Saw a listing in the Tourism Malaysia guide for tropical fruit farm, so we thought that we'd go take a look. As there were no directions listed in the guide, I gave them a call to ask for directions. Believe it or not, there are no specific directions from Malacca to Sungei Udang, and all instructions were to Masjid Tanah instead.

Upon arrival and payment of admission, we proceeded to drive into the plantation. Filled with anticipation of seeing lots of tropical fruit growing on trees, we were instead disappointment by fields upon fields of barren land. Not only were there no fruits on the tree, there weren't even many trees to begin with! Upon checking with the gate staff who sold us the admission tickets, she shrugged and claimed that there should be some fruit on the trees and vaguely pointed into the distance.

Sorely disappointed with being misled by the staff and wasting the admission to drive around a barren desert. I suppose at some time or other in its heyday, it really was a fun place to visit. However, we found more fresh fruit at the roadside stalls on the forty minute drive there.

All six of our colleagues hang out at Safra Yishun every Tueday. The swimming pool is affordable at about $2-3 for users and its set in a very relaxing resort feel environment. Besides the lap pool and wading pool, there is a small slide and jacuzzis in one corner. Not many loungers are around for suntanning, so must come early to chope.

For a quick snack after swimming there is a poolside cafe, after which we visit the games arcade upstairs or for a game of billiards.

The gym is for registered EnergyOne members only, but the tennis courts are open for booking. Covered parking is available, but for public transport users, there is a feeder bus from Yishun bus/MRT interchange (we prefer to walk 10mins across the reservoir).

All in, it's a good place to spend an entire day relaxing as so many activities are available in one place, and the best time is, it's very affordable.

        103. Earle Swensen’s

Earle Swensons at Vivo is a good place to go for a nice view of the waterfront (if you are lucky to get a window seat). Nice setting for dinner, suitably dim so that the lights from Sentosa are clearly seen.

Staff - tend to be young and inexperienced but rather eager to serve. We had to tell off a staff who was vigorously sweeping the floor, while we ate. She scurried off, but left her broom leaning against another table. In the middle of the dining hall was a pail of water and washcloth used for general cleaning. Sigh...

Menu - some items same as the main Swensons restaurants. What makes it attractive is the salad bar, which has quite a good spread. For slightly more than the other outlets, you can order most mains which come with complimentary salad bar. My family loves it because we like our greens.

Always thought that Earles was the more expensive cousin to Swensons, but it's actually quite value for money!

I've been visiting Goodwill for many years now and I've come to know Boss Choon since my JBP days. He is a very pleasant and affable figure and is well-liked by his customers. Yes, he does take the trouble to remember your pets and even enquires about that as if they were your children (well, I guess they are).

His stock of birds is also legal, legitimate and in very good health. No worries about sick birds, he would never sell them. If your bird is sick, take it back to Goodwill. If you are looking for a particular breed which you have not seen elsewhere, do look up Choon who will probably provide you with the best info you could get.

I would recommend you stock your pets and supplies from Goodwill and I'm really glad to see that others have taken the initiative to laud this business!

Definitely a great place for water activities. More than the usual swimming pools which can be boring with just lap pools and wading pools, this complex includes three slides, a lazy river and wave pool.

Slides - there are three, and you will need to rent a tube to use the two taller slides. Very thrilling as you cannot control your speed of descent and may wind up spinning upside down in the tube!

Lazy River - perfect for a lazy time floating around the complex. Best to use the tube cos the floor is quite uneven at certain parts. Look out for the mist and shower areas as you float round and round.

Wave Pool - waves are generated at regular intervals which is really fun and feels like swimming in the sea. What makes this wave pool different from others are the two water jets that rain on swimmers as they are bobbing around.

I brought my parents (70s) and even they had a great time in the Lazy River and Wave Pool. It's very affordable ($1.50) compared to other water-based theme parks around. Parking is convenient and when the hunger pangs hit, the KFC outlet is conveniently located in the same building!
