Between GV @ PS versus Cathay @ Handy Road, I think the latter is clearly my favourite due to the following factors:

Quiet and less jostling with crowds
I m not sure about you but its definitely more peaceful watching a movie at Cathay as compared to GV. I think the crowd at GV is definitely 3 times more than Cathay given any day and who needs to get through noisy school kids bawling babies so that you can get to your ticket booth safely?

    Niche movie selection
Cathay has Picturehouse which showcases all the art farty movie that you cant really find at the rest of the movie theaters. One interest point is you can't really bring in food and drinks when you are watching a movie at Picturehouse. Guess the folks at Cathay dun want you to mix art and food together? Or probably it could be due to the nice cushy seats they have at Picturehouse which they do not want you to dirty.....

    It's clean!
I like the fact that the whole building is in white and white flooring which make the whole place looking pristine and elegant... And I have no fear when I have a no 1 or no 2 coming along because the toilets are pretty clean ( which is also due to the smaller crowd there). On the other hand, GV@ PS looks kind of dark from the entrance to the cinema halls. I m not sure if this is a deliberate effort by the GV folks so that patrons will get use to the amount of light in the theatre?

Anyway, given any other day, I will choose Cathay@ Handy over its rival. Of course, one minor shortcoming ( for those who are using MRT) is that you have to walk a little distance to reach Cathay but in my opinion, its worth it!

Am not a fan of sweet stuff but there was this weekend nite when I had this big big craving for Tiramisu and since I m lived in AMK, the nearest/easiest alternative was this cake shop which was within walking distance from my home.

I knew that this cake shop is pretty famous and was featured in this HDB Tai Tai shop as well as Straits Times... I bought a pc of the tiramisu which was pretty reasonably priced (less than $3 I think). The rum is pretty heavy in my opinion and it sorta overpowered the coffee and the cream which should also be the main casts for a good tiramisu. Other than that, I think for the price its a pretty decent cake and the great service by the cashier auntie should more than make up for it!

My Hamster, Ah Fat, died many years ago in 2002. When he was alive, he had a lot of problems with his health. First was when he developed a rash throughout his body and you could see lumps on his underbelly side. I couldn't bear seeing him suffer but didn't know what to do....

I went through yellow pages and looked for vets and called some. And I decided on this clinic....why I don't remember, but I do know I stay very far away from this clinic and someone drove me there.

When I arrived, I saw a few people waiting. None had hamsters, all had dogs.

As a side note, this clinic is situated near ang moh chus and most likely frequented by the residents
nearby. I am an average HDB dweller, so felt abit out of place.

When it was my turn, the vet (a young female vet) looked rather clueless and didn't know what to do with a hamster. I guess she doesn't have much experience with hamsters as few people ever take them to see vets?

She advised me why not remove all their wood shreds as bedding and instead fill with shredded tissue, cos' they maybe causing allergic reactions due to chemical contents in the wood shreds.

Basically that was all. I paid, not cheap, and went home and followed the instructions. Ah Fat did get better eventually.

Overall, the female vet was nice and she tried her best. The decor of the clinic was abit dated (dunno how is it now).

Very very few clinics can handle small animals at all. Not even Mt Pleasant can. For my rabbit I can only bring her here and to the one in Choa chu kang..

Whenever I finished watching movie around this area, my next destination will be to visit this "Or Luak" stall for a shiok cholesterol bursting supper.

I like the fact that the portion of the oysters are very generous and the oysters are the plump and fresh type ( not the malnourished ones). I think there are more than 7-8 oysters if you ordered the minimum portion. For people out there who prefer their Or Luak crispy and eggy, pls give this stall a try. You can't really taste the gluey flour in this glutton bay's version....

The chili is another of their secret weapon whereby lime is added to the chili sauce to give a sour flavour which offset the oily taste of the Or Luak in your mouth. I always take 2 portion of chili for my Or Luak!....

But I wouldn't dare to try and visit this place during day time, can't imagine eating Or Luak under the scorching sun.

Hi there, I just visit Glutton Square recently and apparently this stall has been taken over by another. Tried the Ou Luak and it wasn't as good - looks like I need to head back to Newton for it!
