SAFRAMF is a great place for a weekend with the family. Start out with an energetic game of bowling on the second floor or gym (if you are an E1 member). That should work up an appetite which you can then satiate at Yakun on the lobby level. Something light like their fabulous egg and toast sets would suffice.

While waiting to digest, pop over to the billiards room and have a game or too; it's really cheap (see other review). Or browse the new eMart on the second floor which has some nostalgic army gear and really cool casual sports accessories.

End your day with a refreshing dip in the pool. Aim to go later in the afternoon when all the classes are over and when it's not too hot. Do your laps or relax by the side where the jacuzzi jets are (limited). If the jets are occupied, then chill out at the pool bar seats (bar is not operational) which are also in the shade.

End your day of relaxation at the hawker centre opposite SAFRAMF which serves pretty good grub and affordable prices.

Prawn Toast   Olive Rice   Basil Beef Rice   Black Pepper Softshell Crab   Thai Seafood Laksa with Jade Green Gravy
The Family decided to go Thai this Sunday, so we dropped by Thai Express at PS. Surprisingly, considering the queues at the other outlets, Thai Express was quite quiet (the crowds came after we were seated).

We were welcomed and seated by the manager/supervisor(?) Mr Matt Nor who is a delightfully friendly person. He took the time to see that we were seated comfortably and offered us water (3 chilled, one hot, as we like it). I enjoyed being addressed by my name, which gives the whole experience a certain homeliness and familiarity. Of course we are very familiar with Thai Express, having dined at the chain for many years but the whole atmosphere of sanook is not always as evident as it was at this outlet. Thanks Matt!

For starters (but which only arrived after we had eaten our mains?!?)

Prawn Toast ($6.90). Nice and crispy, very flavourful, just the way mum used to make it. Nice chilli dipping sauce.

Olive Rice with Chicken ($9.90). Slight, not over-powering taste of olives which gave it a good aromatic sensation.

Basil Beef Rice ($10.90). The strips of beef was really nice and tender with a hint of basil. Very flavourful.

Black Pepper Softshell Crab Rice ($10.90). Mum likes softshell crab, so she enjoyed this dish very much. The black pepper sauce was a little salty though.

I swear by my fave Thai Seafood Laksa in Jade Green Gravy ($9.90) which has nice big pieces of tender fresh fish, cuttlefish and prawns, together with eggplant and potatoes. Also provides some soup for the rest of the family who were having rice dishes.

We ended off the meal with a serve of Steamed Tapioca with Coconut Cream ($5.90) which hit the spot and ended the meal on a high note.

Will definitely be back to this outlet!

Lobster Bisque Soup with Garlic Bread   Lobster and Steak
We visited the outlet for dinner as we were sending off one of our colleagues. Our delightful experience started off with the pleasant staff who took my phone reservation. Upon arriving, we were directed to a nice booth, with a view of the street outside.

Our server Murna was very welcoming and nice to chat with. She was very helpful with our menu choices as the selection can be mind-boggling.

Finally, we settled on the Lobster and Steak combo ($18.90) which featured a large portion of beef steak and a generous half lobster (not the little ones you get elsewhere). We then made it a set (add $3.50) which comes with soup, coffee/tea and a dessert. As we were in a celebratory mood, we upgraded our soup to lobster bisque for an additional $2 each.

The result was wonderful! The thick creamy bisque was flavourful (only comment was that the lobster pieces were too small to be tasted). The portion of beef and lobster were filling and overall presentation just enough to fill us without overstuffing ourselves.

Very good experience indeed, good food, good service, good company. We'll definitely be back soon!

We visit this outlet every weekend for our family dinner and we always order the sirloin cos it's good value. It's tender and succulent and done just right. The baked potato is also a draw and tastes really good with the salted butter melting into it.

Sirloin steaks are served with brown mushroom sauce but you can always ask the friendly staff for an additional serve of black pepper sauce.

On previous visits, we've seen diners bringing in their own drinks and wondered if that's allowed but decided it's too much of a hassle to bring. $1.50 for a softdrink isn't too bad.

Astons doesn't serve desserts, so people don't linger and hold up the perpetual queue to get in. Which is good.

Entrance to Manpuku   Cherry Blossoms indoors!   Omuraisu with Tofu Hamburger $6.50
Manpuku Japanese Gourmet Town features 10 counters offering over 200 menu items such as ramen, udon, curry and pancakes from different parts of Japan.

We enjoyed an omuraisu (omelette rice) with tofu hamburger and an omuraisu with mixed sauces for just $6.50 each which was quick, tasty and reasonably priced.

There is a large dining hall, so there is enough seating for a large crowd. We found a quiet corner with a view (large windows overlooking Tampines MRT) which was just opposite the drinks and dessert stall. The area was decorated with fake sakura flowers, which made it seem a little bit more authentic.
