are pretty much short of staff and all the servers just seem so busy walking around and occupied with things they 'cant see' me signalling to them.
i finally got hold of a waitress to take my order when she was serving food to the table beside ours.
Everything was fine, rather filling portion of food. But I really do not see whats so nice about their food. I mean, its okay, but its nothing really fantastic.
For 4 person, we ordered 5 main dishes and the total bill came up to about $100. I guess our bill is slightly more expensive coz we ordered the more expensive stuff like wagyu beef n such, but yeah i guess its pretty cheap when compared to outside.
Conclusion: Average food, room for improvement for service and good prices.
Ive always been a fan of pasta and Id say the pasta served at pasta mania is pretty alright for its price.
but just to share an experience about the service at pasta mania tampines mall.
i love pasta with lots and lots of parmesan cheese. so when my pasta was served, and the bottle of cheese on my table was empty, i asked one of the waitress for a new bottle. she passed me one from the next table with a teeny weeny bit of cheese left inside and i told her that its not enough and id really like her to just refill mine.
she gave me a sharp glare, without saying anything and went ahead to the counter to get me another bottle of cheese. and when she passed me the cheese and i thanked her, she just ignore me and walked away.
hello? is it very difficult to just walk a few steps to get me a bottle of cheese? id have done it myself if i knew where they kept their cheese.
I only tried their bubble tea and frankly its not bad! I ordered the chocolate milk tea, even though my friend said it taste like Milo, but i dont think so. It has the tea scent unlike other bubble tea stall. Furthermore, Its pretty cheap and yes the service is quick.
But one point I dislike, which is, it is indeed fully packed when i went there and it took us maybe about 10mins before we were given a table by the waitress. before that, we were invisible. :(
