The High Tea Buffet is excellent! We've always wondered at the queues which form in front of the outlet in the afternoons, so we decided to try it out for ourselves.

Most of the dishes on the buffet are available self-serve from the buffet table, which is a great idea while you are waiting for your cooked-to-order dishes to be served.

Self service: assorted appetizers, assorted dimsum items, soup of the day, dessert of the day.

Order items: assorted guotie 锅贴, shuijiao 水饺, the famous juicy meat buns 小笼汤包, small portions of zhajiang mian 炸酱面 and other noodles.

Very affordable at $10.20 (A) $7.50 (C) on weekdays and $15.80 (A) $10.80 (C) on weekends. Prices are exclusive of the usual $1.30pp for tea, pickles and towel.

Reservations (tel: 6738-7207) for parties of six persons and above, smaller parties have to queue at the door.

High tea is available from 3pm to 5pm daily, last order is at 4.45pm

      87. True Spa

True Spa (http://www.truespa.com.sg) has been taken over by Subtle Senses (http://www.subtlesenses.com). Not even the courtesy of informing members, or clients who have signed up packages with them. With all the hoo-ha about spas closing and leaving people in the lurch, they should have managed this better. The only notice is on True Spa's website (see above).

I went down to see them for myself and was assured that SS will honour all TS packages. I am not very convinced, so I am trying to finish my package as soon as possible.

According to my therapist, many TS staff have indicated that they are leaving because they are not happy (unverified). Whatever it is, it is now actually harder to book an appointment, because according to the receptionist, the therapists will only give them short notice when they are working. True enough, I have been unable to make my next appointment. Sigh.

Our favourite place for cheap home-cooked meals, Swis Ling never fails to please us. Aside from the problem of looking for car-parking (although it is accessible by NEL and EWL), this coffeeshop is open to weather as well.

You must try the famous Cream Pork Ribs (奶油排骨) which are simply delicious. There is also a selection of seafood dishes and home-cooked soups, all at affordable prices. A four-course meal for four persons costs about $50 which is great!

Plenty of tables available in the outdoor seating area, ranging from tables of four to ten. Call ahead if you need a large table. Smoking area is also available.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Centrepoint, but visible from Orchard Road, this outlet is very art decor-themed. Interesting furniture and fittings, makes it feel very warm and cosy. The staff here are also especially helpful and friendly and pleased to help with recommendations.

If you're shopping around Centrepoint, do make it a point to drop by for a cup of tea or coffee (check out the high tea set) to rest your aching feet. Spend some time here - plenty of seats - and read a magazine from the rack, before heading out into the heat again.

      I recommend it!

        Two grouses about this outlet.

        1. Part of it is under renovation, so expect some noise even during dinner time, and some unpleasant chemical odours which wafted out while we were there.

Waitress told us hot drinks such as Chinese tea not available due to renovation. Served iced water from a ice cooler (disgusting!).

        2. Was overcharged on crab by quite a lot. Asked waitress the weight of the crab, told it was about one kilogram. Crab which appeared on the table was about half that size. Queried the waitress but she insisted it was one kilo even when confronted by the crab shell still sitting on the table. If you haven't seen a one kilo crab before, you're likely to face the same situation.
